SHELVES Filed Jan. l5, 1954 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 Iravezvtop .H0 Lmwa'esz H. HOLMQUIST SHELVES Jan. 3l, 1956 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Filed Jan. 15, 1954 Izzo azz-bof est United States Patent O SHELvEs Hlalmar Holmqust, Danderyd, Sweden Application. Jamiiry 15,1954, serial No. 404,135 Claims priority, application Sweden January 24, 1953 1 claim. (ci. 211-147) The present invention relates to shelves which can be used as oor shelves along the wall, as free-standing eor shelves and as wall shelves.
The shelves according to the invention comprise a bearing frame of tube portions or poles of wood or the l like which may have any cross section and which carry ment, and
Fig. 4 is a corresponding side view.
Referring now to the drawing 1 and 2 designate two vertical tubes, which are connected with each other at the top through a'bent tube portion 3 and placed in front of a wall lIn those sides of the tubes 1, 2 which4 face the wall 4, equidistant holes 5 are provided. Two
pins 7 and 8 being part of the carrying means 6 are inv serted into each two of the holes 5. The carrying means 6 comprises a coarse metal wire, which is bent in such a manner that Atwo end pieces protrude from the ends ofl a central portion bent angularly, said end pieces being parallel with ahorizontal portion 9 of the central portion.
Shelves 11 provided with holes 10 for the tubes are threaded on the .vertical tubes 1 and 2. At the holes 10 2,732,955 Patented Jan. 31, 1956 ICC the shelves 11 are provided with recesses 12 for the carrying members 6 so that the shelves can rest on the horizontal portions 9 of the carrying members 6 whereby th l In Figs. 3 and 4 a modied detail of the invention is illustrated. The reference numeral 15 designates a shelf which at the edge located close to the wall 4 is supported in the same manner as the lowermost shelf 116 according to Figs. 1 and 2. It is also supported by a llat iron 16 screwed on at the lower side of the shelf, said at iron being bent angularly at its inner end and being supported at its front end by a stay 19 the lower end of which is supported by a bracket 20 screwed in the wall. The horizontal portion of the flat iron adjacent the bend is provided with a recess 21 for the support 6G.
Having now described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
Shelving comprising a shelf, a vertical supporting frame for the shelf, the frame being provided with transverse spaced equidistant cylindrical holes along its length, a bracket formed of an integral angularly bent piece ol' round metal wire whose end portionsare straight and parallel and extend in the same direction and at such a distance from each other so that both ends can be inserted in spaced holes in the supporting frame, the bracket having an intermediate horizontal portion parallel with the end portions and on which the shelf rests, a vertical portion between an end portion and the intermediate portion, the shelf being provided with a hole through which the supporting frame is threaded, a vertical recess on the side wall of the hole extending from the bottom of the shelf and terminating short of the upper side of the shelf and conforming tol the vertical portion of the Vbracket which ts in the recess.
