COMBINATION ICE-CHEST AND RESERVOIR.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 271,100, dated 'January 23, 1883. Application filed May 31, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES DOMINIC Mo- RIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Woodland, county of Yolo, and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combination Ice-Chest and lteser' voir, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 represents in perspective my improved refrigerator; Fig. 2, a vertical section of the same; Fig.3, a section of the ice-box and reservoir for the water to be cooled, showing the constantly-supplying water-pipes in connection with said reservoir; Fig. 4,'a top view, the cover being removed; Fig. 5, a vertical section of the ice-box, waterreservoir, and non-conducting inclosing-case; and Fig. 6, a horizontal section of the same.
My invention relates to improvements in the.
combination ice-chestand water-Suppl yin g reservoir for refrigerators, in which the water-reservoir has no communication with the ice-chest.
The specific matter of my improvement consists in the combination of the ice-chest provided with a trapped waste-pipe, with a surrounding reservoir for water, having an outside top inlet-opening, an inside overflow-opening communicating with the ice-chest at its top, and a supply-cock, and a case inclosing said reservoir, having separate receptacles for bottles and other articles to be kept cool. In this combination, while the ice-chest has communication with the water-reservoir, it is not to supply the reservoir from the melting ice, but to provide an overflow from the reservoir into the ice-chest.
My machine is constructed by first making an ice box or chest of suitable size with an escape or waste pipe, with a trap at the bottom to prevent the warm air from getting to the ice, so that all water or drippings from the dissolving ice will pass off at the bottom of the machine without coming in contact or mixing with any of the articles to be cooled, surrounded by a space of sufficient size to form a reservoir or holding-vessel to hold water or other liquids for drinking purposes, which, by reason of the ice in the chest or box, will be cooled to the same'degree of ice-water without being changed or deteriorated by coming in direct contact and mixing with the ice, which reservoir is surrounded on the sides and bottom by a suitable space to allow spaces or separate apartments with spaces around each one, in which bottles or liquids desired to be cooled may be placed, and the spaces left around the-places to be used as receptacles for food and liquids are to be filled with charcoal or other suitable substances of a cooling nature, in order to assist in retaining the cooling qualities of the ice and prevent its rapid dissolution or evaporation, the whole to be incased with zinc or other suitable substance. It can then be placed in a suitable chest or cupboard, with shelves on each side and underneath, which can be used to hold such articles as are desired to be kept cool, thus making in a neat and compact manner an app aratus for cooling water and other liquids to be drank, with a pantry or cupboard in which victuals or articles of food can be kept cool. It will be seen that anyoverflow from the reservoir will pass into the receiver A and pass out of the waste-pipe D.
My invention can also be attached to a hydrant, water-pipe, or faucet, so that by usinga small quantity of ice a perpetual supply of water can be had at little or no expense; the ice, not coming in contact with the water passing through the reservoir,will last and be utilized with little or no evaporation of the same.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim 'as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
