UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES H. RUSS, E rEovmENoE, RHODE ISLAND.
COMBINED WINDOW-SHADE WElGHT AND PULL.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 280,768, dated July 3, 188
' Application filed April13, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES H. Russ, of Provideuce, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and Improved Gombined Window-Shade Weight and Pull, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention consists in a stamped or cast shade pull or weight formed of a pendent portion, arms, and perforated members, as hereinafter described.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a front elevation, showing my improved weight or pull as it appears when attached to the window-shade. Figs. 2 and 3 are transverse sectional elevations taken on the line 00 as of Fig. 1, illustrating the method of attaching the weight or pull to the shade and stick.
The curtain weight or pull A is by preferencecast or struck up out of white-metal in the form shown in the dra'wings, with the pendent portion a and the arms I) b. The arms I) b are divided to form the members 0 c, which receive the hem of the shade B and shade-stick E between them, and these members are correspondingly perforated, as shown clearly at d d, Fig. 2, for the passage of the pins, nails, rivets, 0r screws 6 e, for attaching the weight or pull to the shade and shade-stick, as will be clearly understood from Fig. 3.
Before the weight or pull is attached to the shade-stick E, the members 0 cwill stand straight and parallel with each other, as shown in Fig. 2, so that they may be easily placed upon the shade-stick; but when the rivets or nails are put in, they may be drawn down to conform to the shape of the sides of the shade stick, as shown in Fig. 3.
Constructed in this manner, it will be seen that the weight or pull may be very easily attached to the shade-stick; that all intermediate loose or separate attachments are dispensed with; that the pull is made rigid, and, when attached, becomes practically a part of the shade-stick, so that it will not swing side wise out of line with the stick; that it may be attached to any shade-stick, and that when made heavyit serves both the purposes of a pull and weight, so that the loading of the stick by slotting it and inserting in the slot a piece of iron, as is the usual practice, may be dispensed with. Besides, the pull or weight is cheap, and may be made very ornamental.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The stamped or cast shade pull or weight, made substantially as herein shown and described, consisting of the pendent portion a, in combination with the arms I) and members 0, that are perforated for the passage of rivets or other fastenings, e, as and for the purposes set forth.
