4 Claims. (Cl. 1187) This invention relates to clothes pins and more especially to a holder for clips for holding clothes on a clothes line.

An object of the invention is to provide a simple, practical and inexpensive device of the character described.

Another object of the invention is to provide a novel holder for clips for holding clothes on a clothes line.

An additional object of the invention is to provide in a clothes clip holder a novel magazine for clips which may be readily replaced when depleted with another magazine of clips.

An additional object of the invention is to provide in a clothes clip holder novel means for releasing or dispensing the clips one at a time.

Other objects and advantages will appear and be brought out more fully in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing wherein:

Referring more particularly to the drawing I show a clothes clip holder comprising an elongated body or shank 10 having a longitudinal bore 11 in which is positioned a rod 12 having an end hook 13 extending beyond the end of shank 10. Rod 12 is reciprocable in bore 11 and is urged downwardly by a spring 14 held by U-shaped plate 15 secured to the upper end of shank 10.

A block 16 is detachably secured to shank 10 by dovetail joint 17 and secures a guide wire 18 and a pair of guide wires 19 which extend downwardly along shank 10 forming a clip magazine 20. A plurality of clips 21 are carried by magazine 20, each clip being of malleable or slightly resilient wire having a U-shaped formation and bent ends 22, as may be clearly seen in Figure 7, the clips being held in the magazine with bent ends 22 guided by guide Wires 19, the central portion of the clips being held by guide wire 18.

A pair of plates 23 are each pivoted at 24 to a plate member 25 secured as by screws 26 to the lower end of shank 10, which screws also secure a leaf spring 27. The two leaf springs urge plates 23 outwardly as shown in Figures 1 and 3 on opposite sides of hook 13 after movement of the plates inwardly by manual manipulation as will be more fully set forth hereinbelow.

A clip separating dispensing plunger 28 is suitably mounted on shank 10 for reciprocation transversely of iii the shank, and has a separating blade 29 formed with a sharpened edge or point 30, the plunger 28 also having a stop blade 31 as shown. A spring 32 urges plunger 28 in the retracted position of Figures 1, 4 and 5. Figure 5 shows a clothes line 33 and an article of clothing 34 positioned thereon and held by a clip 21.

In operation a clip 21 is separated and dispensed from the magazine 20 by manipulation of the plunger 28 to the position shown in Figure 3 which will release the lowermost clip from the stack and which clip will drop down and be guided by the

18 and 19 to engage upon the hook 13 and be suspended therefrom with the lower bent ends 22 thereof engaged over the lowermost edges of the

23, 23, as shown in Figure 4. Upon the return movement of the plunger, the stop blade 31 is positioned to sustain the remaining stack of clips. Of course, when used, the holder will be disposed in a substantially vertical position so that the released clip will drop down into engagement upon the hook 13 and assume the position shown in Figure 4. 23, 23 can be deformed manually by compression of plates 23 around wire 33 and the article of clothing 34. When the clip is engaged over the clothes line and the article of clothing, the user may twist and tilt the assembly such as to separate the hook 13 from the clip and it is to facilitate this manipulation that the hook 13 is permitted of a slight upward movement in opposition to the spring 14. After the clothing has dried and it is desired to remove them from the line, this can be done by a simple manipulation as a result of which the used clips drop to the ground and because of their relatively negligible value, can be left on the ground or otherwise discarded. In removing the clips it will be convenient to pull apart the two layers of clothing which are over the line which will bend the ends of the clips outwardly or as an alternative a finger or thumb nail may be forced under one of the clip ends to bend it away from the other end and thus release the clothing and permit removal of the clip. When the clips on magazine 20 have been used up, the-magazine can be re-loaded or replaced by another magazine, it being appreciated that the dove-tail joint 17 readily permits the block 16 to be separated from the shank 10.

Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A clothes clipping device as described comprising in combination an elongated body having a longitudinal bore, a plunger in said bore having a hook at its lower end beyond the end of said body, a magazine for a plurality of U-shaped clips on one side of said body including a plurality of longitudinally extending guide wires, the lower end of one of said wires terminating above said hook, means for supporting clips in said magazine and releasing clips to drop on said hook, and manually actuatable means to compress said clips on said hook onto an article of clothing on and around a clothes line.

2. Structure according to claim 1 wherein said last means includes a pair of pivoted plates depending from the lower end of said body on opposite sides of said hook.

3. Structure according to claim 2 wherein said plates are spring biased outwardly.

4.
