CARD RACK Filed Feb. l, 1956 INVENTOR. Il?. 5ml fh and C RACK Roy R. Smith wd Dyle E. Williams, Kansas City, Mo.; said Smith assigner to said Wiihams Application February 1, 1956, Serial No. 562,736
7 Claims.- (Cl. 41?;72)
This invention relates to ca'rd holders and is particularly adaptable for use in laundry callrolces and the likeV whereby a card record is maintained for each customer.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a card holder of this character having a plurality of clips or holders forming` pockets for holding the cards, and particularly theV arrangement of the clips and shaping thereof for providing a spring tension on the cards to hold the cards in the pockets and removability of the clips from the rods of the holding frame.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a card holder of this character having clips forming pockets for the holding of the cards constructed so asv to exert a pressure on the card to resiliently retain the cards therein; to provide a frame adapted to accommodate a plurality of holders or clips for holding the cards; to provide means for rotatably mounting the frame on a support; to provide holders for the cards adapted to nest one within the other so as to retain` cards 'on' each side ofthe frame member to provide the rack with a space for advertising indicia, and vto provide -afdevice of 4this `character simple and economical to manufacture.
In accomplishing these and other objects of the present invention, I have provided improved details of structure the preferred forms of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Fig. l is a fragmentary perspective view of a plurality of frame members mounted on a rotatable support showing the clips or trays for holding the cards mounted in the racks.
Fig. 2 is an elevational view of one of the frames with the trays or clips mounted therein and particularly illustrating the horizontal rods for mounting the clips and with parts broken away to better illustrate the invention.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective view of one of the clips or trays.
Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view through the clip taken on aline 4 4 (Fig. 3).
Fig. 5 is a transverse-sectional view through a portion of the frame and clip particularly illustrating the mounting of the clips on the frame.
Referring more in detail to the drawings.
1 designates a card holder embodying the features of my invention comprising, a rotatable support 2 for a plurality of frames 3 pivotally mounted on the support.
The frames 3 consist of parallel vertical side arms or members 4 and 5 and ends 6 and 7. The respective ends of the side arm 4 have enlarged portions 8 and 9 providing on its respective ends trunnions and 11 so as to pivotally mount the frame in openings 12 and 13 of upper and lower spaced plates 14 and 15 mounted upon a rod 16 forming the supporting member 2 at both the top and bottom as best illustrated in Fig. l so as to provide access to either side of the frame by pivoting said frame.
States Patent Patented sept. 1o, 1957 Any number of frames may be utilized as desired andAV on the horizontally extending rods 17 and are prefer-Y ably formed of a single sheet of material bentas at 20 (Fig. 3)`to form upwardlyV extending legs 21 and 22.
Adjacent the bent portion 20 of the holder and Vspaced inwardly from the ends thereof the legs 21 and 22 are struck inwardly forming bosses' as indicated at 23 to provide a pocket 24 for the horizontal rods 17 to retain the holders thereon. I preferably providegthe bosses on each leg of the clip near theend thereof as illustrated in Fig. 3. The respective legs 21 and 22 of the holders are inclined outwardly slightly as indicated at 25 and then inwardly to 'forni a narrow throat.26 Vbetween the respective legs and the outer ends are bent outwardly as indicated at 27 providing a pocket 28 for the cards 19 and to provide a spring tension on the holder to provide pressure on the cards toV retain the cards therein.V
indicated at 29, Fig. 5, thus exerting tension on the cards thereinY 'as/indicated at 3i). The bosses 231 will retain the holders on the horizontal rod` but they may' be removed 'therefrom by tensioning outwardly.
Index tabs or cards 31 may be provided for insertion in the clips and provided with alphabetical indicial as indicated at 32 (Fig. 2).
The clips or Card holders are placed on the frame 3 by placing same on the topmost horizontal rods 17 and then each one consecutively mounted to the next below rods, the lowermost horizontal rod being spaced from the bottom bar 6 a sucient distance to allow insertion of the last holder thereover.
Integrally formed with the top of the side arm 5 of the frame 3 is a rod or bar 34 which is rounded upwardly toward the center and downwardly to connect with the enlarged portion 9 of side bar 4 as illustrated in Fig. 2 forming a space 35 between the rod 34 and the upper end of rod 7 of the frame 3. A plate 36 for advertising indicia or the like has its respective side edges 37 and 38 secured to the rods 7 and 34 by bending the edges therearound also as illustrated in Fig. 2, or by other suitable means.
In operation of a device constructed and assembled as described the cards 19 may be insertedv on each side of the frame 3 in the holders or pockets and extend above the top edge of the holder a suiiicient distance to allow the name on the card to be viewed as shown at 33 in Fig. 5. The card will extend to substantially the top edge of the next above holder. The cards are placed on each side of the frame and by pivoting the frame either side may be viewed and rotation of the support will bring any frame member immediately to the operators view.
It will be obvious from the foregoing that I have provided an improved clip or holder for cards on a frame- Work structure which will provide spring tension thereon to retain the cards in the pockets onv either side of the framework structure.
