Claims priority, application Italy July 8, 1953 2 Claims. (Cl. 15344) The present invention relates to a brush having a handle in which is embodied a small suction cleaner made up of a fan and a motor driving the fan, a support for the bristles, a filtering bag embracing the bristles support, which is connected to the suction cleaner, this bag gathering the dust while letting air filter through.
In this manner it is possible to construct a brush of a size not greater than that of the common brushes and which has the additional function of sucking the dust picked up by the brush into the bag, the handling of the brush being allowed by the use of a single hand.
In the appended drawing an embodiment of the brush of the present invention is illustrated in a single figure showing a sectional view of the device.
The brush is made up of a housing or body 1, an electric motor 2 positioned in said housing, a fan equipped with radial blades 4 rigidly fitted on a shaft 3 of the motor 2. The electric motor 2 is controlled by a switch 5 which is provided on the side of the brush body in such a position so as to make it possible to actuate said switch by the thumb, even during the handling of the brush. The outer part of the body or housing 1 is provided with a skirt 15 to the lower part of which a cup 6 is screwed on at 6 for supporting bristles 7; the cup 6 and bristles 7 make up the suction brush.
The bristles 7 may be of different length and size and are set up in the cup according to the purpose for which the brush is to be employed. The threading of the cup 6 on skirt 15 permits its easy replacement. The cup 6 is provided with a central opening screened by a grid 14 of a size corresponding to the fan blades 4 through which opening the dust is sucked.
The air and dust sucked in by the fan pass through openings 8 into a bag 9 which bag surrounds said openings 8 and the skirt 15, and by means of elastic rings 10 said bag is fastened on the body 1 and the rear portion of cup 6.
The body 1 is provided with a tubular elastic extension or handle 13, which accommodates an electric cable 12 to provide electric current to the motor 2.
The suction brush functions in the following way: While a dress or other garment is being brushed, the dust raised thereby is sucked, together with air, by the rotation of the fan blades operated by the motor 2 controlled by the switch 5. The dust-laden air so sucked gets through the grid 14 and openings 8 and collects into the filtering bag 9, which bag holds the dust and discharges the cleaned air into the room space. The filtering bag 9 may be easily removed from the brush by means of the elastic rings 10.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A suction brush comprising a body having a handle portion, a hollow tubular housing arranged normal to the axis of the handle portion, an electric motor coaxially mounted in said housing, and provided with an outwardly extending shaft, a fan with radial blades mounted on the outer portion of the shaft, a skirt carried by and surrounding the housing and extending beyond the end thereof and surrounding the fan, a cup-shaped bristle support secured to the outer portion of the skirt and encasing the fan, the central portion of the cup-shaped bristle support having openings therein providing access to the central portion of the fan, a plurality of brush bristles mounted in the cup-shaped support about the openings therein and in the side wall of the cup-shaped support, the inner portion of the skirt having openings therein, an annular porous bag having an opening in its inner portion to receive the tubular housing and an opening in its outer portion to receive the skirt, and means cooperating with the bag adjacent the openings therein for securing the bag to the housing and skirt to receive dust laden air discharged by the fan through the openings in the inner portion of the skirt.
2. A suction brush according to claim 1 in which the bristle support is threadedly mounted on the outer portion of the skirt.
