The mounting structure 14 preferably consists of a frame or sleeve 15 fabricated of metal and adapted to encompass the shell 7 of the room cooling unit. The frame or sleeve 15 preferably consists of a hollow, tubular structure having a substantially rectangular opening 16 therethrough deiined by a top wall 17, bottom wall 1S and end walls 19 and Ztl whereby the sleeve is slidable over the room cooler shell 7 and the walls of said sleeve engage or are slightly spaced from said shell 7. The frame or sleeve 15 is of a width less than the minimum width of the window opening in which the room cooler is to be mounted and is of a height that will tit between the sill 4 and the lower sash 6 of the window. i
Channel members 21 and 22 are mounted on the exterior of the top and bottom walls 17 and 18 respectively to cooperate with said walls in forming rectangular trackway housings having trackway openings 23 and 24 substantially coextensive with the width of the frame or sleeve 15. The channel members 21 and 22 are preferably arranged adjacent one edge of the respective walls, which preferably is the edge that will be toward the interior of the room having the window in which the structure is to be mounted whereby the major portion of the sleeve 15 extends exteriorly relative to the window frame. In the illustrated structure, each of the channel members 21 and 22 consists of a bar member 25 terminating at its side edges in spaced parallel flanges 26 and 27 and the free ends of each of the anges are suitably secured to the respective walls 17 and 18 as by welding. The end walls 19 and 2i) are provided with spaced, parallel flanges 28 and 29 extending laterally thereof and substantially coplanar with the flanges 26 and 27 respectively, said flanges 28 and 29 being suitably secured to the walls 19 and 20 as by welding. Obviously the frame or sleeve 15 together with the channels 21 and 22 and flanges 2S `and 29 may be fabricated as desired to form a strong, rigid structure with parallel trackway openings arranged as described.
End extension panel ` assemblies 30 and 31 are slidably engaged with the sleeve and trackway housing structure and movable endwise relative thereto for engaging the side faces of the window frame to retain the structure in the window opening. Each of the end panels consists of upper and lower guide members 32 and 33 respectively, preferably consisting of channel members of suitable size to slide in the trackway openings 23 and 24, with the bar portion 34 of said channel members engaging the inner surfaces of the bar portions 25 of the channel members 21 and 22 and the outer surfaces of the leg portions 35 and 36 of said channel guide members 32 and 33 engaging the inner surfaces of the anges 26 and 27 of said channel members 21 and 22.
The free ends 37 of the legs 32 and 33 preferably engage the outer surface of the walls 17 and 18 that form the inner walls of the trackway openings 23 and 24, whereby the sliding engagement of the guide members 32 and 33 with the walls of the trackway openings 23 and 24 is such that the end panels may be moved endwise relative to the frame or sleeve and trackway housings with substantially no binding and with little lateral play. The outer ends of the guide members 32 and 33 are suitably secured as by welding to vertical channel-shaped members 38, the legs of which are directed toward the sleeve and trackway housings. A sponge rubber or other suitable gasket 39 is preferably suitably secured to the outer surface of the bar il which connects the legs of the vertical channel members 38 to form a resilient seal between the end panels 3i) and 31 and the side faces 5 of the window frame. The width of the channels 38 is preferably the same as the width of the guide members 32 and 33 whereby the end panels may be moved toward the frame or sleeve 15 and trackway housing assembly until the channels 38 enter between the anges 28 and 29 to present a minimum width for the entire structure.
Suitable extensible members 41 are arranged in the end panels Btl and 31 in such a manner as to closed variable sized openings defined by the flanges 28 and 29, end panel guide members 32 and 33 and vertical channel members 38. In the illustrated structure each of the extensible members comprises a plurality of vertical panels 42 hingedly connected as at 43 with one of the panels being suitably lsecured to the bar portion 40 of the vertical channels 38 of the end panels and another panel 42 at the other end of the extensible member suitably secured to the end walls 19 and 20 of the frame or sleeve 15 between the anges 28 and 29. The extensible members preferably consist of two sheets 44 and 45 of waterproof fabric, synthetic resin or other flexible materials sewed or otherwise suitably secured together at the hinge connections 43 to form pockets 46 between the hinge connections. Strips 47 of metal or other suitable, relatively rigid material are arranged in the pockets 46 to stiflen the respective panels 42 of the extensible members. The upper and lower edges of the extensible members 41 are preferably provided with rubber or other resilient strips 48 to resiliently and sealingly engage the bars 34 of the guide members 32 and 33.
ln the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 3, 5, 6 and 7 as the end panels 31D and 31 are moved outwardly from the frame or shell member 15, the respective panels 42 are flattened against the inner surface of the legs 36 of the guide members 32 and 33 to effect a sealing engagement therewith and then sponge rubber or the like 49 is inserted in the channel guide members 32 and 33 to retain the panels 42 in weathertight sealing engagement with said legs 36. Other panels 42 or the extensible members 4-1, which are in excess of the spacing between the sleeve 15 and vertical channels 3d, remain folded flat adiacent the sleeve 15 as illustrated in Fig. 5. lf desired the panels l2 may be arranged in angular relation and the sponge rubber blocks 49 have corresponding angular surfaces to sealingly engage said panels 42 and hold same in selected position.
Weep holes Sil or the like may be arranged at the bottom of the legs 36 in the guide members 33 whereby rain or moisture collecting in the guide members exteriorly of the extensible members 41 can drain to the outside of the window. The end panel members are movable relative to the 'frame or sleeve 15 and trackway housing assembly to provide extensions that can be positively engaged with the side faces 5 of the 'window frame with suicient pressure to retain the entire structure in the window frame without auxiliary fastening devices. While the end panels may be moved individually by individual operating devices it is preferable that both end panels 3i) and 31 be moved outwardly simultaneously.
ln the illustrated structure a gear box 51 is removably secured and centrally located in the channel 21 or upper trackway housing. End Walls 52 of the gear housing 51 are provided with aligned bearings to rotatably mount cylindrical end portions 54 of elongated screw members 55 which extend from the gear housing toward the end walls of the frame or sleeve 15. One screw member has a right-hand thread and the other a left-hand thread and they are threaded into internally threaded end members 56 suitably fixed to the free ends 37 of the guide members 32. A worm or other suitable gear 57 is arranged in the gear housing 51 and has a bore 58 into which extends the cylindrical end portions Si@ of the elongated screw members 5S, said worm gear being secured to the end portions 54- of the screw members by suitable fastening devices such as setscrews 59 whereby rotation of the worm gear rotates the screw members. lt is preferable that the worm gear have hubs oil which engage the inner surfaces of the end walls 52 of the gear housing or that collars or the like be utilized to prevent endwise movement of the gear and screw members whereby rotation of fthe .worm tgear 57 screws :the screw members 55 into or out of internally threaded end members 56 ltoefectmovementof fthe fend :panels .30 .and 31 relativeto the frame or :sleeve 15. This is .a safety vfeature `which zprevents the operation of the structure to disengage the end .panels from the sidefaces S'of ythe-window frame while the .roomcoolerisrnounted therein. While the panel operating mechanism'isshown only in the lupper trackway housing, it .can be arranged in the lower trackway housing Lor in both 'housings and operate in the same manner,

Then .the sleeve .15 and .end panel .assembly is held in proper .aligned .position below the .lower sash and the crank 66-turned further .to move the end panels 30 and 31 outwardly with substantial-'pressure which compresses both of fthe vresilient members 39 in rtight engagement with the side faces 5 of the window frame and thereby tightly -secures ftheentire assembly vin the window frame whereby? the fsleeve and .panel assembly is in substantially rigid'relation with said window frame. The .crank 66 is then removed and the worm and Worm gear retain the screw members 55 against rotation and thereby positively retain the pressure of the end panels 30 and 31 against the -Vwindow frame and prevent any dislodgmeut thereof. While the worm and Worm gear and screw 1members are preferred other suitable panel moving apparatus with conventional locks therefor could be utilized to retain the pressure ofthe end panels against the window frame.
A rubber or other suitable strip 70 is arranged along the ytop of the channel 21 and the end panels for the full width of the window openings. Then a Z-shaped, preferably metal, strip 7-1 is arranged on the sealing strip 60 with 'a depending ange 72extending downwardly on the outside ofthe channel 21 and upper members of the end panels and an upwardly extending ange 73 approximately at the inner side of the channel 21. The strip 71 is preferably of two pieces with overlapped ends for adjusting the length of same to the width of the window opening and thereby eliminate any necessity of cutting metal members yin the installation of the window mounting. A sealing strip 74 of rubber or other suitable materialis placed on the Z bar '71 and then the lower sash 6 lowered :into engagement with said sealing strip 74. lf desired a single extruded vor otherwise formed strip may be used inplace of the strips 70, 71 and '74 provided the shape is such that ilanges are arranged thereon to sealingly overlap portions of the window sash and engage the trackway housing or-sleeve. This arrangement provides the weather seal around the entire unit to prevent movement of air, moisture or the like from entering the room a-round the'periphery of the channels 21 and 22 and end vpanels "30' and 3-1 or through the end panels. The window mounting-structure is then ready to receive the room cooler Aassembly 1.
.The room cooler assembly -1 is then lifted and the rear .portion thereof inserted into the opening 16 and pushed youtwardly therethrough to adjust the position ofrthe front wall 12 yof the room cooler relative Vto the window frame for the desired extension of the room cooler inwardly from the window frame. Then the space between the 'inner edge of the walls of the sleeve 15 and the shell 7 of the room cooler are closed by suitable gaskets :orother seal means to provide a weather seal therebetween which will cooperate with the yengagement of `:the :.ilexible member 68 with'the 'shell '7 at theouter endcof said sleeve. In the illustrated structure kstrips 7S of substantially wedge-shaped cross section are forced in between the Walls of .the sleeve land the `shell 7 at the top, sidesand `bottom thereof. Such Va strip can be vforced inwardly with sufficient pressure'to lhold the roomcooler in tbe-sleeve .15, however, it is preferable to adjust the screw :jacks or clamping members 67 to level the room coolertat the :bottom and then. adjust the clamp members 67 `aatithe top to further secure the room cooler in the sleeve 15 and prevent relative movement therebetween. lf desired, braces '76 may be arranged between the outer portion of the silland the room cooler 'shell 7 to provide additional `support for the portion ofthe room cooler extending outwardly from the sleeve 15, particularly when the front wall 12 of the room cooler is substantially flush with:the window frame. The bracemember '76 may be of #any suitable struct-ure such as is commonly used on conventional room cooler structures.
=When it is desired to change the amount of the room cooler extending into the room the jacks or clamps 67 are loosened and the seal member 75 removed. Then the room cooler can be slid in the sleeve 1S to position same as desired. When it is desired to change theentire structure from one window to another the room cooler must be removed fromthe sleeve l5, the lower sash raised and the crankrdo used'to vretract the end panels to disengagesame from the sides of the window frame. Then the .entire .assembly can be .quickly removed from 'the `window frame and adjusted intoanother rwindow opening.
In the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. l1 to 13 inclusive, guide ribs 77 are arranged centrally of and extend vertically relative to the bar members 34 of the guide channels 32 and 33 and slots 73 are arranged in the upper and lower edges of the panel members 42 of the extensible members 41. ri.`he slots 73 and guide ribs 77 cooperate in maintaining the panels 42 whereby they extend across the guide members 32 and 33 as illustrated in Fig. l1 when the end panels are extended from the sleeve. |The slots and guide ribs also cooperate to prevent lateral movement of the extensible members from wind and the like.
In the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 14 and l5, the frame or sleeve, trackway housings and end panels and operating mechanism for moving the end panels relative to the frame or sleeve l5 are substantially the same construction as illustrated in Figs. l to l inelusive7 except that the sleeve is only of a length substantially corresponding to the width of the channel members 21 and 22. A bracket structure 79 is hingedly mounted as at E@ on spaced ears 8l on the lower channel 22 whereby when the Structure is mounted in a window opening the ears Ell and brackets '79 thereof extend outwardly relative to the window frame. The bracket 79 consists of spaced, hollow arms S2 each having one end connected to the ears 81 with the other ends of said arms connected by a cross member 83. The arms 82 have upwardly extending flanges 84 substantially in alignment with the end walls of the sleeve to cooperate with the arms to form spaced guides for slidably mounting a room cooler thereon. Brace members 35 preferably each consisting of two links 86 have adjacent ends pivotally connected. The outer end of one link of each brace member is pivotally connected as at S7 to the end portions of the frame or sleeve 15 and the outer end of the other link is pivotally connected as at 88 to the anges 84 whereby the bracket 79 may be hinged upwardly to fold against the frame or sleeve l or hinged outwardly for support whereby the arms 82 are substantially horizontal. A bracket extension 89 has guide members 90 slidably mounted in the arms 82 with the outer ends of said guide members connected by angle members 91. The guide members 9G have apertures 92 that are registerable with apertures 93 in the arms 82 for receiving pins or other fastening devices 94 to hold the extension in selected position relative to the bracket whereby the angle members 91 are spaced from the frame or sleeve substantially in accordance with the extension of the room cooler outwardly relative to said frame or sleeve 15. The arms 82 preferably have downwardly extending flanges 95 provided with spaced apertures 96 for receiving pins 97 to pivotally connect jacks 9S thereto, the other ends of the jacks 9S being shaped to rest on the outer portion of the window ledge or against the side of the building to provide additional support to the bracket and extension thereof.
The window mounting unit illustrated in Figs. 14 and 15 is installed in a window opening substantially in the same manner as described relative to the structure shown in Figs. l to 10 inclusive, and then the bracket 79 is swung outwardly and the extension 89 adjusted. The room cooler is inserted through the opening in the frame or sleeve and pushed outwardly onto the bracket whereby the bracket and extension support the outwardly extending part of the room cooler. Then the space between the room cooler, shell 7 and the bottom, top and sides of the frame or shell l5 is provided with suitable seal members to make a weathertight assembly.
It is believed obvious I have provided a window mounting attachment for room air conditioners that is economical to manufacture and easily installed in window openings to positively hold the window unit in position without auxiliary fastening devices and also provides for adjustment relative to the room air conditioner for varying the extension of same into a room.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1s:
l. A window mounting attachment for supporting a room air conditioning unit having a shell enclosing air cooling and circulatnig apparatus in a window opening beneath the lower sash of a vertically movable window comprising, a hollow substantially rectangular sleeve having an `opening therethrough for receiving a room air conditioning unit whereby said sleeve encompasses said unit shell `and is adjustable thereon, said sleeve being of less width than the width of the window opening, channel-shaped members mounted on the upper and lower portions of the sleeve and extending across the width thereof and cooperating with the sleeve to deneupper and lower trackways, said channel on the lower portion of the sleeve being adapted to rest on a window ledge below the lower sash of a vertically movable window with the channel on the upper portion below said lower sash, U-shaped extension frames having a vertical member connected to parallel channel shaped legs arranged at the ends of the sleeve with the legs slidable in the trackways for movement of the extension frames toward and away from the sleeve, said channel shaped legs having spaced flanges dening inwardly opening ways, an extensible member in each of the extension frames and having end portions secured to the sleeve and to the vertical member of the extension frames remotely of the sleeve respectively, said extensible members being of sheets of flexible material having a plurality of vertical folds therein defining a plurality of vertically extending panel portions hingedly connected at said vertical folds, vertically extending strips in the panel portions providing vertical rigidity to the panel portions, said extensible members having upper and lower portions extending into Y the ways between the flanges of the respective leg members, means forming a weathertight engagement of the portions of the extensible members between the flanges of the legs of the extension frames, resilient sealing strips on the extension frames and channels for making a weathertight mounting in the window opening, means in one of the trackways and iixed relative to the sleeve and having operative engagement with the respective legs of the extension frames in said one trackway for selectively moving said extension frames toward and away from the sleeve and holding said extension frames in tight engagement with the sides of the window opening, means removably engageable with the extension frame operating means from inside the opening in the sleeve whereby said removable means may be used to actuate the operating means for moving the extension frames only when the airconditioning unit shell is out of the sleeve, and adjustable means fixed relative to the sleeve for retaining the air conditioning unit shell in selected adjusted position therein.
2. A window mounting attachment for supporting a room air conditioning unit having a shell enclosing air cooling and circulating apparatus in a window opening beneath the lower sash of a vertically movable window comprising, a hollow substantially rectangular sleeve having an opening therethrough for receiving a room air conditioning unit shell whereby said sleeve encompasses said unit shell and is adjustable thereon, said sleeve being of less width than the width of the window opening, channel-shaped members mounted on the upper and lower portions of the sleeve and extending across the width thereof and cooperating with the sleeve to deline upper and lower trackways, said channel on the lower portion of `the sleeve being adapted to rest on Ia window ledge below the lower sash of a vertically movable Window with the channel on the upper portion below said lower sash, extension frames each having a vertical member arranged at the ends of the sleeve with legs slidable in the trackways for movement of the extension frames toward and away from the sleeve, an extensible member in each of the extension frames and having end portions se- ,gamona cured vto the `sleeve and to the vertical member Vof the extension frames remotely of the sleeve respectively, means forming a weathertight engagement of the extensible members and the legs of the extension frames, resilient sealing strips on the extension frames and channels for making a weathertight mounting in the'window opening, a worm gear rotatably mounted in-lone of the-channels, a worm meshing with the worm .gear for rotating same in response to rotation of said worm, means operatively connecting the worm Vgear with the lextension frames whereby rotation of the worm gear eects movement of the extension frames relative to the sleeve, and means removably engageable with the worm from inside the opening in the sleeve whereby said removable means may be used to rotate the worm and worm gear for moving the extension frames only when the air conditioning unit shell is out of the sleeve.
3. A window mounting .attachment for supporting a room air conditioning unit having a shell venclosing air cooling and circulating apparatus in a window opening beneath the lower sash of a vertically movable window comprising, a frame yhaving an opening therethrough for receiving a room air conditioner unit shell adjustably sleeved .therein whereby said frame encompasses said unit shell, said frame including trackwayhousings on the upper and lower portions thereof, a pair of extension panel members at the ends of the frame'and having guide members movable in the trackways of the frame for movement of the extension panel members toward rand away from the sides of va window frame, extensible members in the extension panel members and having portions secured to the yframe and panel members remotely of the frame respect'ively, means forming a weathertight-engagement of the extensible members and panel members, means in the trackway housings and having operative engagement with the panel members for selectively moving the panel members toward and away from the frame and holding said panel members in tight engagement with the sides of the window opening, said frame and trackway having apertures opening from inside the frame for access to said operating means whereby said operating means may be actuated for moving the panel members only when the air conditioning unit shell is out of the frame, means forming weathertight seals around the air conditioning unit shell and the mounting attachment for preventing passage of air, rain or the like through the window opening into `the room, a bracket hingedly mounted on the lower portion of the frame whereby said bracket extends outwardly of the window opening, foldable links pivotally connected to the upper portion of the frame and the outer portion of the bracket for permitting the bracket to be folded upwardly against the frame and when the bracket is unfolded to retain said bracket in horizontal position, and an extension on the bracket and selectively movable outwardly therefrom whereby the bracket and extension support the outwardly extending portion of a room air conditioner unit shell mounted in the frame.
4. A window mounting attachment for supporting a room air conditioning unit having a shell enclosing air cooling and circulating apparatus in a window opening beneath the lower sash of a vertically movable window comprising, a frame having an opening therethrough for receiving a room air conditioner unit shell adjustably sleeved therein whereby said frame encompasses said unit shell, said frame being of a width less than the width of the window opening, said frame including trackway housings on the upper and lower portions thereof, a pair of extension panel members at the ends of the frame and 4having guide members movable in the trackways of the frame for movement of the extension panel members toward and away from the sides of a window frame, extensible members in the extension panel members and having portions secured to the frame and panel members remotely of the frame respectively, means forming a weathertight engagement of the extensible members and panel Imembers, `means in one of :the-trackways aonthe framevandhaving operative engagement with the respective guide members of the panel members -in said one trackway Vfor moving the jpanel members toward 4and away from'the frame and-holding saidlpanellmembersin tight engagement with ythe sides of the window opening, said frame having an opening from inside thereof foraccess -to the panel member operating means, Ameans fremovably Vengageable lwith the panel member operating means :from inside the opening inthe-.frame Vwhereby said removable means may be-used to `actuate the operating means for moving the panelmembers only ywhen the .air conditioning unit is out of the frame, adjustable -means fixed relative to the frame for retainingthefair` conditioning Vunit shell in selected position'in the frame, .means forming weathertight seals around the air conditioning unit shell and the mounting 'attachment 'for preventing passage of air, rain or the likevfthrough .the window opening into the room, a brackethingedlymounted on the lower portion of the frame wherebysaid bracketextends outwardly of the window opening, -foldable links pivotally connected to the upperportion ofthe frame and -the outer portion of the bracket for permitting the bracket to be folded yupwardly against the frame and -when the bracket is unfolded to retainsaid bracketrin horizontal position, and an extension on the bracket-and selectively movable outwardly therefrom whereby the bracket and extension support the outwardly extending portion of a room air conditioner unit shell mounted in the frame.
5. A window mounting attachment for supporting a room Vfair conditioning unit having a shell enclosing an air cooling ,and circulating apparatus in a window opening comprising, a hollow substantially lrectangular sleeve having an opening therethrough for receiving a room air conditioner unit shell having a forward end adapted to be toward a room and a rear end exteriorly of the window opening whereby said sleeve encompasses said unit shell and is movable relative thereto between said ends of said unit shell, said sleeve being of less width than the width of the window opening, trackway housings on the upper and lower portions of said sleeve, extension frames each having a vertical member at the ends thereof remote from the sleeve wit-h legs slidable in the trackway housings for movement of the extension frames toward and away from the sleeve, panel members in the extension frames secured to the sleeve and extension frames respectively for kclosing the opening therebetween, seal means in the sleeve and extending around the opening therethrough adjacent the ends thereof and engaging the unit shell and making a weathertight seal therewith, means adjustably mounted in the sleeve and movable to engage the unit shell for holding said unit shell in fixed relation to the sleeve, and means on the sleeve engaged with the extension frames for holding said extension frames in tight engagement with the sides of the window opening.
6. A window mounting attachment for supporting a room air conditioning unit having a shell enclosing an air cooling and circulating apparatus in a window opening beneath the lower sash of a vertically movable window comprising, a hollow substantially rectangular sleeve having an opening therethrough for receiving a room air conditioner unit shell having a forward end adapted to be toward a room and a rear end exteriorly of the window opening whereby said sleeve encompasses said unit shell and is adjustable toward and away from the forward end of said unit shell, said sleeve being of less width than the width of the window opening, trackway housings on the upper and lower portions of said sleeve, extension frames each having a vertical member at the ends thereof remote from the sleeve with legs slidable in the trackway housings for movement of the extension frames toward and away from the sleeve, panel members in the extension frames secured to the sleeve and extension frames respectively for closing the opening therebetween, means forming a weathertight engagement of the panel members with the extension frame and shell, resilient sealing strips on the extension frames and trackway housings for making a weather-tight mounting in the window opening, seal means in the sleeve and extending around the opening therethrough adjacent the ends thereof engaging the unit shell and making a Weathertight seal therewith, means adjustably mounted in the sleeve and movable to engage the unit shell for holding said unit shell in xed relation to the sleeve, and means on the sleeve engaged with the extension frames for holding said extension frames in tight engagement with the sides of the window opening.
7. A Window mounting attachment for supporting a room air conditionging unit having a shell enclosing an air cooling and circulating apparatus in a window opening comprising, a hollow substantially rectangular sleeve having an opening therethrough for receiving a room air conditioner unit shell having a forward end adapted to be toward the room to be cooled and a rear end exteriorly of the window opening whereby said sleeve encompasses said unit shell, said sleeve being of substantially less length than the unit shell with the sleeve opening shaped whereby the unit shell received therein is movable relative to the sleeve to vary the spacing between the sleeve and the forward end of the unit shell, means adjustably mounted in the sleeve and movable to engage the unit shell for clamping said unit shell in selected adjusted position relative to the sleeve, said sleeve being of less width than the width of the Window opening, trackway housings on the upper and lower portions of said sleeve, a pair of extension frames at the sides of the sleeve, said extension frames each having a vertical member at the ends thereof remote from the sleeve and parallel channel shaped members slidable in the trackway housings for movement of the extension frames toward and away from `the sleeve,
an extensible panel member in each of the extension frames and having end portions secured to the sleeve and the vertical member of the extension frames respectively for closing the opening therebetween, said extension panel members each having a plurality of vertical folds therein defining a plurality of vertical extending panel portions, means hingedly connecting adjacent edges of the panel portions, means in the panel portions providing vertical rigidity thereto, said panel portions extending into and being slidable in the channel shaped leg members, resilient seal members in the channel lshaped leg members and engaging the panel portions extending into said leg members to form a substantially weathertight` seal therebetween, seal means in the sleeve and extending around the opening therethrough adjacent the ends thereof engaging the unit shell and making a weathertight seal therewith, and means engaging the sleeve and extension frames for holding the extension frames in tight engagement with the sides of the window opening.
