Description
Oct. 29, 1957 J. F. SAND 2,811,294
WATCH BRACELET Filed Aug. 8, 1955 Unite WATCH BRACELET John F. Sand, Convent Station, N. J., assignor, by mesne assignments, to The Gemex Corporation, Union, N. J., a corporation of New Jersey Application August 8, 1955, Serial No. 527,005
3 Claims. (Cl. 224-4) This invention relates to watch bracelets, and more particularly to watch bracelets of the looped cord type.
Among the several objects of the invention may be noted the provision of a looped cord type of watch bracelet having means whereby the wearer may readily shorten or lengthen the loop of the cord with her fingers, without requiring the use of any tools; the provision of a watch bracelet of the class described wherein said means comprises a combination cord slide and holder which may be adjusted by sliding it on the cord to any desired position and which then remains in place to hold the loop; and the provision of a watch bracelet of this class wherein the construction of the cord slide and holder is such that it may be made to have an ornamental appearance. Essentially, a bracelet of this invention comprises a cord formed with a cross-over loop which extends through the usual cord-receiving lug on the watch, and a cord slide and holder having a portion surrounding the intersection of the crossedover portions of the cord forming the crossover loop and further having portions extending between the crossed-over portions of the cord on opposite sides of said intersection. Other objects and features will be in part apparent and in part pointed out hereinafter.
The invention accordingly comprises the constructions hereinafter described, the scope of the invention being indicated in the following claims.
In the accompanying drawings, in which one of various possible embodiments of the invention is illustrated,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view illustrating a wrist watch having a bracelet incorporating this invention;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragment of Fig. 1, and viewed from a different angle; and,
Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Corresponding reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawmgs.
Referring to the drawings, there is indicated at 1 a typical ladys wrist Watch having cord-receiving lugs 3. A bracelet for the watch is shown to comprise two sections of cord 5 having a clasp 7. The latter may be of any conventional construction. In accordance with this invention, each cord 5 is formed with a cross-over loop 9 extending through a respective lug 3 of the watch. The intersection of the crossed-over portions of the cord forming the cross-over loop is designated 11.
A cord slide and holder of this invention is generally designated 13. This consists of a first flat ring and a second flat ring 17 secured together in planes at right angles and transverse to the long dimensions of the rings. The rings may be made of metal and soldered together. The first ring surrounds the intersection 11 of the crossedover portions of the cord forming the loop 9. The portion 19 of the second ring 17 on the side of the first ring 15 toward the lug 3 extends through the loop on one side of the intersection, and the portion 21 of the second ring on the other side of the first ring extends between the ice crossed-over portions of the cord on the other side of the intersection. It will be understood that the crossover arrangement of the cord within the slide 13 is effected by appropriate threading of the ends of the cord through the slide prior to securement of the ends of the cord to the clasp 7.
As will be seen in Fig. 1, each section of cord 5 is provided with a cross-over loop 9 and a cord slide and holder 13. The wearer of the watch may readily shorten or lengthen either of the loops 9 by sliding the respective member 13 on the cord to the desired position corresponding to the desired size of loop. The slide then remains in place to hold the desired size of loop. The ring 17, as shown, is relatively wide, and may be ornamented on its outer face as desired.
In view of the above, it will be seen that the several objects of the invention are achieved and other advantageous results attained.
As various changes could be made in the above constructions without departing from the scope of the invention, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
I claim:
1. A bracelet for a watch of the type having cordreceiving lugs, said bracelet comprising a cord formed with a cross-over loop adapted to pass through a lug on a watch, a cord slide and holder comprising a ring located in a plane extending lengthwise of the cord, said ring surrounding the intersection of the crossed-over portions of the cord forming the cross-over loop thereby having a portion extending through the loop on one side of said intersection and a portion extending between the crossedover portions of the cord on the other side of said intersection, and a generally fiat member secured to said ring and extending laterally outward on opposite sides of said ring.
2. A bracelet for a watch of the type having cordreceiving lugs, said bracelet comprising a cord formed with a cross-over loop adapted to pass through a lug on a watch, a cord slide and holder comprising a flat ring surrounding the intersection of the crossed-over portions of the cord forming the cross-over loop located in a plane transverse to the length of the cord and a second ring secured to the first ring in a plane at right angles to the plane of the first ring, a portion of the second ring on the side of the first ring toward the lug extending through the loop on one side of said intersection and a portion of the second ring on the other side of the first ring extending between the crossed-over portions of the cord on the other side of said intersection.
3. A bracelet for a watch of the type having cordreceiving lugs, said bracelet comprising a cord formed with a cross-over loop, a cord slide and holder comprising a first ring having a circular cross-section and surrounding the intersection of the cross-over portions of the cord forming the cross-over loop located in a plane transverse to the length of the cord, a'second ring having a fiat inside surface secured to the first ring at right angles to the plane of the first ring and surrounding the intersection of the crossed-over portions of the end.
