4 Claims. (Cl. 40-125) This invention relates to an advertising display device and has for its object the provision of a display card holder which is adapted to be mounted on a cash register or other device.

A further object is to provide a display device which, when not in use, can be folded into a compact form which enables it to be easily handled, carried or packed for mailing.

A further object is to provide a display device which may also be used, when mounted in position on a cash register or other device, as a container for holding various objects for sale or for advertising purposes.

A still further object of the invention resides in a novel construction which permits of making the device of rela tively light and inexpensive material which is easy and, therefore, not costly to manufacture.

In the present embodiment of the invention, I have illustrated a display device which is particularly adapted for use on a cash register and the like, but it is to be understood that the principles of the invention may be embodied in devices for other purposes.

Referring to the accompanying drawing wherein is illustrated one embodiment of the invention:

Fig. 3 is a top plan view thereof.

Fig. 4 is a view similar to that of Fig. 2 but enlarged to show the display device in greater detail.

Fig. 5 is an enlarged view of the display device partly perspective and partly in section.

In the drawing the letter A represents the cash register and B represents the display device. The numeral indicates the upper portion of the cash register on which the display device B is here shown as being mounted. The display device B consists of a front portion 12 and a back portion 14, both these portions being illustrated as rectangular in shape although any desired shape may be used within the scope of the invention. 22 and 24 and to these portions is attached to gluing, stapling or other suitable means, the wall 12. The entire display device may be formed of paper, cardboard, plastic or other suitable material. Also, although the wall 14 and inwardly foldable walls 16 is here illustrated as integral, it is within the scope of the invention to make the wall 14 separate from the inwardly foldable walls in the manner of the wall 12. 12 and 14 may be made rigid while the inwardly foldable walls remain flexible. Provided in each of the

18 and 20 are slots 26. Each wall has two slots which extend from the bottom edges of the wall and are inclined toward each other. The slots are formed of a narrow slit which opens into a round opening. A rubber band C or other similar elastic device, such as a spring, is adapted to be inserted into these slots so that, when inserted, the rubber band acts to collapse the bellows. The rubber band, thereby acts as a spring member to bias the two

12 and 14 toward each other. The wall 12 is provided with a flange 28 and the wall 14 is similarly provided with a flange 30. These two flanges form a channel or guide member which acts to keep the display device on the cash register while they are held against the cash register by the spring action of the rubber band biased bellows 16. Indicia, pictures, advertising, etc. may be placed on either the front wall 12, the rear wall 14 or on both. Furthermore, when the device is mounted on the top of the cash register it forms a container, the bottom of which comprises the top of the cash register. This container may be used to hold additional advertising media such as cards, give-aways, matches, etc., or it may be used to hold articles of purchase convenient to the sales-clerk such as tooth-paste tubes, etc.

Although my invention has been described in considerable detail, such description is intended as being illustrative rather than limiting, since the invention may be variously embodied, and the scope of the invention is to be determined as claimed.

I claim as my invention:

1. A display device which is for use upon the upper portion of a cash register and which comprises a pair of parallel walls, a plurality of inwardly foldable side walls, each said side walls joining one end of one parallel wall to one end of said other wall, each inwardly foldable side walls having a pair of spaced slots intermediate its ends, and an elastic band located in said slots whereby said inwardly foldable side walls will tend to collapse.

2. The invention of claim 1 wherein said parallel walls are deeper than said joining foldable side walls in order to grip a mounting member.

3. In combination with a cash register, a display device located on said cash register, said display device comprising two parallel walls which are adapted to carry advertising matter, a plurality of inwardly foldable walls, each inwardly foldable walls joining one end of one wall to one end of said parallel wall, means to collapse said inwardly foldable walls, each of said walls provided with an extension, and said extension gripping the top portion of said cash register under the force of said spring-like member.

4. The invention of claim 3 wherein each of said inwardly foldable walls has a pair of spaced slots therein, said slots being located to each side of the center of the inwardly foldable walls, and said means consisting of an elastic band located within said slots.
