14 Claims. (Cl. 63-456) This invention relates to an improved ring.
It is an object of this invention to provide a ring which is adjustable in size to accommodate different size fingers and to readily pass over the knuckle when put on or removed.
It is a further object of this invention to provide such a ring which will stay in place during use.
It is a further object of this invention to provide such a ring which will completely encircle the finger without any gap therebetween.
It is still a further object of this invention to provide such a ring wherein no projections or sharp members contact the finger.
Still a further object of the invention is to provide a ring wherein the ring is urged to its smallest size.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will be readily apparent from the followingdescription.

The ring 10 has a circular base section 12 with a raised upper section 14. The base section and upper section are joined by legs 16 and 18. The setting 20 for whatever stone 22 is utilized has a curved upper face generally conforming to the outer contour of ring 10 and a pair of spaced side walls forming a recess into which the upper section 14 of ring 10 is received. The outer extremities of the setting 20 are curved inwardly as at 23, so that when the setting is in the contracted position as seen in Figures 1, 4 and 5, the curved portion fits into a curved seat 24 formed at the junction between base section 12 with legs 16 and 18. The outer surface of legs 16 and 18 are formed projecting directly away from ring 16 and act as camways for curvedportion 23 of setting 2d, insuring movement of the setting in a direct line away from the ring it).
To insure against the ring and setting becoming separated the setting is provided with a pair of prongs 26 which project through circumferentially spaced openings on slots 28 in upper section 14 of the ring. These prongs are originally diverging as seen in Fig. 6 to facilitate assembly and are bent by pliers or the like to a parallel position as seen in Figures 4, and 5. Each prong has a projection 31) on the lower edge thereof and whenthe prongs are parallel the distance between projections 30 2,743,591 Patented May 1, 1956 ice is smaller than the width of bridge 32 between slots 28, thus preventing disassembly.
The spring 34 has a slot 36 which receives prongs 26. The side walls of the setting are each provided with an inwardly projecting protuberance 38 which engages spring 34 and prevents its falling out. The outer ends of spring 34 strike the upper section 14 and hence urge the setting into the lower position as seen in Figures 1, 4 and 5 To facilitate assembly the upper section 14 has bridge 32 notched as at 48 to pass over protuberances 38.
In operation the setting is normally in the contracted position because of the urging of spring 34. When the lower edges of the side walls of the setting engage the knuckle the setting is raised against the spring pressure. This raising movement is confined to a straight line by the camming action of the curved extremities 23 of the setting and the outer surface of legs 16 and 18 and is limited in distance by the engagement of projections 30 with bridge 32.
While what hereinbcfore has been described is the pre ferred embodiment of this invention, it is readily apparent that alterations and modifications can be resorted to without departing from the scope of this invention and such alterations and modifications are intended to be included within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. An adjustable finger ring comprising: a continuous ring having a generally circular base section and an upper section forming an elongated recess in a portion of the inner circumference of said ring extending axially from side to side thereof, a movable setting member overlying said upper section and having a pair of side walls extending downwardly on each side of said upper section covering said recess and having inner edges conforming to the inner contour of the base section of said ring when said setting is in a contracted position, spring means urging said setting member into said contracted position where said side walls fully cover said recess, and means on said ring and on said setting covered by said side walls and forming bearing surfaces for opposing portions of said spring means.
2. An adjustable finger ring comprising: a continuous ring having a generally circular base section and an upper section forming an elongated recess in a portion of the inner circumference of said ring extending axially from side to side thereof, a movable setting member overlying said upper section and extending at least the length of said recess and having side walls depending therefrom straddling said upper section and covering said recess when said setting member is in a contracted position, the edges of said side walls in said contracted position of the setting following the inner contour of the base section of said ring, spring means urging said setting member to said contracted position, and means on said ring and on said setting covered by said side walls and forming bearing surfaces for opposing portions of said spring means.

An adjustable finger ring comprising: a continuous ring having a generally circular base section and an upper section forming an elongated recess in a portion of the inner circumference of said ring extending axialiy from side to side thereof, a movable setting member overlying said upper section and having a pair of side walls extending downwardly on each side of said upper section covering said recess and having inner edges conforming to the inner contour of the base section of said ring when said setting is in a contracted position, spring means urging said setting member into said contracted position so that said side walls fully cover said recess, means on said ring and on said setting covered by said side walls and forming bearing surfaces for opposing portions of said spring means, a camway formed on said ring, and a cam follower on said setting so that movement of said setting with "respect to'said ring is confinedto straight'line movement.
