Y., a corporation of Delaware The present invention relates to a diffusion device particularly adapted for use with a heat exchange member wherein blowing means is utilized to move air which has been exposed to said heat exchange member.
Horizontally extending louvers are normally provided on items such as blower type unit heaters to accomplish control of the direction and projection of the conditioned air. Pivotal vertical fins have been added in some instances to accomplish closer control over the direction of flow. These fins are normally adjusted to various positions, some in one direction and some in another, to obtain a Wide spread of air flow. Such adjustable fins, being in the path of the air How, are frequently subject to vibration and resultant noise.
It is a principal object of the present invention to provide a diffusion device which will effect a long blow of air with consequent efficient distribution, while avoiding noise-making characteristics.
It is another object of the present invention to provide such a diffusion device which is simple and economical to manufacture.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide such a diffusion device which is easy to handle and install, and which is sturdy and eflicient in use.
Other objects of this invention will appear in the following description and appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts in the several views.

Fig. l is a perspective view of one of the diffusing devices of the present invention in place on a louver of a blower-type heater.
Fig. 2 is a plan View of one of the diffusing devices of the present invention in its original stamped condition before it is formed to final configuration.
Fig. 3 is a front view of a heater, showing one of the diffusing devices in place.
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of a heater utilizing the diffusing devices of the present invention.
Before explaining the present invention in detail, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited in its application to the details of construction and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings, since the invention is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced or carried out in various ways. Also, it is to be understood that the phraseology or terminology employed herein is for the purpose of description and not of limitation.
It has been found that the conventional type of forced air heater which utilizes several horizontal louvers does not project the air far enough out into the space being heated to be sufliciently effective. The problem which applicant sought to solve was the provision of a simple apparatus for obtaining a long blow While maintaining minimum cost and handling operations. The length of blow referred to herein is the forward distance which the air stream projects from the heater face, and is indicated by the dimension X in Fig. 4 of the drawings.
After considerable experimentation and research, it was found that if the air stream is broken up systematically and evenly, the length of blow is increased substantially. In fact, tests indicate that the length of blow is increased approximately twenty-five percent by the diffusing devices of the present invention.
Referring to Fig. 2 of the drawings, the diffusing device comprises a fiat metal stamping 10 which is bent along the form lines indicated in phantom to provide the finished product. When the stamping is bent along such lines, the diffusing device indicated at 12 in Fig. l is created. The difiusing device is shown in position on a horizontal louver 14, and the diffusing device includes the parallel vertical blades 16 and 18, the web portion or tie bar 20, and the tab 22.
i A single hole 24 is provided in the tie bar 20, which aligns with one of the holes 26 (Fig. 3) in the horizontal louver 14. The fastener or metal screw 28 is used to afiix the diffusion device 12 to the louver 14.
The unique single stamping provides a pair of diffuser blades in one unit. This saves stamping press time, and handling charges are considerably reduced. In addition, the time required to install the devices on the louvers is materially reduced. The tab 22 on the diffusing device saves time in aligning the blades 16 and 18 so that they are lined up at right angles to the air entering the edge of the louver. In addition, this tab permits the use of a single fastener, and eliminates the possibility of the diffusing device rotating about the fastener since the tab lies flush against the back edge of the louver. The tab 22 also serves to stiffen the tie bar 20, and holds the device securely in position, avoiding vibration and resultant noise.
The diffusion device of the present invention assures that all of the vertical blades will be rigidly affixed at right angles to the air entering the back edge of the horizontal louver to obtain maximum length of blow. It is simple and economical to produce, assemble in position, and service.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A diffusing device for use on the louver of an air moving unit, comprising a single stamping having a pair of spaced parallel blades formed therein, a tie bar extending between said blades, .a tab formed on one edge of said tie bar and bent out of the tie bar plane so as to be adapted to lie adjacent one edge of the louver to rigidly and accurately position said diffusing device With respect to the louver, and means for affixing said tie bar to the louver.

A diffusing device for use on the louver of an air moving unit, comprising a single stamping having a pair of spaced parallel blades formed therein, a tie bar extending between said blades, and having a single hole therein to accommodate a single fastener for aifixing said diffusing device to the louver, and a tab formed on one edge of said tie bar and bent out of the tie bar plane so as to be adapted to lie adjacent one edge of the louver to rigidly and accurately position said diffusing device with respect to the louver, and a single fastener projectable through the hole for afiixing said tie bar to the louver. portion is provided with a single hole to accommodate a 3.
