To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NEWELL P; COWELL, of Gleveland,in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Car-Couplers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art towhich it pertains to make and usethe same.
My invention relates to car-couplers, and more particularlyto that class known as automatic car-couplers,77 that are adapted to engage with the opposite couplers when the same are brought together without the interposition of any mechanical device or endangering the life or limbs of a brakeman; and it consists in parts and combination of parts, aswill more fully hereinafter be described and claimed.

Thus the pivoted head is adapted to revolve backward until the shoulders strike the non-circular portion of the draw-bar.

What I claim is- 1. The combination, with a draw-bar, of a coupling-head pivoted to the endthereof and provided with an angular face, c, and with the straightfaces dand c2, and the spring-actuated stopv interposed between the draw-bar and coupling-head, and adapted to operate substantially as described.
2. The combination, with the draw-head B and coupling-head C, pivoted in the head of l the draw-head, of the sliding stop E, located in a recess formed between the coupler and 15 draw-head, said stop being constructed with a .orwardlyprojecting arm at its lower end and a rearwardly-projecting arm at its, upper end, and al spring located between a seat on the draw-head and the rearwardly-projecting arm zo of the sliding stop, substantially as set forth.
