Description

Dec. 27, 1955 cs. 0. DAVIS 2,728,489
SUGAR DISPENSER Filed March 19, 1954 INVEN TOR. GEORGE O. DAV/s ah-MM ATTORNEY Unite f States Patent SUGAR DISPENSER George 0. Davis, Sacramento, Calif.
Application March 19, 1954, Serial No. 417,459
1 Claim. (Cl. 222-149) This invention relates to improvements in dispensers and particularly dispensers for sugar.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a device for liberating sugar at the dispensing opening of a sugar container, particularly when the sugar is in clotted condition, or when the sugar is blocking the dispensing opening.
Still another object or" the invention is to provide means, in the form of a cap for a sugar dispenser, wherein means is provided to repulverize lumped sugar at the outlet, to the end that the sugar will easily pour from the container.
These and various other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following description;
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a top plan view.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary side elevational view with the cap partly in section.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral denotes a container having an upper threaded portion to accommodate the threaded skirt portion 11 of a cap 12. The cap 12 has a discharge opening 13 in one wall thereof and diametrically opposite from this, the cap is formed with a depressed portion 14 defining a wall 15 through which a barrel 16 is disposed, this barrel being welded or otherwise secured to the wall 15 with its inner end portion terminating slightly inwardly of the opening 13. The other end of the barrel 16 may project slightly outwardly of the wall 15, as shown in Figure 2.
A rod 17 is slidably disposed through the barrel 16 and its inner end is provided with a ball head 18, which is capable of being moved by the rod 17 to press into the opening 13, to pulverize and extrude sugar or other material through said opening.
The outer end of the rod 17 has a collar 19 provided with a hand knob 20 and convoluted on the outer end portion of the rod 17 is a coiled compression spring 21, which is interposed between the collar 19 and the outer end of the barrel 16, the action of this spring being to force the hand knob 20 outwardly and the ball 18 away from the opening 13 normally.
It can now be seen that when the receptacle 10 is inverted in order to pour sugar therefrom, should the sugar be clogged at the opening 13, all that is necessary, is to force the rod 12 inwardly and the ball head 18 will press the sugar at the opening 13 to permit the sugar to freely flow out through said opening.
While the foregoing description sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the inventio n as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention what is claimed as new A sugar dispenser comprising an open-topped cylindrical receptacle, a cap threadably mounted upon the upper end of said receptacle, said cap having a top and a skirt, a depressed portion in said top having a wall at the inner end thereof, said skirt having a dispensing opening therein diametrically opposed to said depressed portion and said wall, an elongated barrel afiixed to and extending through said wall, a rod slidably mounted in said barrel, a ball head afiixed to the inner end of said rod, a collar affixed to the outer end portion of said rod, a knob affixed to the outer end of said collar, and a compression spring surrounding said rod and bearing against said collar and said barrel.
