1 Claim. (Cl. 81-3) This invention relates to tools and devices for repairing a roof particularly of the wood shingle typein which the shingles split and decay, and in particular an applicator having a chamber for a roll of foil with a blade extended from the chamber and adapted to feed the foil between, under, or over shingles whereby foil of aluminum or other metal or strips of paper may be installed over a break or opening in a shingle with one end of the foil or tape secured by friction between upper and lower shingles.

The purpose of this invention is to provide a tool some- I what similar to an adhesive tape holder inwhich metal foil may be withdrawn from a roll, formed over the end of a blade and inserted under or between shingles with the blade whereby with the upper end of the foil frictionally gripped by the shingles the lower part may be cut or torn at the lower end of a shingle to provide a protecting layer of foil over adamaged or worn portion of a shingle. 1

Wood shingles and particularly cedar shingles become brittle with age and portions thereof, particularly around nails which hold the shingles to a roof decay forming recesses in which water is retained and the water eventually passes through the nail holes causing a leak. Wood shingles also split easily and after becoming brittle with age it is difficult to drive nails through the shingles without splitting the shingles. For this reason this invention contemplates a device for installing metal foil over openings through wood shingleswithorwithout nails and with the foil permanently secured in position over damaged I parts of the shingles.

The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide tionally heldbetween upper and lower shingles.

The blade 10, which is formed with beveled corners, 24 and 25 on the extended end may be formed of steel or other suitable material, and thebase 11 of the casing may be securedto the blade by welding or other suitable means.

As illustrated in Fig. 4 the rear wall 15 extends slightly 2 beyond the end of the blade 10 and is curved upwardly providing an arcute section 26 in which the opening 16 is positioned whereby afinger of an operator may be inserted through the opening to restrict outward movement of the foil and also to provide means for rewinding excess foil on the roll. 7

The foil extends from a roll 27 in the casing, over the base 11 and below a rolled lower edge 28 on the extended end of the cover, the edge or head 28 being spaced slightly above the upper surface of the base 11.'

The hooks 22 and 23 are mounted with eyes, such as the eyes 29, shown in Fig. Son the end walls 12 and 13 of the casing, the eyes being mounted in openings 30 and 31 of the end walls.
