SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 271,889, dated February 6, 1883.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN F. MGAEEE, of Pleasant Hill, in the county ofOass and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Yarn-Hankin g Machine, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My improvements relate to machines for forming woolen and cotton yarns into hanks, and have the object to facilitate the work and give to the banks a better shape and appear ance.

The invention consists in the combination of the mechanism hereinafter described and claimed, and in which the hook that receives the bank of yarn is fitted for throwing the mechanism in and out of gear.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar lettersof reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.

This lever also engages or passes between collars upon the clutch-shaft a, and to the opposite end of this lever k is connecteda spring, Z, which tends to draw the lever in the direction for'disengaging the clutch bf, and for releasing the pinion h from the gear-wheel e. r

In operation, the hank of yarn is placed upon the hook z, and then by pulling the hank gently it moves the shaft 9 endwise, thus engaging the pinion h with the gear-wheel, and moving the shaft a backward, so that the clutch-faces b j en gage. six, eight, or more times, as may be required, and gives the required twist to the hank of yarn.
