CARRYING CASES Filed Jan. 9, 1953 FIG. I
Figs. 2
INVENTOR FIG. 3 W
ATTORNEYS 2,712,336 Patented July 5, 1955 CARRYING CASES Robert C. Casselman, Aubumdale, Polaroid Corporation, Cambridge, of Delaware Application January 9, 1953, Serial No. 330,459 11 Claims. (Cl. 150-52) Mass., assignor to Mass., a corporation This invention relates to carrying cases and more particularly to cases for carrying cameras and/or photographic accessories such as film, flash guns, flash bulbs, exposure meters and the like.
An object of the invention shoulder of the wearer.
Other objects of the invention will in and will in part appear hereinafter.
The invention accordingly comprises an article of part be obvious which will be indicated in the claims.
For a fuller understanding of the nature of the invention, reference should be had to ing detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is an end view of the carrying case of the inention showing the carrying strap arranged for hand carriage;
Fig. 2 is a front view of the carrying case shown in Fig. 1 but showing the strap arranged for shoulder carriage;
Fig. 3 is a plan view vention; and
Fig. 4 is a front view of a modification of the carrying case of the invention.
In the drawing, wherein like reference numerals deof the carrying strap of the in- A pair of guide example of metal, are fixedly secured to the base substantially at the extremity thereof adjacent front wall 12 and in positions such that onelguide member 36 is in alignment with one of guide members 34 while the other of guide members 36 is in alignment with the other of guide members 34.
A third pair of guide members 38, which may be of leather or a suitable resilient plastic material, are sethereof-is fixedly secured to front stitching 43 or other permanent fastening means such as rivets, staples and The other end of each guide member 38 is the front wall 12 by such means as snap fasteners 42.
The endless carrying strap of the invention, which may bly associated therewith by means of the guide members 34, 36 and 38. Specifically, elongated section 46 is attached to the carrying case by means of the guide The carrying strap is slidable in the fixed guide mem- 34 and 36, the sections 46 and 48 of the strap being sufliciently long as to encompass the front, bottom in Fig. 1,
By detaching from the front end of each of guide members 38, as by disengaging 2 permits the case to be worn suspended from a shoulder handbag of this embodiment of the invention, the strap is Fig. 1.
ever, in order to convert the handbag to shoulder-carrying use, one end of each detachable strap guide 38 (not shown in Fig. 4) is disengaged from rear wall 14 and the strap slidably moved, through the fixed guide members 36 on the base and fixed guide members 34 on the front wall 12, by exerting a pulling force on grip portion 56, so that elongated sections 46 and 43 extend only under the base 20 and up the front wall 12 of the carrying case to a position well beyond the top wall or cover 22. in this embodiment, since section 59 of the strap, rather than section 52, extends between the pair of fixed metal guide members 36 on the base of the carrying case, keeper member 58 is preferably detachably secured to grip portion 56 rather than to grip portion 54.
In the just-described embodiment of the invention, it will be appreciated that whether the handbag is handor shoulder-carried, the elongated strap sections 46 and 58 extending up the front wall 12 would substantially prevent accidental opening of the flap 24 of the bag.
While strap guide members 34 and 36 have been described as being made, for example, of leather and metal, respectively, it should be understood that guides 34 could be formed from metal and guides 36 from leather, or both guides 34 and 36 could be leather or metal, or even a suitable plastic material.
It should further be understood that the keeper member 58, which may be formed from plastic materials or rubber rather than leather, may, if desired, be detached from the grip portion to which it is secured when the carrying case is worn suspended from a shoulder of a wearer.
Since certain changes may be made in the above article of manufacture and different embodiments of the invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the foregoing description or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
