Description

United States Patent 07 MEANS FOR CONTROLLING THE USE OF SAFETY RAZOR BLADES Henry Reinbrecht, Hamburg, Germany Application November 12, 1953, Serial No. 391,679
2 Claims. (Cl. 206-46) The invention relates to means for controlling the use of safety razor blades which render it possible and more easy to ensure that the cutting capacity of a razor blade is utilized to best advantage by changing the position of the blade in the correct sequence.
These means are able to prevent one side of the blade from being used more often than the other and as a result ensure a better and more comfortable shave.
Various suggestions have already been made to attain this object. The blades have been provided with notches, numbers, coloured markings or marks indicating the days of the week, these marks or signs being visible through apertures in the guard plate or the cover plate of the safety razor. These suggestions have, however, not given satisfactory results, firstly because the user is required to note which sign or mark was visible when he last shaved. Many of the known dispositions also present the difiiculty that, when there are a number of apertures, the user must know which window was coordinated to which sign when he last used the razor. If the names of the days of the week are used as marks, there is the additional disadvantage that the sequence will only be correct if each blade is used seven times, which is certainly not the case. Consequently the user, in order to ensure the changes being made in the correct order, had to resort to making notes. In most cases this is not done owing to forgetfulness or lack of time. Consequently it has not been possible to introduce these known arrangements.
In this respect the means according to the invention for controlling the use of safety razor blades offers a solution in that the blade wrapping is provided with sections, which are preferably perforated, bearing marks, such as numbers, which correspond to similar marks on the razor blade, which latter, when clamped in position for use, can be seen through a small viewing window or aperture in the guard plate or the cover plate which is arranged out of symmetry with one or both of the symmetry planes of the razor or the razor blade.
According to the invention, therefore, the user has a controlling means at his disposal and for this purpose the ordinary envelope-shaped protecting wrappers are used in which the cleaned and dried blade is reinserted after use to protect it from damage and the edges from corrosion. In the case of razor blades with only one cutting edge and two cutting sides, it is obvious that only one change with the numbers 1 and 2 is necessary, whereas for blades with two cutting edges and consequently four cutting sides, sections bearing the numbers 1 to 4 are provided.
The user, after a shave, need merely tear off or mark in a suitable manner the section in question, in order to know positively the next time he uses the razor which edge he must use. Users who do not have a strong beard growth and as a consequence use the same edge and side of the blade more than once can be catered to by repeating the numbers several times on additional tear-off sections on the protecting wrapper.
2,796,931 Patented June. 25, 1957 An embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is an end view of a safety razor according to the invention, i
Fig. 2 shows the same razor in front elevation, partly in section on line A-B of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 shows a razor blade bearing numbers arranged in accordance with the invention, and
Fig. 4 shows the back of a blade wrapper provided with tear-off sections in accordance with the invention.
In the drawing 1 designates the handle of the safety razor, 2 the guard plate and 3 the cover plate. As can be seen from Figs. 1 and 2, the cover plate has a circular aperture 4 which is situated non-symmetrically to both the symmetry planes of the razor.
The razor blade 5 is provided at suitable points with the numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4, one of which is always visible through the window 4 when the blade is clamped in position for use.
The blade wrapper 6, illustrated in Fig. 4, has a flap 7, the lower portion of which bears the numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4. The individual sections, each bearing a number, can be easily torn off along the perforated lines 8. It is evident that a second row of tear-off sections may also be provided.
The invention may be embodied in other forms of construction. For example, the window 4 may be provided on the edge of the cover plate 3 or in the guard plate 2, which, however, is less practical. It may also be filled with transparent material, such as plastic.
I claim:
1. Means for controlling and indicating the sequential use of a marked safety razor blade in a safety razor which includes guard and cover plates and a viewing aperture in one of said plates, said means comprising in combination, a razor blade having symmetrically arranged sequential indicia marked upon said razor blade for indicating the position of said razor blade in said safety razor through said viewing aperture, each cutting edge of said razor blade being identified by having said sequential indicia marked adjacent thereto, each of said sequential indicia marked upon said razor blade being in the approximate locus of said viewing aperture when placed in a respective position in said safety razor, and a blade wrapper including a fiap for enclosing said razor blade during non-use periods, and a plurality of marked tearoif sections on said flap of said wrapper, said marked tearoff sections having connecting borders defined by perforated lines for facilitating neat and efficient sequential removal of the next one of said sections upon use of the razor blade, the marks on said sections agreeing with the marks on said blade so that the user of the safety razor blade may sequentially place said razor blade between said plates with the indicia showing through said aperture corresponding to the next successive, unremoved tear-01f section on said blade wrapper.
2. Means for controlling and indicating the use of a marked safety razor blade in a safety razor which includes a guard plate member, a cover plate member and a viewing aperture in one of said plate members, said means comprising in combination, a razor blade having symmetrically arranged sequential indicia marked upon said razor blade for denoting relative disposition of said razor blade in said safety razor, said razor blade having each cutting edge being identified by said sequential indicia marked adjacent thereto, each of said sequential indicia marked upon said razor blade being visible through said viewing aperture when placed correspondingly in said safety razor, and a'blade wrapper for enveloping said razor blade when removed from said safety razor provided with a plurality of marked portions alongaborder of said wrapper, each of said portions having the margin thereof defined by a plurality of perforations to aid in the removal thereof from said Wrapper, the marks on said portions conforming with the marks on said blade so,that the user of said safety razor may sequentially arrange said blade between said plate members with the'correct mark showingthrough said viewing aperture in accord with the next successive unrernoved portion on said wrapper. v r 3 UNITED STATES PATENTS Smith Dec. 15, 1885 Weber July 10, 1934 Sessions Sept. 7, 1948 FOREIGN PATENTS Great Britain July 25, 1929 Sweden May 13, 1948
