Description
UNITED STATES.
PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES LASSEN, OF RAOINE, WISCONSIN.
SAFETY QUILT-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 275,671, dated April 10, 1883. 3 Application filed March 1,1883. No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES Lassen, of Racine, in the county of Racine, and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Quilt-Holders; and I do hereby declare th at the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to devices especially designed to secure a quilt upon a bed so that a child cannot throw off the covering in his sleep; and it consists in certain peculiarities of construction and method of attachment, as will be more fullyset forth hereinafter.
In the drawings, Figure l is a representation of my device in use, and Fig. 2 is a view of said device detached from the quilt and bedstead.
A is aframe, preferably of triangular shape, made of leather or other suitable material, and provided with the series of small perforations a a, as shown. To this frame is secured the loop B, and this loop may carry a ring, B, for the more ready attachment of the snap-hook O. D is a short chain, one end of which is secured to the snap-hook 0, while the other end is attached to the clamp E, or to a ring, d, passed over said clamp, as shown. The clamp E carries a set-screw, e, or analogous stead.
In practice two of these devices are employed, and the frame A of each holder is stitched to the upper part of the quiltor spread near its side edges, as shown in Fig. 1, this being easily accomplished by reason of the small perforations a a already named. This being done and the quilt put upon the bed, the clamp E, with the chains and snap-hooks attached, are securely fastened to the side rails means for securing it to the side rail of a bed-- of the bedstead. Then, after the child has been'put to bed,the snap-hooks 0 are secured to the rings or loops which are attached to the frame A, and the quilt will be held securely in place, no matter how restless the child may he, while at the same time the attachment will be sufficiently flexible to prevent the quilt from pressing too tightly upon the childs hotly, and thus causing injury thereto.
I have shown a double snap-hook in the drawings; but it will be apparent that I may modify the construction of this part or of the other parts without departing from the spirit of my invention. For instance, the frame A might be attached to the quilt by other means than stitching; but I regard that as the safest, cheapest, and most desirable form of attachment.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1'. A safety-holder for quilts, bedspreads, &o., consisting of a frame capable of attachment thereto, and provided with a detachable chain and clamp for securing the latter to the bedstead, substantially as set forth.
2. The frame A, having the perforations a a for enabling it to be stitched to a quilt, and provided with a loop or ring at one end, in combination with the clamp E, chain D, and snap-hook O, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand on this 2d day of January, 1883, in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES LASSEN.
