The remainder of said duplicating copy overlies the surface of said drum.
Shaft members 18b and 23b extend outwardly of plate member 10b for a short distance. Respectively secured to the outer ends of said shafts are sprockets 39 and 40. Running over said sprockets is an endless belt 42. A U- shaped bracket 46 is provided having its depending end portions pivotally secured to portions 10 and 10g by metal screws 48, and said bracket is disposed over the rearward portion of plate member 13. Swingably mounted on bracket 46 is an arm member 49 having resilient corrugated members 43a disposed about the lower portion thereof and adapted to engage the surface of member 13 when in lowered position.
A connecting member is provided having a short link portion 50a secured to shaft 30a. Said member 50 has its other portion comprising an elongated link pivotally secured to a side portion of bracket 46 whereby when said drum 30 is rotated, said bracket 46 and said feeding arm 49 will be given reciprocating movement.
Said drum is journaled in said A metal casing is provided, rectangular in vertical and horizontal cross section, the same having a bottom, and having a moisture retaining pad 55a disposed therein. Said casing has a roller 57 journaled in its bottom portion. A rather thin layer 55:11 of said pad extends below said bottom and engages the side of roller 57 so as to moisten said roller. Said member 55 is provided with spaced outwardly extending lug members 55b at its sides which are adapted to be received in and movable in slots 101' and 10 Said member 55 has a removable front plate portion 550 held in position by a bolt 55d extending through said member 55 and having a handle portion 552 threaded onto said bolt to hold said plate in position.
The lower end of front plate 550 engages the lower end of layer 55111 for holding the same in contact with roller 57.
In operating position, said member 55 is disposed in said slots Ni and 101' and said roller 57 will engage said roller 18 under tension. Said member 55 will be pushed downwardly to press against said roller 18 and the upper lug members 55b will be disposed in openings 10k and 10m to hold said member 55 in position.
Side cover plate members are provided to overlie plate members 10a and 10b, and said plate members 60 have inwardly turned flange portions 60a which overlie flange portions 10g and 10k and are secured thereto by metal screws 63. Said supporting members 1011 are also threaded through said flange portions of said cover plate 60 and as well said flange portions of said plates 10a and 1017.
In operation, a quantity of sheet material will be placed on plate member 13 between upwardly extending members 15a and said members 15a will be moved transversely of member 13 toward or away from one another to accommodate the width of said sheet material and to be closely adjacent the sides of said sheet material to hold the same in alinement in position. Said portions 15a are movable by operation of said screw member 17. Feeding arm 49 will be placed in a lowered position so that portions 49a will rest on said sheet material. The moistening pad 55a in member 55 will be moistened with a proper fluid, such as alcohol, and said member 55 will be placed in operating position, as above described. A master duplicating copy will be placed on drum 30, as above described. Rollers 18 and 23 are held in operating position under the tension of spring members 21 and 27 respectively. Roller 57 is held in position pressed against roller 18, as above described. The surface portion of drum 30 engages roller 23 under pressure, as above described. Drum 30 will be rotated by crank 35 in a countor-clockwise direction. The rotation of drum 30 will actuate bracket 46 and feeding arm 49 by moving the same with a reciprocating motion. Said feeding arm 49 and more specifically members 49a will move sheets of said sheet material forwardly in said device and the forward edge of said sheets will first be disposed between rollers 57 and 18. When said drum is rotated, it will rotate roller 23 under pressure. Said roller 23 will drive roller 18 by means of said driving belt 42. Roller 18 will rotate roller 57 under pressure. Hence when the forward edge of said sheet material is first disposed between rollers 57 and 18, said rollers will move said sheet material forwardly by their rotation and said roller 57 which receives moisture from pad 55a will deposit the same on the upper surface of said sheet material. Said rollers 57 and 18 move said sheet material forwardly to a position between said drum 30 and roller 23. The rotation of said drum 30 is coordinated with the forward movement of said sheet material so that that when the forward edge of said sheet material engages roller 23, the forward edge of the peripheral surface of said drum 30 will also engage roller 23 and the rotation of said drum against said roller 23 will move said sheet material forwardly therebetween and an impression of said master duplicating copy on said roller will be printed on the upper surface of said sheet material. This operation will be repeated until impressions have been placed on the desired number of sheets of said material.
Thus it is seen that I have provided a duplicating device having a simple and efiicient actuating and control means whereby the rotation of the drum positively actuates means for feeding sheet material into and through said device and which positively actuates means for properly moistening said sheet material and having an impression printed thereon. Applicants device has proved very successful in operation and is being made in commercial quantities.
