Description

J1me 1957 A. H. FAGERGREN 2, 5,4
ROPE LADDER swmc Filed July 2, 1954 Aaron H. F a gergren IN VEN TOR.
United States Patent ROPE LADDER SWRNG Aaron H. Fagergren, Shelton, Wash.
Appiication July 2. 1954, Serial No. 440,982
1 Claim. (Cl. 27260) This invention relates generally to amusement and exercising devices and pertains more particularly to a com bination rope ladder swing particularly adaptable for use as a childs amusement and an exercising device.
A primary object of this invention is to provide a safe, sturdy and reliable rope ladder swing which is simple yet rugged in construction and which lends itself readily to economical manufacture.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view showing the device extended in position for use;
Figure 2 is an enlarged perspective view showing portions of the assembly shown in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an enlarged vertical section taken substantially along the plane of section line 33 in Figure 2.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, it will be seen that the construction of this device embodies the use of a pair of spaced, parallel flexible side members and 12 which are preferably constructed of rope and which are interconnected and maintained in parallelism by the cross members or rungs 14. The lowermost cross piece 16 is of elongated rectangular configuration to present a swing seat and it is to be noted that this member is connected to the side pieces 10 and 12 by means of passing the rope through suitable apertures provided in the seat and knotting the free ends of the rope with a figure eight knot as indicated by the reference numerals 18 and 20.
Each rung or cross piece 14 is preferably formed of cylindrical configuration and each is provided with a transverse bore 22 adjacent each end thereof. As illustrated most clearly in Figure 3, each of the rope members 10 and 12 is looped about its rung 14 as indicated by the portion 24 and crosses over the standing portion of the rope as at 26 and then is passed through the bore 22 as indicated by the reference character 28. In this manner,
a minimum of manipulation of the rope is required in assembling the swing while at the same time the rungs 14 are positively prevented from slipping along the rope side pieces 10 and 12 in either direction.
The rope ladder swing is suspended from a suitable overhead support by means of a support member indicated generally by the reference character 30 and which will be seen to include an elongated rectangular base 32 having a pair of spaced, depending hook members 34 and 36 rigidly secured thereto which terminate in the eye portions 38 and 40 which receive a selected one of the rungs 14 for suspending the seat 16 to the desired vertical spaced relationship with the ground or other surface. The remaining rungs that are not used are hung loosely from the hooks as indicated by the reference characters 42.
The device formed in accordance with the above presents an extremely rugged, sturdy and reliable combination rope ladder and swing which will be extremely amusing and beneficial to a child.
From the foregoing, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood and further explanation is believed to be unnecessary. However, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
In a childs exercising and amusement device, a pair of flexible side members, a plurality of cross pieces cross connecting said members at the ends thereof and intermediate said ends and adapted to be suspended above the ground by said members, and an overhead rigidly mounted support member for suspending said flexible members comprising a pair of hooks on said support member, said intermediate and one of said terminal cross pieces being selectively engageable in said hooks for connecting said flexible members to said support member and varying the height at which the other terminal cross piece is suspended from the ground, said cross pieces having transverse bores therein adjacent the ends thereof, said flexible members extending through said bores and being looped around themselves reversely at opposite sides of said intermediate cross pieces to secure the flexible members to the intermediate cross pieces.
