ROTARY FAN-BLOWER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 272,595, dated February 20, 1883.
Application filed October 18, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, \VRIGHT D. SMITH, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Rotary Fan -Blowers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the ac ompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of this invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in that class of fan-blowers which have openings for the admission of air opposite each other and in each side of the fan-case, by means of which an even discharge of air is obtained, and entirely avoiding theloss of power which occurs in blowers of this description where the inlets are opposite each other, with nothing between the openings to separate the aircurrents, which meet at nearly a central point, and in the operation of the fan produce an unsteady current.
The invention consists in providing a central disk secured to the fan-shaft, and to which the bucket-s or fans are secured, and which divides the inlet currents and reunites them at the discharge in a dirt-ct and steady current, and in the various combinations necessary to produce these results.

In the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, A represents a disk, the diameter of which will fit the internal di-. ameter of the fan case or scroll, within which the disk revolves. This disk is secured to the shaft B, so that its position when in place is in the center of the scroll, in which there are the usual air-inlets upon each side. opposite faces of this disk are secured the wings or fans D, which maybe of any desired Upon the form, as the different surfaces to which such 4 devices are applied may require. These fans or wings may be cast with the disk, or they may be secured thereto by bolts or studs (1, and they are arranged alternately, or staggered, with relation to each other on the two 5 sides of the disk, as shown, D representing those upon one side, and D those upon the opposite side. These wings are set staggering to equalize the pressure of air, because it the wings were attached opposite each other there would be a tendency to inequality in the blast. It is preferable with this construction to employ pulleys O and O-one on each end of the shaft-although this is not essenemployment of one pulley.
