3 Claims. (Cl. 2-198) This invention pertains to a. headdress, and more particularly to a garment, which is so formed and so constructed' that when properly arranged forms a particularly attractive head covering.

It is the object of the present invention to provide a novel design of blank for a headdress together with a plurality of snaps and fasteners secured thereon, whereby the blank may be formed into an attractive headdress.

It is the further object of this invention to provide a simplified headdress blank together with fastening devices on various parts thereof, whereby said blank may be correctly folded and formed with parts thereof removably interconnected by said snaps and fastners to thereby produee an interesting and attractive headdress.

These and other objects will be seen from the following specification and claims, in conjunction with the appended drawings, in which:

Figure l is an elevational view of one form of headdress blank.

Figure 2 is a side elevational view thereof.

Figure 3 illustrates one. of the initial steps in so folding the blank for forming the present headdress.

Figure 4 illustrates a successive step for further forming a portion of the headdress.

Figure 5 is an elevational view of a slightly different form of headdress blank.

Figure 6 is a fragmentary elevational view of still another'different form of headdress blank.

Figure 7 is a rear elevational view of the completed headdress; and

Figure 8 is a side elevational view thereof.

It will be understood that the above drawings illustrate merely a preferred embodiment of the present invention, and that other embodiments are contemplated within the scope of the claims hereafter set forth.

Referring to the drawings, Figures 1 and 2 illustrate a formed blank 11, which includes the bottom elongated forehead engaging band 12, the upwardly extending inwardly directed side portions 13 and 14, and the rounded top portions 15 and 16 with intermediate slotted portion 17.

The blank 11 may be of any desired material and may have a colorful lining upon one side thereof, if desired. Snaps 18 and 20 are suitably secured adjacent the lower corners of blank 11 at the ends of the band 12, which snaps are adapted for cooperative securing engagement with the fasteners 19 and 21, which are suitably secured in spaced relation upon the upper portion of the blank, for fastening in the manner illustrated in Figure 3. It is contemplated that any type of fastener may be employed which will provide means for interconnecting the opposite outer lower ends of the blank with the upper curved portions 15 and 16.

Hook 22 is secured at 23 towards one end of the band 12 of the blank and is adapted for securing engagement "ice with the eye 24 secured at 25 to the band 12 towards its opposite end when the opposite lower portions of the blank have been folded upwardly .to the position shown in Figure 3.

When the hook and eye 22 and 24 are interconnected, the blank will take the general shape shown in Figure 4, which provides the head receiving opening 32 and the spaced looped portions 33 and 34, which define the reversed turned ornamental ears shown in Figure 7' in the completed garment.

In normal use, the blank may be formed, as above described intially interconnecting thesnaps and fasteners 18, 19, 20, and 21 respectively, and thereafter interconnecting the hook and eye 22 and 24.

It is furthermore contemplated that the user may find it more convenient to initially mount the blank upon. the head with the elongated band 12 with the lining side. down over the users forehead with the outer portions. of the band extending downwardly and rearwardly over the ears and with the hook andeye interconnected at the nape of the neck. As a next step, the snaps 18 and 20 may be interconnected with the fasteners 19 and 21 to thereby form the spaced looped portions 33 and 34 shown in Figure 4, and which in final form will be reverse folded throughout to reveal the lining of the blank in the attractive manner shown in Figures 7' and 8.

Upon the opposite side of blank 11 upon central portions thereof, are secured the spaced snap and fasteners 26 and 27 and adjacent thereto are the two ribbons 28 and '29 suitably stitched or otherwise secured, as at 30 and 31 at their ends to said blank.

As a next step in forming the headdress, the opposite depending side portions of the blank are folded upwardly towards each other and are snapped together by the snaps 26 and 27 to thereby fit the blank to the back of the head and to thus produce the triangular head engaging element 37 shown in Figure 7.

As a next step, the ribbons 28 and 29 are tied together into a bow, as indicated in Figures '7 and 8.

As a final step, the two looped portions '33 and 34 are reverse turned throughout their complete marginal edges to thereby form. the ornamental oval shaped ears38- and 39 ofFigure 7, and which display in their outer surface a portion of the lining of the blank to thereby complete a very attractive headdress.

It is contemplated that this blank may beassembled in various ways to suit the convenience of, the user, and. it may be preferred to first interconnect the hook and eye 22 and 24 before interconnecting the snaps and fasteners 18, 19, 20 and 21, which define the looped portions 33 and 34, which result in the out-turned reverse folded ears 38 and 39.

Figure 5 illustrates a slightly different form of blank 40 with elongated straight forehead engagingband 41 and the upwardly extending converging side portions 42 and 43 and rounded portion 44 at the top. Tying ribbons 45 and 46 are secured at their ends as at 47 and 48 to the reverse side of blank 40 shown in Figure 5.

The above described snaps and fasteners 18, 19, 20 and 21 are secured to blank 40, such as by suitable stitching in the same manner as the corresponding snaps and fasteners of Figure 1. Similarly, the hook and eye 22 and 24, as well as the snap and fastener 26 and 27 are similarly secured to the blank the same as the corresponding elements are secured to pattern 11.

Figure 6 illustrates a slightly different form of blank 49 including the forehead engaging straight band 50, the upwardly extending converging side edges 51 and 52, and the rounded top portion 53. It might be said that each of the blanks shown in Figures 1, 5 and 6 are substantially semicircular in form.

Instead of snap and fastener 26 and 27 shown in some 3 of the blanks 11, and 40, blank 49 includes the spaced pairs of button holes 54 and 55.

These button holes are spaced similarly to the spacing of the snap and fastener 26 and 27 in Figure l, and are interconnected by the buttons 56 shown in Figure 6, which are tied together as at 57, so that said buttons may be retainingly positioned through the button holes 55. Thereafter, upon the final forming of the headdress, the buttons 56 may be respectively inserted through the button holes 54 upon the other side of the blank, to thereby fit a portion of the blank to the back of the users head, as in Figure 7.

While hook and eye 22 and 24 respectively are shown as one method of securing together the ends of element 12, Fig. 1, it is contemplated that other means may be employed for this purpose, as for example, ribbons with their free ends respectively secured to the ends of the element 12 in substantially the same position as the hook and eye 22 and 24 respectively.

Having described my invention, reference should now be had to the claims which follow for determining the scope thereof.

I claim:

1. A headdress consisting of a substantially semicircular blank having a straight elongated forehead and face engaging element at its bottom and opposed upwardly extending inwardly curved side edges merging at the top of the blank, a hook and eye, respectively, secured to one face of the blank adjacent the ends of said element and spaced inwardly from the corresponding side edge, said hook and eye adapted to be interconnected at the nape of the users neck, a pair of spaced snaps respectively secured upon said face adjacent the opposite ends of said element and nearer said side edges than the hook and eye, respectively, a pair of spaced cooperating fasteners secured respectively upon said face adjacent each side edge and positioned adjacent the top of the blank, the snaps and fasteners adjacent each side edge respectively being adapted to be interconnected whereby the material along the edge portions between each pair of joined fasteners on the one face of said blank may be manipulated to 7 form a pair of upright spaces between the adjacent edges of said edge portions when said blank is in wearing position at the rear of the users head, and a spaced snap and fastener respectively secured upon the opposite face of said blank inwardly of the side edges thereof and intermediate the top and bottom thereof and adapted to be interconnected, so that the blank conforms to the rear of the users head, the material on one face of the blank being of a contrasting type or color in relation to the material on the other face of the blank, the material of the blank bounding said spaces being adapted to be reverse folded throughout and adjacent their peripheries to form a pair of ornamental ears' upon the back of the headdress.

2. The headdress of claim 1, and a pair of ribbons secured at their one ends to said opposite face of said blank adjacent and outwardly of said last snap and fastener, with their other ends adapted to be tied into an ornamental bow.

3. A headdress consisting of a substantially semicircular blank having a straight elongated forehead and face engaging element at its bottom and opposed upwardly extending inwardly curved side edges merging at the top of the blank, a first pair of spaced fastening means respectively secured to one face of the blank adjacent the ends of said element and spaced inwardly from the corresponding side edges of the blank, said first fastening means adapted to be interconnected at the nape of the users neck, a second pair of spaced fastening means, respectively, secured upon said face adjacent the opposite ends of said element and nearer said side edges than said first spaced means respectively, a third pair of spaced cooperating fastening means secured upon said face adjacent each side edge respectively and positioned adjacent the top of the blank, the corresponding second and third fastening means adjacent each side edge respectively being adapted to be interconnected whereby the material along the edge portions between each pair of joined second and third fastening means on the one face of said blank may be manipulated to form a pair of upright spaces between the adjacent edges of said edge portions when said blank is in wearing position at the rear of the users head, and a fourth pair of spaced fastening means secured upon the opposite face of said blank inwardly of the side edges thereof respectively and intermediate the top and bottom thereof and adapted to be interconnected, so that the blank conforms to the rear of the users head, the material on one face of the blank being of a contrasting type or color in relation to the material on the other face of the blank, the material of the blank bounding said spaces being adapted to be reverse folded throughout and adjacent their peripheries to form a pair of ornamental ears upon the back of the headdress.
