Accordingly, amon the object's et'the present invention are: to provide a ra'zdr bla'tle holder Made of a form remaining bendable sheet material which is integrally furnished with arm structures which in a quicker and more satisfactory "manner can beprbj'ected through the lag in a conventional safety sneer blade, and then be bent down and adhered in a blade securing position; and to provide a novel, better functioning, blade embracing integral extension of the sheet material of which the handle portion of the device is made.
With the foregoing objects in view, along with others which will hereinafter appear, the invention resides in the combinations, arrangements and functional relationships of elements set forth in the following specification. and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, illustrative of a preferred embodiment of the invention,
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of the complete razor ready for use, the scale being smaller than in the remaining views.
Fig. 2 is an outer face view of the single piece of sheet material from which the blade holding part of the device is constructed.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the device.
Fig. 4 is a view showing the blade holding part of the device in side elevation and a portion of the handle thereof sectioned on line 4-4 of Fig. l, the outer end portion of the handle being broken away to contract the view.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary perspective illustrating the blade holding parts in readiness to receive the blade and then be bent down to and adhered in the blade in its mounted position.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the illustrated embodiment of the blade mounting means provided by the invention comprises two principal parts, a handle portion 7, which in cross section is a rectangular tube (but it may be otherwise polygonal); and a razor blade holding part or head 8.
In its preformed, extended condition, shown in Fig. 2, said handle is seen to comprise the two complementary broader side panels 9 and 10, a narrower side panel 11 designed to form a single ply wall at one side of the handle; and two other panels 12 and 13 which, in the completed handle overlap each other so as to form a double position securely to hold 2 wall at the tfonrth; side of the-handle, as shown in Fig. 4, the panel 1'2 he n' exterior to the panel '13, "th'e latter Jpane'l havingthr'dugh itan elon ated opening 15 to admit anointed tongue 16' earriedhry"theypanel'lz. Along with this assembly operation a generally rectangular deflectable ear 32 in the flap portion 22, well shown in Fig. 5, is projected through the razor blade and through a narrow slit or slot 33 in the wing portion 23, and is then bent down into flatwise contact with and adhered to the upper surface of the wing portion 23.
By the aforesaid means the razor blade is firmly maintained in its operative position with a narrow cutting edge portion exposed.
An intermediate step in putting the razor blade into its operative position is illustrated in Fig. 5. After swinging the ear 32 from the position shown in this view up to perpendicular in relation to the wing portion 22 the slotted portion of said blade will be dropped over said ear and over the tongues 16 and 17, and the tongues and ear will be deflected to the horizontal, as already described, and adhered in place.
Desirably, in the completed device the mounted razor blade will be slightly inclined as to its width, in relation to the handle with the exposed cutting edge of the blade lower than its opposite edge portion when the handle is in the downwardly directed, vertical position shown in Fig. 1. This result is brought about by making the panel 9 a little shorter than the panel 10, and contouring the upper edge of the handle forming panel assembly in the manner illustrated in Fig. 2.
In the completed device each pair of slits or narrow slots 30, 30a, is located substantially in alinement with the wall of the handle at its side of the device so that, when deflected into the handle and then bent outwardly as shown in Fig. 4, the tongues 16 and 17 have their inner end portions in a flatwise abutting relation to opposite walls of the handle. Owing to this arrangement said tongues, in an efiicient manner prevent endwise displacement of the mounted blade.
Though I have described and illustrated what is at present deemed to be a preferred embodiment of the invention, yet it is to be understood that various changes in the described structure may be made without exceeding the scope of the claimed invention.
I claim:
1. In a razor blade mounting structure of form retaining sheet material, a tubular handle which is polygonal in cross section, the sheet material which forms one side of said handle being extended at one end into a transvers ly directed flap that overlies that end of the handle and then is outwardly bent back across its midlength portion into an approximate contact with itself, an apertured blade positioned between said flap portions, said flap portions having apertures aligned with said blade aperture, 1
and tongues integral with opposite sides of said handle, said tongues extending through said alined apertures in the parts of said flap at opposite sides of the razor blade and through apertured portions of the latter, said tongues having outer end portions bent down upon and adhered to the exterior face of the part of said flap which overlies the razor blade.
2. The subject matter of claim 1, and that part of said flap which underlies the razor blade having an integral ear which extends through an aperture in the blade and through an aperture in the part of said flap which overlies the latter, said ear being bent down upon and ad hered to the exterior surface of the part of said flap which overlies the blade.
3. The subject matter of claim 1, and said handle being rectangular in cross section.
4. A razor blade holder consisting of form retaining sheet material one portion of which is so bent as to form a tubular handle which is polygonal in cross section, at one end of said handle one wall thereof being extended as a deflected flap overlying that end of the handle and then "bent back across its midlength portion and then bent down, an apertured razor blade underlying said bent down flap portion, said flap portions having apertures alined with the aperture in the blade; and tongues integral with the walls of said handle, each of said tongues having an inner end portion overlying the inner surface of a wall of said handle and an outer end portion extending through said alined blade and flap apertures and then bent down upon and adhered to the exterior surface of the part of said flap which overlies said blade.
5. In a razor blade mounting structure of form retaining sheet material, a tubular handle which is polygonal in cross section, the sheet material which forms one side of said handle being extended at one end into a transversely directed flap that overlies that end of the handle and then is outwardly bent back across its midlength portion into an approximate contact with itself, an aper tured blade within said flap portions, said flap portions having apertures alined with said blade aperture, and extensions integral with said handle and projecting from an end portion thereof and through said bladeand flap apertures to maintain the blade in an operative relation to said handle, at least one side of said handle having a two-ply wall with an aperture through its inner ply, and one of said extensions consisting of a tongue in the outer ply of said wall cut free therefrom except as to its inner end, so that said tongue can be deflected through said wall aperture into said handle and bent into a blade holding position.
