CHARLES I. LEWIS, OF DEL RIO, TEXAS.
HARROW.
SPECIFICATIGN forming part of Letters Patent No. 274,347, dated March 20, 1883.
Application filed August 8, 1882. (No model.) l
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. LEWIS, of Del Rio, in the county of Kinney and State of Texas, have invented a. new and Improved Harrow, of which the following is a fu11,clear, und exact description.
My invention relates to improvements. in harrows; and it consists in the peculiar c onstruction and arrangement of the parts, as hereinafter more fully set forth, and pointed ont in the claims.
Reference is to be had tfo the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speeilicatiomin which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the iigures.
Figure l is a plan view of my improved barrow; and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation ofthe same, taken von the line .r a: of Fig. 1.
The frame consists of the parallel bars a, connected at the front by the pointed section b, and the said front pointed section is provided with barrow-teeth c, of ordinary form.
A little to the rear of the front end is a smail rectangular frame, d, arranged transversely of the main frame on the shaft e, mounted in the side bars, a, so as to turn on its axis. This frame carries the drag-hook teeth f, which are to rake up the roots, clods, and other like matters, and hold them so as to be torn apart and pulverized by the rotating teeth 9, mounted on a shaft, h, just behind teethf, so
v that its teeth Work between the hook-teeth, as
Behind the front set of drag and revolving teeth is another similar set, end more may be added, it' desired 5 but practically tivo sets will probably be the best.
To each shaft e there is a pulley, lr, applied, which is connected by a chain, Z, to a handlever, fm, pivoted upon one of the side bars of the frame, so that the operator can at any time raise up and vibrate or shake the teeth f to discharge any matters clogging in them and not freed by the teeth g.
For the construction of the Wheels i, I propose to employ two rings of metal, as shown in Fig. 2, of different sizes, and connected to the shaft by spokes n, extending through both rings, to which rings the prongsj may be connected radially, as shown, with nuts o to secure them, so that they can be readily removed, Wheu required, for repairs or renewal.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. The combination, with the revolving harroW-teeth g and prong-wheels i, of the eenF trally-hinged vibratory frame d, carrying dra ghook teeth f, constructed and adapted to op erate substantially as described.
2. The combination, with the barrow-frame a b, revolving teeth g, prong-wheels z', and vibratory frame el, carrying the hook-teeth f, of the pulley if, chain I, and lever my, substantia-ll y as described.
CHAS. PATTON LEWIS.
