Application February 10, 1955, Serial No. 487,366
1 Claim. (Cl. 223-95) This invention relates to garment hangers, and more particularly to hangers particularly constructed for hanging skirts, one of the objects of the invention being to provide means for exerting pressure on a skirt at its waist band to hold the skirt in an extended position to eliminate wrinkles.
An important object of the invention is to provide a skirt hanger which is so constructed that it may be readily and easily adjusted for supporting skirts of different sizes and wherein the waist bands are necessarily of various sizes.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a hanger for hanging skirts so that the waist band may be folded upon itself in loose loops requiring the minimum amount of space for hanging skirts in restricted areas.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a skirt hanger of this character including a main supporting rod with a pair of stationary rollers at one end thereof, and a stationary roller at the other end thereof with an intermediate adjustable roller, the skirt being positioned over the rollers in such a way that by moving the adjustable roller, the hanger may be adjusted to tightly fit within the skirt band.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of pants without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a skirt hanger constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a plan view thereof.
I Figure 3 is an end elevational view thereof.
Figure 4 is a sectional view through the main supporting rod illustrating the adjustable roller as mounted thereon.
Figure 5 is a sectional view through the eye member 5 of the adjustable roller, with the eye member positioned on the main supporting rod of the hanger.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the device comprises a main supporting rod 5. The reference character 6 indicates a substantially U-shaped rod which is secured to the main rod 5, the U-shaped rod being disposed at an oblique angle with respect to the rod 5 with the arms 7 thereof providing supports for the rollers 8.
At the opposite end of the main rod 5, is a roller 9. The reference character It} indicates an adjustable roller which is adjustable longitudinally of the main supporting rod 5, the roller 19 being mounted on the shaft 11, the eye 12 thereof which is formed at one end of the shaft 11 accommodating the main rod 5, as better shown by Figure 5 of the drawing. Thus it will be seen that due to this construction, slight tilting movement-of the roller 10 will set up a binding action between the eye member 12 and rod 5 to hold the roller it) in its positions of adjustment longitudinally of the main supporting rod 5.
It might be further stated that the rollers are provided with annular grooves 14 setting up a friction surface to prevent the skirt band from slipping from its position on the rollers.
In using the skirt hanger, the waist band of a skirt which, in the present showing, is indicated by the reference character A, is positioned over the rollers 8 and 9, as shown by Figure 2 of the drawing. The waist band of the skirt is now brought inwardly and positioned over theroller 10. Because of the slight lateral movement of the shaft 11 with respect to the rod 5, it will be obvious that a binding action will be set up when the shaft 11 is moved towards the roller 9, the Waist band A of the skirt being placed under tension to hold the skirt in position on the rollers.
When it is necessary to remove the skirt, the roller 10 will be moved towards the rollers 8, loosening the gripping action of the skirt band on the roller 10, with the result that the skirt may be readily removed from the hanger.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed A skirt hanger comprising a horizontal rod, a hook at each end of said rod, an inverted U-shaped member having the bight thereof extending over said rod adjacent one end thereof and firmly fixed to said rod, said bight being disposed at an oblique angle to the length of said rod, a roller disposed on each depending arm of said U- shaped member, a depending shaft fixed to said rod adjacent the opposite end thereof, a roller on said shaft, a second shaft, a ring fixed to said second shaft, and a roller on said second shaft, said ring slidably engaging said rod whereby to dispose said latter named roller at a predetermined position along said rod.
