WITNESSES INVENTOR N. PETERS, PholwLkMgnpher. Wuhinglon. mV 0.
NITED STATES- EDMUND J. BRENT, OF MUSOATINE, IOWVA.
WINDOW-SCREEN FRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 281,964, dated July 24, 1883.
Application filed February 15, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDMUND J. BRENT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Muscatine, in the county of Muscatine and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vindow- Screen Frames; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in corner pieces or brackets for door and window screen frames; and the objects are to provide corner-pieces for the purposes mentioned which may be readily applied to the screenframe, which will hold the frame securely together; which can be applied to frames for any sized doors or windows, and which can be packed with the framesticks in a very small space for transportation.
In the manufacture of frames for door and window screens it is essential that the frames be light, and that the cornerpieces shall be light and susceptible of ready attachment and detachment. The frame-sticks are generally made long and high enough to fit any ordinary window or door, and are packed with the corner-pieces for shipment, the framesticks being cut off by the users to suit the window where set in for use.
My invention therefore consists in a metallic corner T-shaped piece for door and window screen frames formed of a single piece, having a vertical open sleeve-piece and a horizontal open sleeve-piece adapted to receive and retain, respectively, a side bar and either a top or a bottom bar for a corner-connection.-
My invention further consists in a metallic corner T-shapcd piece formed of a single piece, having avertical open sleeve-piece and a horizontal open sleeve-piece, in combination with frame-sticks adapted to fit in the open sleeves of the corner-pieces, as hereinafter more fully set forth.
My invention further consists in metallic corner-pieces of a special construction, in combination with side, top, and bottom sticks or pieces, united in such a manner that both sides of the frame shall be even or flush for the attachment of the screen-cloth or netting to either side.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a corner-piece. Fig. 2 is a side view, showing the manner of putting the parts together. Fig. 3 is a side view of the frame, showing the parts united. Fig. 4. is a View showing the frame in a knockeddown condition and packed for shipment and Fig. 5 is a perspective view, showing modifications of the cornerpiece.
The letter A represents the metallic cornerpiece, formed with the vertical open sleeve 13 and the horizontal open sleeve O,'the general configuration being T-shaped, substantially as shown. The open sleeve in each arm of the corner-piece is preferably formed dovetailed, with flanges a a, intended to fit a similar configuration of the frame-pieces to which it is applied. It is readily seen that the object of this formation of the parts is that they may be brought in connection and secured together, and so held without liability to displacement by the usages to which the frame may be ordinarily subjected. This ob ject is effected when the parts are formed in any shape by which the sleeve and rails are held together; hence the sleeves of the corner pieces may be made square or circular, with flanges grasping the parts of the rails adapted to fit in them. The upper arm of the vertical sleeve and the horizontal arm have screwholes b, for the purpose of admitting woodscrews to be inserted, and by means of which the corner-piece is held in place and the frame firmly and durably held together.
The letters I) D represent the top and bottom and the side pieces or rails of the frame. The side pieces of the frame are formed with the usual groove on their outer faces to fit against the casing of the window, and all the pieces 011 their inner portions are formed to fit snugly in the open sleeve of the cornerpieces. For convenience of lifting the frame a finger-catch is fastened to the lower frame Stick.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. As an improved-article of manufacture, a metallic corner-piece made T-shaped and formed with vertical and horizontal passages, for the purpose set forth.
2. The metallic corner-piece formed with a 2 esinom horizontal arm or sleeve intermcdiately an open sleeves of the corner pieces, snbstan 1o ranged between the ends of the side piece for tially as described. the reception of the side an d the top or bottom In testimony whereof I affix my signature in sgielzs pf evein thlieknless thtereivithfito seiurle presence of two witnesses. 5 ns lSlC es ant enc s, sn s an 12 y as eseri ec w 3.
