2,807,362 Paten-redeem; w24, 1951 This invention relates to masking kits for dolls for use by small children in masking dolls. n

A principal object of the invention is to provide a kit containing a variety of masks and clothes for use by small children in dressing up dolls in masquerade fashion.

Another object of the invention is to provide a kit of this kind whereby the masks and clothes are packaged for full inspection by the customer in such manner as to permit full visibility yet are protected from damage due to handling or manipulation by the customer.

A further object is to provide a method of packaging masks and masquerade clothes whereby the masks and clothes may be fully protected at all times from any contact while in transportation, with customers or with the surrounding atmosphere to the end that the rack-life or shelf life of the kit or package may be of indefinite duration.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the masking kit is shown in Fig. l and is indicated generally at 8. The kit comprises va rectangular supporting card 9 for'supporting facial masks 10, a costume 11 and a supply of fastener elements 12, all enclosed in a cellophane, glassine or other suitable plastic transparent envelope 13. The envelope is y preferably closed across the top by means of a paper strip 14 which may have a central opening 15 for slipping the envelope over a suitable support. The face of the paper strip may have any suitable advertising or identifying indicia printed thereon.

The card 9 may be formed of cardboard, pasteboard, plastic or any other suitable flexible inexpensive material. Pressed out of the material of the card and out of the plane thereof, around the periphery thereof, by any suitable process, is a plurality of facial masks 10. These masks simulate the heads and faces of various animals of the animal kingdom, such as dogs, monkeys, rabbits and the like, and the heads and faces of human beings, such as clowns, tramps and the like, with grotesque facial expressions. Each masked face is suitably colored, preferably the various features of the face each has a contrasting color such as red indicated at 16, white indicated at 17, blue indicated at 18, and yellow indicated at 19. While the card is shown with seven masked faces, it will be understood that any desired number may be formed on the card, depending on the size of the card.

The material of the card around each masked face 10 is scored or weakened as indicated at 20, leaving opposed Y Y 2 unsco'redareasrasiindicatedat 21` in order to connect' and hold the masked faces 10' to the card. g

At the center of the lowerend'o'f the card directly: in line with the center masked face at the top, the material of the card is pressed outwardly into a substantially triangular protuberance 22 tapered at its top end as indicated at 23.

A costumeor article of clothing I1 of inexpensive fabric is supported on the cardA 9 in the space between the facial masks 10. This costume has outstretched arms 25 and spaced legs 26, with a neck opening 27 continuing into an opening 28 down the back. The back opening is closed by snap fastener elements indicated at 29. The costume is positioned on the card with its neck opening immediately below the center masked face 10 at the top and with the legs 26 thereof straddling the triangular protuberance 22, said center masked face and protuberance serving as guides to properly position the costume on the card. The costume is fastened in position on the card by any suitable fastening means such as a wire loop 30 piercing the material of the card and the material of the costume at the rear so that the costume may be readily detached from the card. The costume may have any desired configuration and design of contrasting colors, the costume illustrated being that of a clown with a diamond design colored red, whiteA and blue as indicated at 31, 32 and 33, respectively.

The fastener elements 12 are loosely mounted in the envelope 13 and tied together in a bunch by an elastic band 34. Each fastener element is formed from a piece of elastic cord 35 with its ends encased in metal sleeves 36 having needle points 37 for piercing the material of the masked face. A fastening element is provided for each masked face.

The kit is to be used in dressing dolls at home in masquerade fashion by masking the face and body of the doll. In Fig. 7, there is shown a doll 38 upon which has been placed a costume taken from the kit, such as the costume 11. A masked face 10 punched out from the card 9, the score lines permitting this, lhas been placed over the face of the doll and is releasably fastened on the head 39 of the doll by means of a fastener element 12 encircling the head, the pointed ends 37 of the fastener element having been pierced through the material of the masked face at the temples 40 of the mask.

The costumes and masked faces supplied in the kits are dimensioned to fit standard sized dolls, such as an 8 doll.

It will be understood that various kits will supply various types and kinds of costumes with a variety of designs, and will also supply various types and kinds of facial masks so as to provide interest and entertainment as well as education for the children.

I claim:

l. A masking kit for dolls comprising in combination a transparent envelope, a card removably mounted therein, said card being formed with a plurality of spaced pressed out facial masks around the periphery thereof adapted to be detached from the card, a doll costume detachably supported on said card in the space between said masks and in the line with one of said facial masks, and a bunch of fastening elements removably mounted in the envelope for fastening a detached facial mask to the head of a doll.

A masking kit for dolls comprising in combination a transparent envelope, a card removable mounted therein, said card being formed with a plurality of spaced pressed out facial masks around the periphery thereof adapted to be detached from the card, a protuberance pressed out of said card at the bottom end and centrally thereof, a two-legged doll costume detachably supported on said card in the space between said'masks with its upper end in line with one of said facial masks on the top end of the card, and with its legs straddling the protuberance on` said card, and a bunch of fastening elements removably mounted in the ,envelope for fastening a detached facial mask to the head of a doll, said costume being colored with contrasting colors, said facial masks being colored with contrasting colors.
