2 Claims. (Cl. 248-128) This invention relates to a bottle holder and more particularly to a portable holder capable of holding a single bottle containing liquid in an inclined pouring position.
A principal object of the present invention is to provide a holder for a bottle in which the bottle is supported in a pouring position in a secure and balanced condition when the holder is either at rest upon a supporting surface or is being transported.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a holder for a bottle wherein the bottle may be readily inserted and removed.
A further object of the invention is to provide a holder for a bottle which may be readily set down upon a supporting surface.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a holder of this kind with a handle conveniently located for pouring the contents of the bottle through its neck.
Yet another object is to provide a holder for a bottle which is capable of receiving and supporting bottles of various sizes and shapes.
A specific object of the invention is to provide a bottle holder with a rigid base for resting upon a supporting surface and with a flexible springy frame for gripping the ends of a bottle and affording a handle for manipulating the holder.
It is further proposed to produce a holder for a bottle which is simple and durable in construction, light in weight, sanitary, and which can be manufactured of plastic, metal, or any other suitable material and sold at a reasonable cost.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the Various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a bottle holder em bodying one form of the invention, showing a bottle in supported position in dotted lines.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the holder, without the bottle.
Fig. 3 is an end view of the holder looking in the direction of the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the plane of the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on the plane of the line 55 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the holder is shown as comprising a flat base 20, substantially triangular in plan, with a narrow rounded front end 21 and a wider rounded rear end 22. The base is formed of wood or other suitable material and supports a springy frame including a pair of flexible springy rods 23, 23 of light weight wood, such as bamboo, balza or the like, circular in cross-section. The rods are bent to the shape shown Patented Jan. 14, 1958 2 in the drawings, forming flattened loops, with the rear ends 24, 24 of the rods inserted into socketed openings 25, 25 formed in theupper surface of the base at its rearward widest portion. The rear ends are secured in the sockets by fastening members such as nails 26 but may be glued or both. The front ends 27, 27 of the rods are inserted into a pair of closely spaced socketed openings 28, 28, formed in the upper surface of the base at the narrow front end thereof along its longitudinal center line and are secured in position by glue, nails, or both.
Another rod 29 of flexible springy material, similar to the material of rods 23, 23, is curved slightly and one end is inserted into a socketed opening 30 formed in the upper surface of the base 1 at its rear end, along its longitudinal center line, and is secured therein by a nail 30', glue, or both. The free end 31 of the rod 29 is curved and is seated alongv the juxtaposed portions of the rods 23, 23 and such curved end and juxtaposed portions are fastened together by a strip 32 of similar material as the rods, wound therearound in coiled formation with its ends threaded inwardly between the coils and rods and an chored therein. This bound portion of the frame together with the coiled fastening member 32 forms a handle portion 33 which may be readily gripped by the hand of the user of the holder.
This arrangement of the rods 23, 23 and 29 produces a frame with an open side and wherein the looped rods 23, 23 are flattened at the top at a point approximately midway the ends of the base and are closely spaced at the front, extending forwardly of the front end of the base, and are widely spaced at the rear extending inwardly of the rear end of the base as seen in Fig. 3. The rod 29 bulges rearwardly of the rear end of the base, with a substantially straight lower end portion 34.
A bottle 35 such as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1 may be readily mounted in the holder by inserting its neck and shoulders through the side opening of the frame, and then through the space between the front ends 27, 27 of the rods 23, 23, the bottle being moved longitudinally therethrough until its bottom end can be swung laterally and inwardly to seat on the upper surface of the base and against the lower portion 34 of the rear center rod 29, after which the neck and shoulder of the bottle are moved downwardly until the shoulder rests against the spaced front ends 27, 27. The resiliency of the material of the rods permits the rods to be sprung apart at the front and to automatically close in on and grip the protruding neck of the bottle when the spreading-apart pressure is released. The bottle is thus supported in an in clined position in the frame with its neck portion slightly higher than the bottom of the bottle, leaving a space between the bottle and the handle portion 33 of the frame so that the hand of the user can grip the handle portion. When the holder is lifted by the handle portion, a slightly downward tilt of the front end of the holder will permit the contents of the bottle to be poured out.
The bottle may be readily removed by sliding the neck and shoulder of the bottle upwardly between the front ends 27, 27 of the rods 23, 23 whereby the shoulder forces such front ends further apart permitting the bottom end of the bottle to slide forwardly on the base until it is clear of the rear ends 27, 27 of the rods 23, 23. Then, by swinging the bottle laterally through the side opening of the frame, the bottle may be completely withdrawn from the holder.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and that various changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
