3 Claims. (Cl. 2-67) This invention relates to a method for making a ladys bathing suit.
An object of the present invention is to provide a method for making a ladys bathing suit in which the crotch piece is wholly concealed while being worn by a bather.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a method for making a ladys bathing suit which is simple in execution, and commercially feasible.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a method for making a ladys bathing suit which lends itself to adaptation to the body of the bather, and which is highly distinctive in appearance.
Other and further objects and advantages will become apparent from the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is an exploded view of the parts constituting the ladys bathing suit of the present invention except the back and brassiere parts.
Figure 2 is a view of the front understructure comprising the central panel having the crotch piece attached to the lower end with a connecting piece projecting from each side edge of said panel adjacent the lower end.
Figure 3 is a view showing the understructure of Figure 2 attached to the assembled front and side panels of the exterior structure, the assembly being partially turned to illustrate the securement of the side panels and front panel of the exterior structure to the central panel of the understructure.
Figure 4 is a view of the assembly of Figure 3 reversed and in a flat position, and having the skirt of the exterior structure attached thereto.
Figure 5 is a view of the assembly of Figure 4 with the back of the exterior structure attached to the front of such structure and the skirt in final position.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary view of the upper part of the structure of Figure 5 reversed with the brassiere portion attached to such part.
Figure 7 is a front view of the completed bathing suit of the present invention applied to a form.
Figure 8 is an enlarged sectional view taken on the line 83 of Figure 7.
Figure 9 is a sectional view taken on the line 9-9 of Figure 7, and V Figure 10 is a partial front view of the completed bathing suit of the present invention showing a modified structure of the skirt.
Referring to Figure l of the drawings, the left-hand blocked portion indicates the front exterior structure A of the ladys bathing suit of the present invention and the right-hand blocked portion indicates the front understructure B of the suit of the present invention. The front exterior structure A comprises a front panel 10, side panels 11 and 12, and a skirt forming piece 13. The front understructure B includes a central panel 15, an extension 16, connecting pieces 17 and 18, and a crotch piece 19.
in the method of the present invention for making a ladys bathing suit, the front understructure B is first formed. This is done by attaching one end of the extension 16 to the lower end of the central panel 15. The extension 16 has its other end provided with an inwardly extending notch 29 to which is attached the edge 21 of the crotch piece 19. The connecting piece 17 is arranged on one side of the extension 16 adjacent the lower end thereof and is attached to the adjacent side edge of the extension. The other connecting piece 18 is arranged on the opposite side of the extension 16 adjacent the lower end thereof and is likewise attached to the adjacent side edge of the extension. The resulting front understructure is shown in Figure 2.
One of the side panels, or panel 11 of the exterior structure A, is next superimposed upon the front panel 10 of said exterior structure, so that one side edge of the front panel 10 is adjacent to one side edge of the side panel 11. The front understructure B is then placed upon the front panel 10 of the exterior structure A, so that the front face of the central panel 15 of the understructure is in contact with the front panel 10 of the exterior structure and one of the side edges of the central panel 15 is adjacent to the said one side edge of the front panel 10, whereupon the side edges of the side panel 11 and front panel 10 of the exterior structure and of the central panel 15 of the understructure are stitched together, as indicated by the line 22. Next, the one side edge of the other side panel, or panel 12 of the exterior structure, is stitched to the other side edges of the assembled front panel 10 of the exterior structure and the central panel 15 of the understructure to thereby form the assembly as depicted in Figure 3. It is to be noted that the lower end of the side panels 11 and 12 and the front panel 10 of the exterior structure are adjacent to and spaced above the connecting pieces 17 and 18 of the understructure, as clearly shown in Figure 3.
The assembly of Figure 3 is then opened out, whereupon it is reversed, so that the front panel 10 of the exterior structure has the front face on the front and then laid flat. The skirt forming piece 13 is next folded upon itself along the fold line 23, Figure 1, and the folded over skirt piece is placed transversely upon the front face of the assembled side panels 11 and 12 and the front panel 10 of the exterior structure A, so that the lower one of the transverse edges of the folded skirt piece is in alignment with the lower edges of the aforesaid assembled panel of the exterior structure. The aligned lower transverse edge of the folded skirt piece 13 and the assembled side panels Hand 12 and the front panel 10 of the exterior structure A are then stitched together as indicated by the line 24, Figure 4. At this point, the attached skirt piece 13 is folded downwardly, so that it covers the lower end portion of the extension 16 of the central panel 15 of the understructure and the connecting pieces 17 and 18, whereupon the back 25 is placed upon the front assembly of Figure 4, so that the front face is in contact with the front face of the assembled panels 11 and 12, the central panel 10, and the skirt piece 13, and then each of the end edges of the skirt piece 13, the free end edges of the connecting pieces 17 and 18, and the side panels 11 and 12 of the exterior structure are sewed to the adjacent edges of the back 25 as indicated by the numerals 26 and 27. The other end of the crotch piece 19 is then stitched, as indicated by the numeral 28, to the adjacent portion of the back 25 to thereby form leg receiving openings, as indicated by the numerals 29 and 30. This results in the assembly as depicted in Figure 5.
The assembly of Figure 5 is then turned over, so that the back face of such assembly is in the front, whereupon a brassiere assembly 31 is secured to the top of such assembly or more specifically, to the side panels 11 and 12 of the exterior structure and the front panel of the exterior structure and the central panel of the understructure. This results in a ladys bathing suit as depicted in Figure 7.
In place of the skirt piece 13 being in one piece, as
shown in Figures 4 and 5, such piece may be made of a s,
plurality of sections. As illustrated in Figure 10, the skirt piece 35 is made up of three sections 36, 37 and 38 secured together in end to end relation, the section 36 being of a width to conform to that of the side panel 11 of the exterior structure A, the section 37 being of a H width to conform to that of the front panel 10, and the tractive in appearance, and lends itself readily to the applications to the body of the bather.
Having thus described the invention, What is new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
