Description
Aug. 13, 1957 F. GALEAZZI SPRAY CAP AND BOTTLE Filed July 20, 1954 IN V EN TOR.
United States Patent SPRAY CAP AND BOTTLE Franco Galeazzi, Milan, Italy Application July 20, 1954, Serial No. 444,569
(Slainis priority, application Italy July 24, 1953 3 Ciaims. (Cl. 299-95) The present invention relates to a bottle for containing liquid under pressure, in particular scents, cosmetics, insecticides, disinfectants and the like, and adapted to receive a cap for spraying said liquid under pressure.
It is a purpose of the present invention to provide a bottle of the aforesaid kind wherein a cup carrying the immersion tube efiects also the air-tight sealing of the bottle, withdut having recourse to other means for obtaining such sealing.
The bottle according to the present invention, for containing liquid under pressure and adapted to receive a spray cap, is therefore characterized by a sealing member formed by a cap which with its border tightens about the upper portion of the bottle neck and which is provided in its central portion with an embossment penetrating into the interior of the bottle neck, the lower portion of said embossment being fitted into a tube immersed down to the bottom of the bottle and being very thin-Walled so that it can be very easily perforated axially.
The invention is more fully described hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 represents the bottle in axial section, and
Fig. 2 represents an axial section of the spray cap applicable to said bottle of Figv 1.
With reference to said figures, in which equal reference numerals indicate equal or corresponding parts, 1 indicates the bottle containing the liquid 2 to be sprayed, and provided with a neck 3 having an external threading 4.
On the orifice of the neck 3 there is provided the seat 5 on the bottom of which there are provided the circular flutes 6 having triangular cross-section, adapted to increase the tightness of the gasket 7 accommodated in the aforesaid seat 5.
On the neck 3 of the bottle 1 there is fitted the member 8 to rest on the gasket 7. The member 8 is adapted to elfect the air-tight sealing of said bottle 1. Said closing member 8 having a thin wall clamps tightly with its border 9 around the upper portion of the neck 3 of the bottle 1 and is provided in its central portion with an embossment 10 penetrating into the interior of said neck 3 of the aforesaid bottle 1.
The lower portion 11 of said embossment 10 is swelled and thereupon is fitted elastically the tube 12 for reaching the bottom of the bottle.
The cup-shaped closing member 8 acts as a provisional 7 2,802,696 Patented Aug. 13, 1957 sealing diaphragm and is perforated axially by the needle 13, with which mushroom-shaped sealing valve 14 of the spray cap 15 is provided, when the latter is mounted by screwing on the externally threaded neck 3 of the bottle 1 (see Fig. 2) and said valve 14 opens for the first tirne. Said mushroom-shaped valve 14 and, therefore, the perforating needle 13, is actuated by the push-button 16 against the action of the spring 17.
The spray cap is described in the patent application No. 444,567 of the same applicant and has been represented in its particulars and described summarily merely for the puropse of making more fully clear the application and use of the closing member, but it should be understood that the scope of the present invention is formed solely by the bottle with its sealing member applied thereon as hereinbefore set forth.
What I claim is:
1. A bottle adapted to contain liquid under pressure and having an integral neck portion on which a spray cap is fitted for sealing the bottle while dispensing the liquid from the bottle, said spray cap including an inwardly pressable solid needle and valve unit disposed within the outer end portion of the neck portion; means sealing the bottle until the needle is initially pressed and comprising a sealing member having concentric, radially spaced inner and outer walls adapted to clamp on the inside and outside of the neck portion and connected at their outer ends by a flat, annular wall overlying the outer end of the neck portion and underlying the cap, said inner wall terminating in a closed coaxially reduced thin walled rigid, centrally disposed end which underlies the inner end of the needle and is adapted to be perforated thereby when the needle is initially pressed, said needle having an inner pointed end which is housed within the end until it is initially pressed to perforate the end and the tube fitted on and supported by the rigid end of the inner wall and extending through the neck portion to the interior of the bottle.
2. Sealing means as claimed in claim 1, wherein said inner wall has a coaxially reduced tubular extension carrying said closed end which is outwardly bulged to receive the end of the tube.
3. Sealing means as claimed in claim 1, wherein a gasket is sealingly interposed between the outer end of the neck portion and the flat annular wall.
