CULTIVATOR.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 275,260, dated April 3, 1883.

Application filed December 2, 1882.

I0 all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM H. PENNOCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mermaid, in the county of New Castle and State of Delaware, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cultivators; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

Figure l of the drawings is a side view of my cultivator. Fig. 2 is a top or plan view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a side View of the draftheam detached from the cultivator.

My invention relates to cultivators; and it consists in constructing and applying in that class of cultivators arranged for lateral adjustment a locking-latch 0t peculiar form and qualities, as hereinafter described and claimed.

Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, a designates the draft-beam, the front end of which is provided with a clevis, b, and the rear end of which is provided with the cross-arms c and c, secured thereto by a rivet, 11, passed through a vertical eye, 0, formed thereon. It is obvious that this latch is adapted for use in other portions of the cultivator for example, in fastening the adjustable plow-standards to the cultivator side beams.

These shanks or standards are also perforated at their upper ends, and corresponding perforations are made in their respective beams for the reception of wooden break-pins, which are intended to permit the standards to yield when the plows meet with an obstruction thatwould otherwise cause them to be broken. The lower ends of the standards are perforated from front to rear to receive the bolts by which the cultivator blades or plows are secured thereto. These plows or teeth 1 are made with double points that is to say, they are nearly elliptical or diamond shape in edge outline, and are c0ncavo-convex in surface outline, so that when in place on the standards they will conform to the curves of the latter. When one ofthe points has been worn away by use the plow may be reversed by withdrawing the bolt, turning the point that has been uppermost down, and again replacing the bolt.

This construction presents a cheap, simple, and durable cultivator.
