UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN GIBBONS, OF WVEST TROY, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO THE UNION HARDWARE MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLAOE' FASTENING DEVICE FOR HALTERS.
' SPECIFICATION formingpartof Letters Patent No. 278,931, dated June 5, 1883.
Application filed February 26,1883. (No model.)
To whom it may concern Be it known that I, J OHN GIBBoNs, of the village of West Troy, county of Albany, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fastening Devices for Halters, of which the following is a spccifica; tion.
My invention relates to that class of devices that are used in halters to adjustably secure the rope which forms the loop or lead, so that the size of the latter may be varied.
My invention consists, as will hereinafter be more fully described, in the combination of an eye on the end of the rope, through which eye the tether end of the rope is passed to form the lead or loop, and a connected ring and hook, through which ring, near the eye end of the rope, the latter ispassed, with the hook adapted to receive and hold the rope near where passed through the eye, and thus secure it to prevent its slipping through the eye.
' Accompanying this specification, and forming a part of it, there are two plates of drawings, containing three figures illustrating my invention, with thesame designation of parts by letterreference used in all of them.
Figure l in perspective shows the lead or loop as formed with the tether end passed through the eye. Fig. 2 illustrates in another perspective the parts in the same position as shown in Fig. 1, but with the rope secured in the staying-hook. Fig. 3 illustrates in perspective a completed halter containing my improvement.
The parts of a halter and those constituting the nose loop or lead is formed, and R that from which the neck-loop is made; E, an eye on the end of the rope from which the lead or nose-loop is formed, and T the tether end of the rope.
' The letter B designates a ring, and H an offset-hook, attached to the side of the ring, the I As thus made and combined with the eye end v I of a halter, the ring E and hook H make a substantial means for forming and securing the lead or nose loop of a halter that is easily attached and. detached. As thus constructed, a very simple and efficient means of securing the loop is produced, and one that is easily connected and disconnected.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The combination of the eye having a split socket with the ring provided with hook, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth. I I
Signed at Troy, New York, this 22d day or February, 1883.
JOHN GIBBONS.
