Description

(No Model.)
J. ENNIS.
TIDE WATER SWIMMING BATH.
No.270,293. PatentdJan..9,1883.
UNITED STATES I PATENT 7 OFFICE.
JO HN ENNIS, OF STAMFORD, CONNECTICUT.
TIDE-.WATER SWIMMING-BATH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 270,293, dated. January 9, 1883,
Application filed July 3, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom z'fmay concern Be it known that I, JOHN ENNIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stamford, in the county 0t Fairfield and State of Connecticut, 5 have invented a new and useful Tide-Water Swimming-Bath, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an apparatus, in conjunction with tide-water, for the purpose of IO supplying, changing, and regulating the depth of water required for a swimming-bath. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a sectional view of the apparatus; 15 Fig. 2, a ground plan, and Fig. 3 a detailed viewin perspective of the regulating-cham her.
A is the regulating-chain ber. B is the bathing-tank; C, the supply and discharge pipe, and D the valves, which run in perpendicular 2o grooves in the regulating-chamber, connecting therewith the supply and discharge pipe C and the bathing-tank B.
The following is the manner in which the apparatus is to be operated: In order to supply 2 5 and retain the desired depth of water in the" bathing-tank B at high tide, draw up the valves D in the regulating-chamber A, the bottom of which is placed at the required depth below the high-tide water mark or line, thereby causing the waterto flow through the supply and discharge pipe C into the bathing-tank B. The figures in the regulating-chamber will indicate when the desired depth of water is in tank B. Then press down the valves, thereby causing thetwater to remain stationary at the desired depth in the bathing-tank B. In order to discharge the water at low tide, draw up the valves, which will allow the water to run off.
Therefore What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- In a tide-water bathing apparatus, the bathing-tank B and regnlatingchamber A, combined with the supply and discharge pipe C and valves D, the whole constructed and operating substantially as set forth; i
. JOHN ENNIS.
