PETER G. THOMSON, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
TOY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 270,511, dated January 9, 1883.
I Application filed November 27,1882. (ModeL) 5 lowing is a specification.
My invention relates to a toy or puzzle for the amusement and instruction of children.
I provide a board or card, Figure 1, having pictures of objects whose written names posr o sess identical initial or terminal letters, or both.
This card has a central orifice, A, and imprinted concentric thereupon the initial or terminal letters, as the case may be,which the written names of thepictured objects have in 15 common, and in line with these a window, B.
Another card or board, Fig. 2, has projecting vertically from its face a post or stud, O, which fits and occupies the hole A and constitutes a pivot about which said board, Fig. 2,
Said card has imprinted upon it concentric with said stud, and at equal radial distance as the initial letters on the card first mentioned, a ring-0f letters, which preferably includes all the vowels and the most frequent- By turning the under card about said pivot diflerent letters are brought in succession into view at the window and combine with the permanent letters on the upper card to spell one or other of the ob- 3 jects pictured on the upper card.
Fig. 3 represents the toy with one of such words thus presented.
Figs. 4 to 8, inclusive, illustrate a few of the numerous possible changes of pictured subjects and initial letters on as many separate upper cards capable of use with the under card aforesaid.
I claim as new and of my invention-- The toy consisting of a card in which letters are disposed in a ring or circle concentric with a stud or post that projects vertically from the card-face, in combination with another card having a central orifice which receives said stud, and having pictured objects whose written names have identical initial or terminal letters, which letters are imprinted on the cardface at 'the'saine radial distance from the orifice as the letters on the other card are from the central stud, and having in line with such initials a window, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
PETER G. THOMSON.
