OVEN-DOOR FOR COOKlNG-STOVES.

tached to the main door, and so arranged that said wicket-door can be opened to allow the contents of the oven to be examined without the necessity of opening the main door for such purpose, and thereby greatly reducing the temperature of the oven.
The improvement consists in an oven-door having a central opening, a supplemental or wicket door pivoted to the main door upon a jamb, which surrounds said opening and is raised above the general surface of the main door, so that the opening and closing ofthe wicket-door shall not rub, scratch, or abrade the surface of the main door, and thereby render it unsightly, and so thatwhen the wicketdoor is closed the whole will present the appearance of a door having a central raised panel.
The improvement also consists in providing the main door with stop-lugs having beveled inner faces, and in beveling those portion of the wicket-door which engage said lugs when saiddoor is closed, thereby holding the wicketdoor in close contact with the main door and sealing the opening in the latter.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 represents in elevation aportion of acooking-stove having an oven-door which embodies the invention. Fig. 2 shows a transverse section of the door on line as m.
A is the main door of the oven, which is hinged to the stoveor rangein the usual manner, and is provided with an opening, a, centrally located therein. Around this opening is arranged a jamb, A which is raised above the general surface of the door A, as shown in Fig. 2, to receive the supplemental or wicket door B. The door B is of comparatively small size, and may form the ornamental nameplate, as shown in Fig. 1. It is pivoted, preferably at one of its lower corners, to the door A, so as to be swung upward to a position in which it can be retained by the engagement of a stop-pin, b, Fig. 2, with the wall a of the opening a, and so as not to obstruct the entrance of light to the oven. Ifa thermometer, C, be located on the inner side of the ovendoor A, a slight opening ofthe door B will expose the same to view.
As shown in both figures of the drawings, the door A is provided with stop-lugs d, having beveled inner faces, and such portions of the edge of the door B as engage these lugs when said door is closed are also beveled, in order that the wicket-door shall be forced and held tightly against the door A when said wicket-door is closed over the opening a.
The jamb A being raised above the surrounding surface of the main door A, it will be readily seen that the opening and closing of the wicket-door B will not rub, scratch, or abrade said surface of the door A, and thereby renderit unsightly, and that when said wicketdoor is closed the oven-door as a whole will present the appearance of one having a central raised panel.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. The improved oven-door hereinbefore described, consisting of a main door, A, having an opening, a, and a jamb, A, which is raised above the surrounding surface of said door, and a wicket-door, B, pivoted to said main door and covering said opening, whereby the wicket-door may be opened and closed without rubbing or abrading the surface of the main door, which surrounds saidjamb, and the oven-door as a whole will present the appearance of one having a central-raised panel, substantially as set forth.
2. The improved oven-door hereinbefore de-' scribed, consisting of the main door A, having an opening, a, and raised jamb A,'and provided with beveled stop-lugs d, and a wicketdoor, B, pivoted to the main door, covering said opening and having its edges beveled, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
