Application August 4-, 1954, Serial No. 447,717
2 Claims. (Cl. 2--37) This invention relates to girdles and pantie girdles, more particularly for womens wear.
A basic object of this invention is to provide, in garments of the kind hereinafter described, a means whereby an uplifting and supporting effect may be obtained on the lower portions of the buttocks of the wearer and whereby such effect may be had through an even distribution of the pull or supporting functions of certain specially located bands of elastic material, without interference of the latter with a smooth snug fit of the garment at the waistband portion thereof.
In the formation of womens garments of the foundation type which are formed to confine the figure it is the practice to use fabric having either a two-way stretch, or a one-way stretch, or to combine the two-way and oneway stretch fabrics. It is an object of this invention .to provide a combination girdle and pantie having front and rear panels of the one-way stretch characteristic with side panels of the two-way stretch characteristic and with elastic reinforcing bands secured to the side panels and extending rearwardly and downwardly from the mid-portion of the front panel to the lower portion of the rear panel. The inclined reinforcing bands produce an uplifting of the buttocks of the wearer and effect a flattening thereof, as well as a flattening of the stomach.
Another object of this invention is to provide a garment of this type wherein the upper portion of the garment is formed with a two-way stretch from the edges of the front panel entirely around the back.
A further characteristic of this garment is in the disposing of upwardly divergent stays in the upper portions of the side panels with a pair of short stays secured in the side edges of the front and rear panels adjacent the upper portion thereof. The stays eliminate any tendency for the upper portion of the garment to bulge or wrinkle, so that the body lines will be entirely smooth.
A further characteristic of this garment is in the placement of angularly related elastic bands having a one-way stretch lengthwise thereof which has the effect of dividing the two-way stretch side panels into a series of connected panels each having an individual or independent confining characteristic.
With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the arrangement, combination and details of construction disclosed in the drawings and specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
ln the drawings, wherein there is shown a preferred embodiment of this inventive concept:
Figure 1 is a front view of the pantie girdle of the instant invention;
Figure 2 is a rear view thereof;
Figure 3 is a side elevational view thereof;
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary view of a constructional detail;
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken substantially along the line 55 of Figure l as viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows;
States Patent" Fatented July 3, 1956 Fig. 6 is a sectional view taken substantially along the line 6-6 of Figure 1, as viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows;
Figure 7 is a sectional view taken substantially along the line 7-7 of Figure 3, as viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows; and
Figure 8 is a sectional view taken substantially along the line 88 of Figure 2, as viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views of the drawing.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, the garment of the instant invention comprises a front panel 10 tapered at top and bottom as indicated at 11 and 12, respectively, and a rear panel 13. Panels 10 and 13 are comprised of elastic material characterized by a one-Way stretch in a vertical direction, there being no horizontal elastic characteristic in these two panels.
Side panels 15 of completely elastic material, that is, elastic both vertically and'horizontally, are provided and connect front panel 10 and rear panel 13. Inserts 16 are stitched to the lower portion 12 of the front panel and the lower portions of the side panels, preferably by zigzag stitching, as indicated at 20, the under edges of the adjacent pieces being reverted to provide a smoother joint, as indicated at 20a (see Figure 6). The lower portion of the garment is provided with a crotch piece 21 of inelastic material, and the leg portions thus formed are provided With elastic bands 22 to which garter members 23 may be attached if desired.
While the garment described is defined as a pantie girdle, it will be understood that the crotch piece 21 and bands 22 may be omitted if desired and a conventional girdle thus provided.
Each side panel 15 is reinforced by an elastic band 25 which is secured as by zigzag stitching 26 to the inner side of the elastic side panel and which extends from a mid-point of front panel 10 to a point adjacent the lowermost portion of rear panel 13.
A second reinforcing band 27 extends from the midpoint of the front panel 10 upwardly to a V-shaped insert 28 in the center of the top portion of each side panel 15, the bands 27 being secured interiorly of the side panels 15 as by means of zigzag stitching 29. Each of V-shaped inserts 23 is provided interiorly, as best shown in Figure 4, with a pair of intersecting non-elastic pockets 30 adapted for the reception of stiffening members 31, to impart a degree of rigidity to the garment at the upper extremity of the sides thereof.
An additional elastic band 32 extends from each V- shaped portion 28 downwardly and rearwardly to the lower portion of rear panel 13, the band 32 being secured to the side panel 15 by means of zigzag stitching 33.
The upper portion 11 of front panel 10 is provided, along the juncture of its diverging edges with the adjacent side panels 15, with inelastic pocket members 35 containing stiffeners or stays 36 to impart a degree of rigidity to the upper front portion of the garment (see Figure 5).
Above the top of rear panel 13, which it is to be noted, is shorter than the adjacent side panels 15, there is provided a rectangular insert 37, provided at the juncture of its sides with the side panels 15 with inelastic pockets 38 which contain stiffening elements 39 similar to the elements 31 and 36. The insert 38 is hand stitched as indicated at 40 to the adjacent portions of side panels 15 and rear panel 37.
A reinforcing elastic band 41 (see Figure 4) is secured as by zigzag stitching 42 about the entire top of the garment.
From the foregoing, it will now be seen that there is herein provided an improved girdle which serves to retain the figure of the wearer and which evenly distributes the pull for the supporting-function of the garment by virtue of the-specific location of the bands of elastic material, andwhich further provides a smooth snug fit at the waistband portion thereof and efiects an uplifting and supporting of the lower portion of the buttocksro'f the wearer, thus accomplishing all the objects of this invention, and others, including many advantages of great practical utility.
As' many'ernbodiments may be made of this inventive conceptpand as many modifications may be made in the embodiments hereinbefore shown and described, it is to be understood that all matter herein is tobe interpreted merely as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
