4 Claims. (Cl. 132-126) This invention relates to combs, and the main object is the provision of a comb having certain novel and useful features of construction and operation whereby it aids to maintain the waves or curls set in the hair after a hairdressers treatment thereby prolonging the benefits of the hairdressing, and whereby it also aids in restoring the hair or freshening it up, toward reestablishment of the hair set as it was immediately following the hairdressing.
The above broad as well as additional and more spe` cie objects will be clariiied in the following description wherein characters of reference refer to like-numbered parts in the accompanying drawing. lt is to be noted that the drawing is intended solely for the purpose of illustration and that it is therefore neither desired nor intended to limit the invention necessarily to any or all of the exact details of construction shown or described except insofar as they may be deemed essential to the invention.
Referring briefly to the drawing, Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a comb embodying the features of the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the said comb.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4 4 of Fig. l.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral indicates the body or frame of the comb including the handle 11, both of which may of course be of any suitable or desired shape or conguration. Merely for convenience and clarity in describing the comb, the side 12 will hereinafter be referred to as the front of the frame, and the side 13 will be referred to as the rear of the frame.
The frame 10 has a bottom edge 14 which is flat, straight and continuous; however, the rear edge of the bottom 14 is provided with a bevel 15. The intermediate portion of the frame for a distance of about one-third the length of the frame, is provided with straight teeth, 16, except for the outermost teeth 16a which are slightly curved with their concave sides towards the straight teeth between them. lf desired, the next-to-the-outermost teeth might also be curved, but with a smaller degree of curvature than the teeth 16a, not shown. The front surfaces of the teeth 16 are tlush with the front surface 12 of the frame, as shown.
At the ends of the frame, each over approximately one-third the length of the frame, oppositely curved groups of teeth 17 are provided, extending downward from the beveled edge and lying in a plane approximately parallel with the plane of the teeth 16. The lengths of the teeth in each group 17 successively inate r"ce
crease in a direction outward toward the end of the frame, so that the outermost teeth 17a thereof are the longest. The innermost teeth 17b of these two groups are substantially of the same length as the teeth 16. lt is to be noted that all of the curved teeth of the comb have the concave side of the curve facing toward the midpoint of the frame.
A comb constructed as above described is particularly suitable for hair that has been artificially waved as well as for naturally wavy hair, in that the curved teeth, especially the end groups 17, tend to bunch the hair and permit easy guiding of the comb along the wave of the hair, whereas the common straight-toothed comb tends to straighten out all the waves and thus tends to destroy the waves. The shorter straight teeth 16 lead the curved teeth 17 as the comb is drawn forward, without going deep enough into the hair to tend to straighten out a wave, yet it helps to rearrange and put in order loose strands of hair. Other and additional beneficial effects are attained by this comb.
l claim:
l. A comb including a substantially liat frame having a straight bottom edge, a plurality of straight teeth lying in a common plane positioned intermediate the length of the frame extending downward from said bottom edge at right angles thereto, and two groups of curved teeth extending downward' from said bottom edge and lying in a common plane spaced from and approximately parallel with said first-named plane, each of said groups being positioned at the ends of the frame and extending over approximately one-third of the length of the frame, said curved teeth having the concave sides thereof facing toward the midpoint of the frame.
2. The comb set forth in claim 1, said straight teeth all having substantially the same length, the lengths of said curved teeth in each of said groups successively increasing in a direction outward toward the ends of the frame.
3. The comb set forth in claim l, additionally having curved teeth of substantially the same length as said straight teeth extending downward from said bottom edge in said first-named plane and positioned adjacent the outermost of said straight teeth, said additional curved teeth having a degree of curvature less than that of the innermost teeth of said groups of curved teeth.
4. A comb including a frame having a bottom edge, straight teeth extending downwardly from said bottom edge intermediate the length of the frame, and a group of curved teeth extending downward from said bottom edge at the ends of said frame, the innermost of said curved teeth being positioned closely adjacent the outermost of the straight teeth.
