2 Claims. (Cl. 128148) My invention relates to improvements in nose filters.
My invention relates more particularly to an improved type of nose filter by the use of which discs of filter cloth may be used, removed and replaced as needed.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide an improved nose filter.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved nose filter of thetype which is easily insertable into the nostrils of a wearer and capable of being frictionally held therein.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved nose filter of the type which has a holder capable of insertion into the nostrils of a wearer and provided with a gauze or cloth filter unit capable of easy and simple removal and replacement whenever desired.
A further object of the invention is to provide a nose filter of the type described made of rubber or similar flexible material which is light in weight so that it is not easily displaced and also capable of being cleaned or sterilized when desired.
Other objects and advantages will be more apparent from the following description wherein reference is had to the accompanying drawings, upon which Fig. l is a generally diagrammatic view showing my improved nose filter mounted in the nostril;
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the same taken on the same plane as Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of one of the nose filter units;
Fig. 4 is a plan view thereof;
Fig. 5 is a side elevational view of the cone-shaped body which I employ;
Fig. 6 is a side elevational view of the filter disc holder; and
Fig. 7 is a bottom plan view thereof.
In the embodiment of the invention which I have chosen to illustrate and describe the same, in Fig. 1 I have shown my improved nose filter 10 mounted in the nostril or passage 12 in the nose of the wearer. The nose filter may generally comprise a tapered or cone-shaped body 14 open at both ends and provided about its lower end with a lateral flange 16. If desired, I also provide circular serrations or minute grooves 18 upon the outer surface of the cone-shaped body 14 for the purpose of frictionally holding the same in the nose of the wearer. The body 14 is preferably made of rubber of a consistency such that it is sufliciently rigid to be held in place when frictionally inserted into the nostril.
The filter holder 20 may be of comparatively flexible rubber having an upper surface 22 provided with a central opening 24 therein. The holder may have an inwardly turned lower flange 26 sufl'iciently flexible so that it may be easily bent outwardly to permit the insertion of a filter disc 28 and hold the same firmly in position after it has been inserted. The filter holder is preferably fused or adhered to the flange 16 of the body 14 about the periphery of the opening 24 therein.
The filter disc 28 is preferably made of cloth or gauze of a desired consistency and may or may not be treated with a medicament as desired in connection with the particular use for which the filter is intended.
With the construction I have shown it will be obvious that I have provided a highly improved nose filter which includes a sanitary holder capable of easy and simple insertion in the nostril of the wearer, and one which when worn will be comparatively comfortable in use. Also, the filter employed may be removed and replaced as desired, thus afiording the wearer a nose filter from which he may have long usage.
I contemplate that changes and modifications may be made in the exact details shown and I do not wish to be limited in any particular; rather what I desire to secure and protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
l. A nose filter comprising a comparatively rigid hollow cone-shaped body adapted to be inserted into the nostril and frictionally held therein, said body open at its upper and at its lower ends and having a flange around its larger end, a filter disc holder of comparatively flexible material attached to said flange and having a medial opening therethrough, said holder being circular and having a rolled-over edge, and a replaceable filter disc positioned in said holder and held against removal by said rolledover edge.
2. A nose filter comprising a comparatively rigid hollow cone-shaped body adapted to be inserted into the nostril and frictionally held therein, said body open at its upper and at its lower ends and having a flange around its larger end, a circular filter disc holder attached to said flange and having a medial opening therethrough, said holder being circular and having a rolled-over edge, and a replaceable circular filter disc positioned in said holder and held against removal by said rolled-over edge, said holder being made of flexible rubber and said filter disc being gauze.
