2 Claims. (Cl. 19-140) This invention relates to a clearer for the top drawing rollers of a spinning frame and has for its primary object to prevent the accumulation of lint and waste on the drawing rollers and to thus improve the quality of the yarn produced during the spinning operation.

Another object is to clear the top drawing rollers of the spinning machine of lint and waste accumulations while the machine is in operation so as to avoid loss of production and the necessity of frequent cleaning of the clearer rolls.

A still further object is to prevent the lint or loose fibers attendant to the spinning of yarn from accumulating on the clearer roller to an extent that portions of such accumulations will be caught in the yarn ends and spun thereinto with the result that slubby yarn is produced.

The above and other objects may be attained by employing this invention which embodies among its features a support carried by a spinning frame and extending longitudinally across said frame above longitudinally spaced drawing rollers mounted in the frame, longitudinally spaced clearer rollers carried by the support and having rolling contact with the drawing rollers, and each clearer roller rotating about an axis which lies above the common axis of the longitudinally spaced drawing rollers and oblique thereto.

Other features include pairs of spaced arms carried by the support and extending downwardly therefrom above the drawing rollers, each pair of arms having openings extending therethrough which align an axis which lies oblique to the common axis, a clearer roller extending between each pair of arms, and having rolling contact with a drawing roller, trunnions carried by and extending axially from opposite ends of each clearer roller, and said trunnions extending through the openings in a pair of arms whereby the clearing rollers will lie along longitudinally spaced axes which extend oblique to the common horizontal axis about which the drawing rollers rotate.

Figure 5 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially Patented Jan. 3, 1956 opposite ends thereof are guides 16 having recesses 18 in their upper ends for the reception of the supporting brackets of conventional clearers for the top drawing rollers 14.

This improved clearer designated generally 20 comprises a support bar 22 carrying adjacent opposite ends brackets 24 which are adapted to enter the recesses 18 to hold the support bar 22 horizontally above the drafting rollers 14 and in vertically spaced relation thereto.

Carried by the support bar 22 on the underside thereof are longitudinally spaced supporting brackets designated generally 26 comprising attaching plates 28 which are pierced adjacent opposite ends to receive fasteners 30 by means of which the brackets 26 are connected to the support bar on the underside thereof. As will be readily understood upon reference to the drawings, there is one bracket 26 for each top drafting roller 14 and depending from the brackets adjacent opposite ends thereof are legs 32. The legs 32 are provided adjacent their lower ends with elongated slots 34 which communicate adjacent their upper ends with passages 36 which open upwardly through adjacent side edges of the legs 32. As illustrated in the drawings, the base plates 28 of the brackets 26 lie oblique to and above the drawing rollers 14, and mounted for rotation in said brackets are trunnions 38 carrying clearer rollers 40 which, as shown, have rolling contact with their respective drafting rollers 14 about horizontal axes which lie oblique to the common axis about which the drafting rollers 14 rotate, it being understood, of course, that each roller 40 lies oblique to its respective roller 14.

In the preferred form of the invention, the clearer rollers 40 may be provided with a suitable covering 42 such as leather, rubber or the like.

In use, it will be evident that with the support 22 mounted on the guides 16, the clearer rollers 40 will have rolling contact with their respective longitudinally spaced drawing rollers 14 so that as the drawing rollers 14 are driven, the clearer rollers will rotate about their longitudinally spaced oblique axes to collect any lint or waste that may adhere to the drawing rollers -14 so as to prevent the collection of accumulations of such lint and waste on the drawing rollers.

While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed is:

1. In a drawing frame for a spinning machine longitudinally spaced drawing rollers carried by said frame for rotation about a common horizontal axis, and guides carried by and extending upwardly from the frame adjacent opposite ends thereof, means for preventing the accumulation of lint and waste on the drawing rollers comprising a support carried by the guides and extending longitudinally of the spinning frame above the drawing rollers, longitudinally spaced clearer rollers carried by the support with one clearer roller above each drawing roller and having rolling contact therewith, said clearer rollers rotating about parallel axes which lie above the common axis and oblique thereto.

2. In a drawing frame for a spinning machine longitudinally spaced drawing rollers carried by said frame for rotation about a common horizontal axis, and guides carried by and extending upwardly from the frame adjacent opposite ends thereof, means for preventing the accumulation of lint and Waste on the drawing rollers comprising a support carried by the guides and extending longitudinally of the spinning frame above the drawing rollers, longitudinally spaced pairs of spaced arms carried by the support and extending downwardly therefrom above the: drawing rollers; a. clearer roller carried by and extending between the arms of each pair of arms with its axis lying oblique to the common axis, the axes of all of the clearer rollers carried by; said pairs of arms arranged in parallel: relation: to each: othen and each. clearen roller. being disposed above the corresponding; drawing. roller and arranged: for rolling contact therewith.
