A. J BEACH.
RUNNING GEAR FOR VEHICLES.
Patented June 12,1883.
PETERS. Pbom-Lilhognplur. WM, 11. a
To all whom it may concern.-
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALLEN J. BEACH, OF FLINT, MICHIGAN.
RUNNING-GEAR FOR VEHICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 279,213, dated June 12, 1883.
Application filed April 9, 188:1. (No model.)
Be it known that I, ALLEN J. BEACH, of Flint, in the county of Genesee and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Vehicle Running-Gears; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, whi ch form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the construction of running-gear for wagons, and is designed as an improvement upon a patent for a similar purpose issued to me February 28,1882, and No. 254,104.
The invention consists in the peculiarities of construction of the parts and their combination, all as more fully hereinafter described.
Figure l is a plan vie\v,and Fig. 2 is a vertical central longitudinal section.
In the accompanying drawings, wliichforni a part of this specification, A represents the axle; B, the circle; 0, the bolster support, and D the hanger, attached to the circle as described in my aforesaid Letters Patent. E is the tongue, and to this tongue are bolted the draw-bars F, one upon each side of the tongue and extending rearward, with the other opposite ends pivotally secured to the skeins G, or,
as shown in the drawings, to the shoulders of the axle near the skeins. The rear end of the tongue, projecting beyond the connection with the draw-bars, is supported between the two sides of the hanger by means of a bolt, H, which passes through a slot, 1, in the tongue, and the ears of the hanger for that purpose.
It will be seen that by this construction I produce the same result as that described in the patent above referred to, and avoid the necessity of a sliding sleeve upon the tongue,
to which the draw-bars are attached, while I preserve the beneficial features resultant from the construction described in the aforesaid Letters Patent in the position of the tongue and in the exerting force of the team directly upon the axle near its outer ends.
' What I claim as 'my inventionis The combination, with the axle A, circle B, and draw-bars F, of the tongue E, to which said draw-bars are pivotally secured, said tongue having a reciprocating motion by means of the hanger D, bolt H, and slot I, such motion being limited by the length of the slot, substantially as described.
ALLEN J. BEACH.
IVitnesses:
