Description

(No Model.)
H. F. OSBORNE.
GREASING WEEEL. No. 275,848. Patented Apr. 17,1883.
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY F. OSBORNE, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
CREASlNG-WHEEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 275,848, dated April 17, 1883.
Application filed September 9, 1885!.
following specification and the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the same.
This invention consists in the combination, as claimed, of devices for marking stitches and for cutting a strap parallel with the creased outline in the same wheel with a plain creasing edge or die. Its construction will be understood by reference to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an edge view of the wheel with its flanges. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same with part of one flange broken away, and Fig. 3 is a plan of a strap creased, marked for stitching, and partly cut off at one edge, parallel with the creasing-marks at that side.
A is the ordinary creasing-edge, shown of waved outline, as is usual in wheels for ornamenting harness-straps, to which my invention is chiefly applicable. Y
B is an auxiliary edge formed adjacent thereto, and provided with stitch-marking projections, by which a row of stitchiugist'ormed or marked out on the strap parallel with the applied another device, in combination with those already described, for cutting the leather outside of the row of stitching and parallel thereto, by the mere rotation of the wheel when creasing. This consists in a knife-edge,
' 0, formed upon the same or a separate wheel (No model.)
from the edges A and B, and clamped therewith between the fianges D D. The edge 0, being made parallel with the others, severs the others while marking the leather, as indicated at one side of the strap shown in Fig. 3. The creasing-wheel would be preferably formed with cutting-edges O at each side when used for trimmingthe leather, as described, and the trimmed straps could then be stitched upon any other piece for ornamentingthc same. The edge Bis shown in the drawings as of greater diameter than the creasing-edge A, for the purpose of forming the teeth upon the former by the application of a broad cylindrical revolving kuurling-tool. This is the most economical method of forming the teeth shown upon B, but cannot be employed when the knife-edge O is made integral with the others.
Having described the operation of my invention, it will be seen that the mode of its construction is immaterial, provided the various parallel edges are secured thereby.
I claim as follows:
1. The combination, in a creasing-wheel, ot' the plain-wave edge A and the knurled-wave edge B, parallel thereto, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination, in a creasing-wheel, of the plain-wave edge A and the knurled-wave edge B, the latter being formed of greater di-' ameter than the former, for the purpose herein described.
3. The combination, in a creasing-wheel, of a plain edge, a knurled edge, and a cutting or trimming edge, the three being arranged parallel to one another, and operated substantially as herein described.
In testimony whereot'l have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
H. F. OSBORNE.
