Description

7, 1956 K. L. KENDIG 2,757,791
PACKAGING 0F GLOVES Filed July 25, 1955 IN V EN TOR. MR4 4 A ENDIG firm/ways PACKAGING F GLOVES Karl L. Kendig, 'Coshocton, Ohio, assignor to Edmont Manufacturing Company, Coshocton, @hio, a corporation of Ohio Application July 25, 1955, Serial No. 523,969
3 Claims. (Cl. 20646) The present invention is for an improved manner of packaging gloves for display and handling.
As is of course well known, it has been common practice to display gloves in a loose manner upon the counter of a retail store; and it has also been common practice for a prospective customer to try on the gloves, with unavoidable soiling of the same. When the gloves have been removably placed in containers for the sake of protection, they have been often removed from the container by the customer and then dropped upon the counter without replacing them within the container. It is of course considered proper fora customer to try on a glove in order to satisfy himself as to size and feel of the glove and thus this situation has proved quite a problem since the handling of certain grades or classes of gloves by the customer in such manner means considerable soiling of the same and hence a decided loss to the merchant who is caused also the trouble of replacing the gloves in their containers.
Accordingly it is the object of my present invention to devise a manner of packaging a pair of gloves so that they may be fully observed by the customer and may also be tried on by him in order to determine the com-' bined question of size and feel, but without removing the gloves from their container.
Other objects will appear from the following description and claims when considered together with the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view illustrating the manner in which a pair of gloves may be placed and held Within a transparent container according to my present invention;
Fig. 2 is an end View of the same;
Fig. 3 is a view taken on line 33 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
It is to be understood that the present form of disclosure is merely for the sake of illustration and that there might be devised various modifications thereof without departing from the spirit of my invention as herein set forth and claimed.
In the form of invention illustrated in the accompanying drawing, the transparent container 1 of suitable material, as for instance plastic, may be open at one end thereof, the closed end thereof being indicated by reference numeral 1a. Of course the container in any case will be of proper size to accommodate the gloves that are to be placed therein and to permit the manner of use to be hereinafter explained.
In the present illustration I have shown glove A placed within the container 1 in such manner as to have its open or wrist end at the open end of the container, While glove B is arranged in the reverse manner so as to have its wrist end at the closed end of the container 1. The means for securing the gloves A and B within the container, in the present illustration, consists of a folded semi-rigid card-board tab or tag which may have its one part 2a extended upon the outside of the container and stapled or otherwise suitably secured at 3 to the container 1 aired States Patent 0 and to one side of the wrist portion of the glove A; while the other part 21; of the tag extends within the open or wrist end of the glove A. In this way, as will be observed, not only is glove A secured within the container but such positioning of the tag serves also to hold the glove B within the container. Furthermore, glove A occupies such position within the container 1 that its palm side faces outwardly; which means that glove A, in the present illustration, is for the right hand while glove B is for the left hand.
In case it should be found to be necessary or advisable, the container 1 may be made of bellows-like 0r accordionlike form on the sides thereof so as to accommodate the insertion of the hand of the customer in a comfortable manner.
Upon the outside surface of part 2a of the tag there may be printed the size of the glove and any other information as to its style or quality as well as any advertising matter.
Thus with my present invention a pair of gloves may be displayed in the transparent container and can be handled without danger of soiling. That is, the customer may insert his one hand fully into the glove A so as to try it on for size and feel and yet without removing the glove from the container. By having the container of flexible material, as in my present invention, the customer may bend his hand after inserting it within the glove A so as to still further obtain an idea as to the feel of the glove upon his hand. With my present invention, the gloves remain protected from soil to which they would otherwisebe subjected and the merchant is not required to replace the gloves in the container. This manner of handling the gloves is thought to constitute a marked improvement upon the old practice and likewise the present invention is thought to add to the appearance and hence the sales appeal of the gloves when on display. Not only is this invention of an inexpensive character but it is calculated to prove a decided saving in the value of the gloves and in the labor incident to handling the same.
What I claim is:
l. A package comprising a transparent flexible container having an open end, and a glove enclosed within said container with its wrist end at the open end of said container, and means for securing the glove within said container with the interior of the glove open to the insertion of the hand thereinto through the open end of said container, said container being sufficiently larger than the glove so as to permit insertion of the hand fully into the glove.
2. A package comprising a transparent flexible container having an open end, and a pair of gloves enclosed within said container and with the wrist end of one of said gloves at the open end of said container, and means for securing the gloves within said container with the interior of one of the gloves open to the insertion of the hand thereinto through the open end of said container, said container being sufficiently larger than the gloves so as to permit insertion of the hand fully into the one glove.
3. A package comprising a transparent flexible container having an open end, and a pair of gloves enclosed within said container and with the wrist end of one of said gloves at the open end of said container, and means for attaching one side of the wrist portion of one of said gloves to said container with the interior of the glove open to the insertion of the hand through the open end of said container, the other of said gloves being located between the container wall and the side of the said one glove that is attached to said container, said container being sufficiently larger than the gloves to permit insertion of the hand fully into the one glove.
