Description

Nov. 6, 1956 J. D. LEE 2,769,586
HANGERS FOR TROUSERS Filed May 5, 1954 INVENTOR. J0 H N D L E E United States Patent Ov HANGERS FOR TROUSERS John D. Lee, Freeport, Pa. Application May 5, 1954, Serial No. 427,751 1 Claim. (Cl. 223-95) This invention relates to an improved hanger for mens trousers, and while primarily designed and intended for use. by cleaner and dyer companies prior to and upon delivery of the cleaned garment'to the customer, it will be obvious that the device is admirably adapted for use by hotels, motels, and the like, for the convenience of guests.
It is the common practice of clothes cleaners, after cleaning and pressing a pair of trousers, to drape the latter transversely of the knee area across the horizontal rod of a conventional type of coat hanger. Such suspension of the trousers invariably creates a discernible and undesirable crease across the draped flexure fold of the trousers, particularly if the trousers are stored away for prolonged periods of time while so suspended as is frequently done.
The invention contemplates among its important objects and advantages to provide a trousers hanger of the character described, which will neatly suspend the trousers at full length and thereby eliminate the liability of transversely creasing the trouser legs at the knee area, which may be readily and conveniently connected with the trousers and with a conventional type of coat hanger, which is so inexpensive in its construction that same may be discarded after having been used but once, and which aflords considerable surface area for displaying advertising matter of the using organizations.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a trousers hanger device of the class stated, which is simple in its construction and arrangement, durable and eflicient, compact, attractive in appearance, and comparatively economical in its manufacture and use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but it is to be understood that the latter is merely illustrative of a preferred embodiment of the invention, and that changes in the form, proportions and details of construction may be resorted to that come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawing wherein like numerals of reference desig nate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view, partly in section, of a trousers hanger, constructed in accordance with the invention, and illustrating the attachment of the device to a conventional type of coat hanger.
Figure 2 is an enlarged, normal end view of the trousers hanger.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary end view of the trousers hanger and showing the attachment of the latter with the trousers.
Figure 4 is a plan view of the blank used in the formation of the trousers hanger.
Figure 5 is a front elevational view of a slightly modified form of trousers hanger embodying the present invention.
The improved hanger for trousers is constructed of an integral sheet blank 1, and may be made of comparatively tough, stiff cardboard paper, plastic or composition ma- 2,769,586 Pa ented Nora 6, 1.25.6.
2. ten-als, me or a y other uit b e sheet mate ial to bes meet conditions found, in practice. blank 1 is, folded along three parallel extending lines, respectively'indicated, at 2, 3, and 4, to thereby form a pair of supporting; panels, rQSPectively indicated at 5 and 6, and a pair of; attaching panels, respectively indicated at 7 and 8 The blank 1 is rectangular in contour, and the panels 4, 5, 6, and 7 formed therefrom are all oblong rectangu larly-shapcd and are. of uniform lengths and widths. The
supporting panels 5, and 6 are folded downwardly against each other along the fold line 3, and are joined together along their p g s Th attachin pane s folded an wardly against the adjacent outer face of the supporting panel 5, and is joined with the bottom. edge Q the, latter along the fold line 2. In like manner, the. attaching panel 8 is folded upwardly against the uter face of the adjacent supporting panel 6, along the fold line 4.
It ll b a y appa e that, by fiel in e asso iated panels 5,. 7, n 8' to e he n the manner above set forth, an oblong rectangularly-shaped hanger is formed, with the top edges of the attaching panels 7 and 8 being free, and provides a structure which is substantially W- shaped in transverse section, as clearly illustrated in Figure 2.
The trousers hanger is connected with a conventional type of coat hanger 9 by simply straddling the cross rod 10 of the latter with the supporting panels 5 and 6, whereby the cross rod 10 will seat against the under face of the joined tops of the supporting panels 5 and 6. The upper corners of the supporting panels 5 and 6 are bevelled, as indicated at 11, to form a recess the walls of which act to grip the cross rod 10 and thereby diminish the tendency of the trousers hanger to slip in the longitudinal direction on the cross rod 10 from its centrally mounted position on the latter.
Trousers are connected to the trousers hanger by simply inserting respective attaching panels 7 and 8 beneath the one-half inner portion of the cuffs 12 of respective trouser legs 13, as shown in Figure 3. This is readily accomplished as the top edges of the attaching panels 7 and 8 are free and therefore may be conveniently inserted into the trouser cuffs.
As the sides of the trouser cuffs are usually stitched to the trouser legs to maintain their position against the latter, each of the attaching panels 7 and 8 is formed with a deep, centrally disposed recess 14, which extends vertically and has an open upper end, and which provides the necessary clearance for receiving the stitched attachment of the cuff with the trouser leg when the attaching panels 7 and 8 are inserted into the trouser cuffs. The upper ends of the side walls of the recesses 14 are preferably rounded, as indicated at 15, to facilitate the entrance of the stitched attachment of the cuffs into the recesses 14.
A centrally disposed, longitudinally extending slot 16 is formed in the top juncture of the supporting panels 5 and 6 to allow the attachment of the trousers hanger in other ways to a coat hanger or to various other types of suspension elements than by straddling the cross rod 10 of a coat hanger in the manner stated. As shown in dot and dash lines in Figure 1, the trousers hanger may be attached to the coat hanger 9 by passing the upper portion of the latter through the slot 16. Further, as shown in Figure 5, the trousers hanger may be employed in connection with a special suspension element comprising a hook 17, which is attached to the center of a horizontally extending cross bar 18 having upturned ends 19 and engaging beneath and the ends of the top juncture of the supporting panels 5 and 6.
As shown in Figure 5, the fold of the attach- ing panels 7 and 8 with the bottom edges of respective supporting panels 5 and 6, may be reenforced by means of staples 20, which extend through respective supporting and atreenforcing means will minimize the spread of the attaching panels from the supporting panels due to the weight pul 1 o f the trousers suspended from the attaching panels;
constructionofthe device. v a
It will heref-be noted that, the outer exposed surfaces ofthe attaching panels -7 and 8 provide considerable available area, which-obviously may be utilized for displaying printed advertising matter'or the like appertaining to the business of the person or organization in any way using or distributing the improved trousers hanger.
' The present invention p'rovides'a most eflicient device of its kind, .which may be economically constructed and siuccessfullyj'employed for the purpose and in the manner herein set forth. 1
