(Cl. 299-1071) This invention relates to a device provided on injectors, more particularly those in which the injected fuel spray is directed not co-axially with the nozzle axis but at an angle therewith, and therefore requires an accurate rotational position of the nozzle relative to the cylinder.
The invention has as one of its objects to provide a nozzle body and/or nozzle holder designed to enable an accurate rotational position of the nozzle to be obtained with as simple means as possible and without the use of additional parts whenever possible, and faulty installation thereof to be safetly avoided.
Consequently, one feature of the invention is a nozzle body of such asymmetrical design and, particularly, one provided with such asymmetrical guide faces or flats, as to prevent the nozzle from fitting in the nozzle holder and casing, respectively, even if it is swiveled through 180 from its correct position.
The present invention can be applied to both single-hole and rnulti-hole nozzles.
Further objects and features of the invention will appear in the following description of a few embodiments of the invention described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a sectional view of the arrangement of an injector according to the invention which has been fitted in a cylinder head;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the nozzle holder as taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 3;
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view as taken on the line 33 in Fig. l; and
Fig. 4 is a horizontal section through another embodiment of the nozzle locking device.
Referring to Fig. 1, a nozzle holder 11 is screwed into a threaded hole in the cylinder head and is locked in its rotational position, as by a screw 12. Introduced into the nozzle holder 11 from the top thereof is theinjection nozzle 13 which is secured to the holder by means of a cap nut 14. In order to prevent the nozzle 13 from to tating in its holder 11, that is, in order to lock the same in its rotational position, the nozzle is flattened at 16 and 17 on its upper cylindrical flanged portion, the flats being spaced different distances a and b, respectively, from the center plane x-x which goes through the nozzle axis in a plane parallel to the flats. The sleeve-shaped nozzle holder 11 has at its upper end two segment-shaped lugs 18 and 1.9 which are spaced a corresponding distance apart and are formed by what remains if a center passage is milled eccentrically through the upper end of the nozzle holder. Therefore, the nozzle can be fitted in the nozzle holder only in the position shown.
In the embodiment according to Fig. 4, the nozzle 13 is provided with special lugs 20 and 21 which are in clawlike engagement with corresponding claw- like lugs 22, 23 on the nozzle holder.
What I claim is:
1. An injector unit, comprising a nozzle body formed at least partially as a rotational solid, two opposed flats in said nozzle body adjacent the rotational solid, said flats being asymmetrical relative to the nozzle axis and parallel thereto and to each other and serving as stopping faces, a nozzle holder at least partially encasing said nozzle body, a transverse slot crossing said nozzle holder, said slot corresponding in width to the spacing of the said flats and being equally asymmetrical relative to the nozzle axis as said flats in such manner as to enable the inner surfaces of the slot to be used as opposing stopping faces in relation to said stopping faces, the nozzle body being unable to enter the nozzle holder except in a predetermined rotational position thereof.

An injector unit as claimed in claim 1, wherein the nozzle body is provided with a flange thereon, said flange being generally of cylindrical shape but being flattened on opposing sides thereof adjacent said flats, and wherein the opposing stopping faces formed on the nozzle holder by the slot are provided by the remaining segment-shaped portions of one end of the nozzle holder.

An injector as claimed in claim 2, comprising a thread on the nozzle holder of larger diameter than said segment-shaped remaining portions, and. a cap nut having a thread thereon which corresponds to said thread and a face abutting axially against the flange on the nozzle body, said cap nut being adapted to press the nozzle body axially against the nozzle holder by the threaded engagement thereof with the first-named thread.
4. An injector unit as claimed in claim 1, comprising a casing, a threaded hole therein to receive the nozzle holder and a locking member by which the nozzle holder is locked in a predetermined rotational position relative to the casing.
