G. G. MoOI-IESNEY.
HAND SAW.
No. 270,822. Patented Jan. 16,1883.
U ITED STATES PATENT OFFICEQ GEORGE G. MOOHESNEY, MIDDLETOWN, NEW YORK, ASS IGNOR TO THE WHEELER, MADDEN & CLEMSON MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
' HAN DSAW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 270,822, dated January 16, 1883.
' Application filed August 2, 1882. (No model.) A
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE G. McOHEsNEY, of Middletown, in the county of Orange and 1 State of New York, haveinvented certain new 5 and useful Improvements in Handsaws; and I do-hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
IO My invention relates to handsaws designed especially for butchers use, the object being to provide a saw with devices of the improved construction, hereinafter described, whereby the saw-blade may be readily removed.
The invention consists in the parts and combinations of parts hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure l is a side view of a saw constructed in accordance with my invention, and Figs.'2 and 3 are detached views of the fastening devices.
A represents the bow or frame of the saw, provided with a forward arm, B, and a rear arm, 0. The arm B is provided with a vertical slit, 1), and a transverse pin, 1), while the rear arm, 0, receives the handle D, which is of the usual form, and secured by screws d or in any other suitable manner. The lower end of the arm 0 is enlarged and provided with a 0 horizontal perforation, c, to form a bearing r for the fastening-bolt E. The end 0 of the arm is also provided with a central slit, 0 to receive the saw-blade F, as will be further explained hereinafter. The forward end of the saw-blade F is provided with an inclined or diagonal slot, f, which is adapted to engage the transverse pin 12 of the saw-frame. The rear end of the bladeis provided with a vertical slot, f, to engage the fastening-bolt, as
' 40 will be further explained. The bolt E is provided centrally with a longitudinal slit, c, within which is arranged a transverse pin, 6. The rear end of the bolt is screw-threaded, and receives a thumb-nut, G.
5 The saw-blade is secured in position in the following manner: The inclined slot fof the blade is engaged with the pin 1), and it will be apparent that, owing to the inclination of the slotf, the forward end of the saw will be securely held when the rear end is secured. The 0 rear end of the blade enters the slit of the end 0 of the frame and of the bolt E, and the slot f engages the pin 6 of the bolt. The thumb-nut G is then turned to tighten the blade and securely retain it in place. The latter maybe readily removed by unscrewing the nut G. a
The blade, as above described, can be employed with ordinary frames, as the bottoms of the slots in the blade are rounded to serve the purpose of the usual perforations in ordinary blades. 7
I do not limit myself to the precise construction shown and described, but reserve to myself the right to make all such slight altera- 6 tions in the details of construction as may properly fall within the scope of my invention. Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new,'and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is Y .70
The combination, with a saw-frame having slitted arms, of a saw-blade having its front and rear end inserted within the slits in the arms of the frame, said blade being constructed with open slots near its opposite ends, a pin 5 inserted through the forward arm and engaging within the open slot in the blade, a slotted bolt inserted in a circular bearing in the rear arm, said bolt being provided with a trans verse pin that engages in the slot in the rear end of the blade, and a nut, G, for securing the parts against displacement, substantially as set forth.-
In testimony whereofI havesigned thisspecification in the presence of two subscribing wit- 8 5 nesses.
GEORGE G. MOOHESNEY.
