Description
June 4, 1957 R. VITSKY SHOWER SPRAY ABSORBER Filed July 20, 1954 ROCHELLE wrs/rr INVENTOR United States Patent 2,794,200 SHGWER SPRAY ABSORBER Rochelle Vitsky, Palm Springs, Calif. Application July 20, 1954, Serial No. 444,479 1 Claim. (Cl. 15--128) The present invention relates to shower stall appurtenances generally and specifically to a soft cloth device to attach to a shower head to absorb the greatest portion of the force of the shower spray in order that a persons coiifure may be protected from splashing water, and so that the spray flow may be conducted within a soft tube of cloth which may be handled much in the order of a wash cloth and may be soaped and applied to the body with a continuing supply of water falling or flowing through the tube.
The use of this device permits aged and ill persons to be seated within the shower stall and with the tube Wrapped loosely around an aching shoulder or neck or the like, for therapeutic relief of pain, and to be free of the annoying splashing of the shower spray.
Other uses and advantages are contemplated for the device, although the principal object of the present invention is to provide a soft resilient tube to contain the spray column from a shower head.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an easily attached collar which will fit around all known makes of shower heads.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a device which permits the adjustment of the temperature of the shower water without it splashing on the bathers body, thus eliminating a cause for annoyance in the sudden changes of the water temperatures frequently found in homes, apartment houses, and in hotels. The device of the present invention mainly prevents splash and also provides a clean, efficient way to soap and rinse the body quickly and in continually renewed fresh water.
These and other objects and advantages of the present invention will be fully apparent from the following description when considered in connection with the annexed drawings, in which:
Figure l is a plan view in elevation of the invention,
Figure 2 is a detailed view of the collar of the invention, in one of its preferred forms,
Figure 3 shows the first embodiment preferred in place on the shower head,
Figure 4 shows a second preferred embodiment.
Referring in more detail to the drawing, in which like reference numerals indicate like parts throughout the several views, the invention will be seen to consist of an elongated porous tubular cloth member having a greater length than width and being formed at one end 11 with collar 12, in the preferred embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 3, inclusive. The collar 12 has a tape 13 secured by one end 14 and provided with a snap or dome fastener 15. In use, the tape 13 wraps around the gathered-up end 11 and collar 12 and is secured around the neck of a shower head 16.
In the second preferred embodiment, rubber threads or other elastic 17 is woven or sewn into the collar 12a, and provides a quickly positioned device held snugly over the shower head 16.
In either embodiment it has been found that terry cloth makes a suitable cloth member in the forms described although it is conceivable that other porous fabrics may prove to have their own advantages, and while a generally tubular form has proven satisfactory and eflicient, other shapes may be made and used, the cloth member may be closed at one end for instance and other means of securing the cloth member to the shower head may prove to be feasible and desirable, and that while only two preferred embodiments have been here illustrated and described, other embodiments constructed within the scope and breadth of the appended claim may be practiced, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of this invention, what is claimed is:
A flow conductor, absorber and spray-stopper for draping about the human body in a shower bath comprising a substantially elongated terry cloth member, said terry cloth member being tubular in shape for conducting the water flow along the entire circumferential surface of said elongated porous member, the length of said tubular member being considerably greater than its diameter, one end of said tubular terry cloth member being open, the diameter of said open end of said tubular member being at least equal to the diameter of a shower bath spray head with which it is used, said open end being arranged to be extended over the shower bath spray head, means for constricting said open end of tubular terry cloth member about the neck of the shower bath spray head to thereby suspend said tubular terry cloth member from the shower bath spray head, the length of said porous tubular terry cloth member being sufiicient to drape about a human body therebeneath, so that, when water is flowing from the shower bath spray head, the spray water from the shower head will be entirely confined within the tubular terry cloth member and the water flow will be confined to flow along the entire suspended but unsupported circumferential surface of said tubular terry cloth member.
