SPIEGEIELTGATZON part of Iilleboers lieisent No. 275,453, dated April 10, 1883.
Application filed December 23, (N0 model.)
hem it may concern:
Be it known than I, ELK ANDERSON, a. citiiltates, aesiiling' at Carpentersfvills, in the county of Putnam and State ofilndiana, hnve inseniecl new and useful Straw-Smoker, Whieli the following is speoifieetion, i'eferenee being to the seems pnnying sir-nu v ven'iion relates to ninenlnes forstuokit n improve- T le esesiliell, and. particur operation. eeiion l e tending sing, E, which is firmly an -ll perms nently bolted upon the seer enel of he or coupling-liar. The plate D, which is fitted on top of the axle, is SQG-lllfiil to the latter detachably by means of bolts and nuts F G, as shown. T 1e endsof plnie l) have renrn'nrlllyprojecting arms or lugs H H.
Mounted centrnllyunon the piste D is El vertlcnl shaft or upright, Lupon hioh is secured, by means of a. set-screw, J, a sleeve, K, nosinig n laterally-projecting am: or bracket, L, M, carrying st its \outer end a bend-wheel or pulley, N, and at its inner end a ninion or bevel gear, 0, meshingxwith. a gear-Wheel, P, f resell upon or attaohod to the under sine of ilztuni or pulley, Q, mounted upon the vertical shaft or upright I, and. hujvin an annular downsmelly-projecting flange, Rheeting upon the arm r bracket L, upon which. the drum or pulls" Q; is thus supported. The said drum or pulley is provided at its lower encl, above its toothed portion, with a flange, S. Another corresponding flange, T, is formed upon a sleeve, U, secured upon the shaft l, above thesairlclrum, hymeans of u set-screw, V, [Th6 fiangesserve to confine the driving-below upon ehe l lllllfiy,
shaft, A one end of Whinl'. has a. pulley, B
connected by a belt, U, with the pulley N upon ilie shaft M.
D is llie trough or box forming the body of the sti'nmearrier, and consisting of two sectime, T9 E suitably singed together in such a manner as to he eunslile of folding one over the other when the le /"ice is not in use, The front or laser seetion oi" the carrier-ls hinged, as shown, upon the transverse shaft A A suitable carrying belt or apron is provides, which runs upon pulleys or guirles upon the shaft A Mll upon a. shaft, F mounted. a; the rear end the upper or rear section of the stacker.
G is a leiied. or lien-sped bracket hinged or pivoted to the under side of the front section, E oi the stacker, and ierminsting in segmental toothed am: or reek, H.
P is s bracket pi'ojeetlng reurwardlyfrom the sleeve K, and normed with upwardlyprojeeting arms J forming hearings for a transverse shell, having a pinion, L engaging the rash: l 'nioh slides bet-ween the arms J. The slum l is also provided with a crank, M by which it; he conveniently turned, and lb has n. ratchet-Wheel, N engaging a. or lletenl, 0 pivoted to the side of one of the arms J for the purpose of preventing the shaft froniiui'ning back after being adjusted to the desired position,
The operstionofniyinvention will be readily understood from the foregoin description, talien in connection with, line drawings hereto annexed. The stacker is extended foropera tion to the position shown in Fig. 1 of the by means of the belt or band W, to the drumor pulley Q, which, through the gear-wheel P, pinion 0, pulley N, and belt 0', communicates motion to the shaft A of the carrying-apron.
By-loosening the set-screws J and Y, the carrier may be'turned upon the shaft I to any desired-position.
When the machine is to be moved from one place to another it maybe folded, as shown in Fig. 2, by detaching the bolts and nuts F G, and tilting the hinged plate 1), with the shaft 1 and its attachments, forwardly until the said shaft rests between the arms A A of a bracket, B, secured, as shown, to the coupling-bar. The carrier, which has been previously folded, will then be held securely between the arms or lugs 11 II of the plate D.
' detachably thereto, the upright or shaft I, se-
cured to said plate, the folding carrier mounted upon said shaft or upright, and the -wing E, hinged to plate D and attached permanently to the transporting-frame, as set forth.
2. In a straw-stacker, the combination of the transporting-frame, the shaft or upright mounted upon the same, the sleeve secured by a set-screw upon the said shaft and having laterally-prowl" arms, a shaft journaled in the latter, a nd-wheel, a belt connecting said band-wheel with the carrier-shaft, a pinion at the inner end of said shaft, and edriving-pulley journaled upon the vertical shaft and provided with teeth meshing with said pinion, as set forth.
3. The combination, with the sleeve mounted upon the vertical shaft, the shaft journaled in the laterally-projecting arm of the same, and a pinion on said shaft, of the flanged pulley mounted upon said vertical shaft and having a downwardly-projecting annular flange, by which it is supported upon the said sleeve, substantially as set forth.
4. The combination of the transportingframe, the vertical shaft or upright, the carrier swiveled to'the upper end of the latter, a hinged forked bracket terminating in a curved ruck, a sleeve mounted upon the said upright and provided with a rearwardly-extending bracket, a pinion engaging said rack, and means, substantially as described, for communicating motion to the apron of the carrier, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto edited my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ELI ANDERSON.
