Fig. 4 is a top plan view of a modifiedcover holdernfor an infant with the adjustable head section thereon. 1
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the top of the cover pro- '20 infant cover holder of the. kind to be more par ticularly Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the modified cover holder shown in Fig. 4. i
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of themodified form of cover holder shown in Figs. 4 and 5 above. 7
Fig. 7 is a plan view of another modified form of the infant cover holder constructed according to another embodiment of my invention.
Fig. 8 is yet another form of my invention.
Fig. 9 is a transverse section of the hinged forms of my invention shown above and described herein.
I have developed an improved cover holder for holding a cover on an infant in a crib or small bed and this cover holder is thought to be a considerable improvement over the cover holders presently in use.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings the numeral 10 designates generally a cover holder constructed according to an embodiment of my invention for holding a cover 11 on an infant while the infant is in a crib or in a small bed. The cover holder 10 is adapted to flatly engage on a cover 11 while providing free movement of the infant under the cover so that the infant may move about freely even to the point of crawling longitudinally toward the head of the bed or crib without becoming uncovered by the cover 11. The cover holder 10 is adapted to cover about the sides of the head of the infant and allow the infant to roll on its shoulders below the cover 11.
The cover holder 10 is substantially U-shaped in configuration being made, as shown in Figs. 1 to 3 of the 2,817,853 Paftented Dec. 31, 1957 drawings, of substantially flexible sheet material as sheet;
metal, designated generally by the reference numeral 14 in the drawings and the sheet 14 is cut to provide laterally lying the infant 12. In the operative position of the cover.
holder 10 the side arms 15.are adapted to lie adjacent to the sides of the infant above the cover 11 and the bight portion is adapted to be located adjacent to the feet of the infant.
In the formation of the flat sheet member 15 there are provided laterally and longitudinally spaced apart cut out openings 17 therethrough for receiving a portion of an anchor strap 18 which is thus connected to the cover holder 10 and to the bed 20 on which the infant and cover 11 are engaged.
The bed 20 is of a conventional formation having longitudinally extending frame members 21 thereon with 1 which the anchor strap 18 is adapted to be engaged remote from the cover holder 10.
Also formed or secured on the cover holder 10 there are provided tubular guides 19 adjacent to the cut out openings 17 for the sliding engagement of a headboard or headboard frame to be more particularly described hereinafter.
In Figs. 4 to 6 of the drawings there is shown a modified form of this invention where the cover holder 30 is formed of a length of wire bent upon itself to provide an inner U-shaped member 31 and an outer U-shaped member 32 with a space between the inner and outer U-shaped portions of the wire so that the holder 30 is not entirely, engaged with the cover to be held on to the bed in its.
covering relation to an infant therein.
The wire is extended and bent upon itself to provide an inner U 34 and an outer U 35, the reference numerals 34 and 35 being particularly adapted to designate the bight portions of the inner and outer U. As described above the inner and outer U are spaced apart and at the 1 corner of the bight portion 34 and 35 there is provided a connector 36 for securing the inner U and outer U together in their cover holding relation to each other.
The cover holder 30 i to be anchored in a bed in substantially the same manner as the cover holder 10 described above and there is provided a plurality of eyes 37 on the outer edge of the outer U for receiving therethrough a strap, not shown in the drawings, as the strap 18.
Also formed on the wire there are provided longitudinally extending sleeves 38 slidably receiving therein the portions of the headboard frame 39 which are slidably or removably connected to the cover holder. The headboard frame is particularly adapted to be connected to the arms of the cover holder 30 remote from the bight portions formed thereby. The headboard frame 39 has a cross bar 40 extending transversely of the cover holder 30 with depending headboard frame bars 41 perpendicular to a cross bar 40 at the ends thereof. A perpendicular bar 42, perpendicular to the depending bar 41 spaced from the cross bar 40 is slidably engaged within the sleeves 38. The sleeves 38 are so disposed in relation to each other that one of the sleeves will provide a stop 44 on the bar 42 to prevent the sliding movement of the headboard frame 39 too far along the length of the cover holder 30 as clearly shown in the attached drawings.
There is provided an elongated chain 45' connected at one end to the headboard frame 39 and the cover holder 30 to prevent the loose engagement of the headboard frame from the cover holder and there is provided a sheet offabric or other flexible material between the transversely spaced apart depending bars 42 of the headboard frame so that the infant will not crawl from the cover being held by the cover holder whether'or not the crib or bed is provided with a headboard to=prevent andprotect'the infant frominjury when out frorn the cover being heldby the cover holder herein described.
It is for this reasonthat the headboard frame is provided not only for the cover holder 30 but also for the cover holder at which time the bars 42 of the headboardframe 39 are adapted to be engagedin the tubular guides 19 carried by that cover holder. is placed over sheet with foot end corresponding with childs feet and head endas near head board as childs head will permit. This will keep child from crawling out. This cover holder permits additional covers to be added or removed at will. Therefore, the child cannot kick the covers'off nor crawl from under them.
The cover holders shown and described above may be hinged to the foot or either side of thebed and may be also made in two hingedly connected sections, not shown in the drawings.
In Fig. 7 the holder is designated generally by the reference numeral 50 being formed of a pair of locked together horizontal frame sections 51 locked together by a catch or hasp 52 on the bight portions 54 of the panel sections 51 which together constitute the horizontal panel 50.
The latch 52 which holds the panel sections 51 together comprises a horizontally pivoted bar 54, hinged on a vertical axis, at right angles to the panel 50 pivoted at one end thereof to one of the fragmentary panels-51 and releasably engaged with the keeper 55 on the other bight portion of the other arm 51: clearly shown in Fig. 7 of the drawings. When thisother end of the bar 54 is engaged within the keeper 52 the panel is disposed in avertically extending position, relative to the bed on which it is mounted, clearly shown in Fig. 9 of the drawings.
A hinge 56 pivotally mounts the outside edges of both of the arm sections 51 to the bed, the hinge 56 comprising a leaf 57 secured to one of each of the panel sections 51 and the other of the hinge leafs 58 being hingedly mounted to the frame of the bed on which the cover holder is mounted.
In such cases where the cover holder is formed of an elongated length of wire bent to provide a U-shapedcover holder, the center of inner length of wire 71 is bent, intermediate the length thereof, to provide a similar outer length of wire 72 which together with the inner length of wire provides an arm and a segmental bight portion 74' at one end of the length of both of the wires 71 and 72. A fiat sheet of material, as metal or the like 75; is secured at one end to the bight portion 74 to one of the fragmentary bight portions of the panel formed by the longi- Cover holder tudinally extending arms or wires 71 or 72. One of the fiat sheet members is provided with a hinged latch 4. bar 76 mounted thereon and the other end of the latch bar 76 is releasably engageable in a keeper 77 carried by the other member 75 of the other fragmentary segmental panel section described above.
The outer longitudinally extending arm 72 is provided with a hinge 78 with hinge leaves 79 and 80 for hingedly connecting one of the hinged sections of the panel to the crib or bed on which the cover holder is to be applied.
With the latching arm 76'removed from the keeper 77 both of the panel-sections may be hinged to a vertically extending position as the vertically extending position shown in dot and dash lines of Fig. 9 of the drawings.
While the specific. details of one embodiment of this invention have been shown and described herein, the invention is not confined thereto as change and alterations may be made without departing from the spirit and scope thereof as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. An infant cover holder for holding in position a cover of an infant in-bed comprising a single length of wire bent to form an inner U-shaped member and an outer U-shaped member, the ends of the legs of said inner U-shaped member being extended outwardly and rearwardly to form connected legs of the outer U-shaped member, an inverted U-shaped head member, right angled bars extending from the lower ends of the legs of said U shaped head member, and means adjustably securing said right angled bars to the legs of said outer U-shaped member.
2. An infant cover holder for holding in position a cover of an infant in bed comprising a single length of wire bent to form an inner U-shaped member and an outer U-shaped member, the ends of the legs of said inner U-shaped member being extended outwardly and rearwardly to form connected legs of the outer U-shaped memher, an inverted U-shaped head member, right angled bars extending from the lower end-s of the legs of said U-shaped head member, and means adjustably securing said right angled bars to the legs of said outer U-shaped member, said securing means comprising sleeves fixed to each leg of the outer U-shaped member, said sleeves hav ing apertures therein, each leg of said U-shaped head member extending slidably through an aperture in the sleeve carried by the adjacent leg of the outer U-shaped member.
