2 Claims. (Cl. 273-183) This invention relates to an implement for correcting the putting stroke of a golfer and has for its primary object to guide the putter of a golfer as it is advanced toward a ball being stroked and as it is continued on through after striking the ball.

Another object is to secure the guide in such a position that it cannot be moved by the movement of the putter during the stroking of the ball.

The above and other objects may be attained by employing this invention which embodies among its features a platform upon which a golfer takes his putting stance, a putter guide carried by the platform and extending up- Wardly therefrom adjacent one edge thereof, said guide engaging the heel of the putter employed by the golfer as he strokes a ball supported adjacent the guide, and a lip carried by the platform and extending outwardly therefrom adjacent the putter guide and said lip carrying guide lines which extend perpendicularly to the putter guide for cooperating with the face of the putter during the stroking of the ball.

Other features include a cushion carried by the guide for protecting the guide and putter from injury.

Referring to the drawings in detail, this improved implement designated generally comprises a platform 12 of substantially rectangular shape which carries adjacent one longitudinal side edge an upwardly extending flange 14. Carried by and extending outwardly from the platform 12 adjacent the flange 14 is a lip 16 which has painted on its upper surface longitudinally spaced guide lines 13 which lie perpendicular to the flange 14 and serve as guide means for the putter face during the stroking of the ball. Carried by the ilange 14 and enclosing the upper edge thereof is a cushion 2t) which, with the flange, defines a guide along which the heel of the putter P (Fig. l) is moved by the user in advancing the head of the putter P toward the ball B which rests on the surface adjacent the lip 16.

As illustrated in the drawings, the lip 16 is somewhat shorter in length than the platform 12 so that the ball B will rest on the surface upon which the implement 10 is used.

As illustrated in Figure l, the golfer takes his stance on the platform 12 and the heel of the golf club or putter P is placed against the guide defined by the rib 14 and the cushion 20. The ball is then placed on the surface adjacent the lip 16 and the putter is moved in a conventional manner away from the ball with the face of the putter lying parallel to the lines 18. The ball is then stroked and by repeatedly guiding the putter, as illustrated, the golfer will soon achieve the feel of the proper putting stroke as the putter head is advanced toward the ball. ln this way, faulty putting can be readily corrected.

While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed is:

l. An implement for use in correcting a golfers putting stroke comprising: a ilat platform on which a golfer may take his stance, said platform having a straight front edge; a straight, elongated, upwardly projecting flange rigidly connected to the platform and extending along said front edge to provide a guide for the heel of a putter head shifted longitudinally of said front edge; an elongated, flat lip rigid with and projecting forwardly from the flange in the plane of the platform, said lip having its length in parallelism with the flange; and a series of guide lines on the lip extending perpendicularly to the length of the flange and spaced longitudinally of the lip to provide markings selectively registrable with the face of a putter head preliminary to movement of the putter head along the llange in a direction to stroke a ball supported in front of the flange.

2. An implement for use in correcting a golfers putting stroke comprising: a ilat platform on which a golfer may take his stance, said platform having a straight front edge; a straight, elongated, upwardly projecting flange rigidly connected to the platform and extending along said front edge to provide a guide for the heel of a putter head shifted longitudinally of said front edge; an elongated, flat lip rigid with and projecting forwardly from the llange in the plane of the platform, said lip having its length in parallelism with the ilange; and a series of guide lines on the lip extending perpendicularly to the length of the flange and spaced longitudinally of the lip to provide markings selectively registrable with the face of a putter head preliminary to movement of the putter head along the flange in a direction to stroke a ball supported in front of the flange, said lip having one end in registration with the corresponding end of the frange, the other end of the lip terminating a substantial distance short of the other end of the flange to dene a space in front of the flange beyond said other end of the lip in which a ball may be supported.
