Description
Feb 1955 v. o. ROBERTS CATAMENIAL PAD PROTECTOR Filed May 4, 1954 l l 1 llllllrlllllll Iii/MENTOR WELVA 0. Momma T m i,
United States Patent CATAMENIAL PAD PROTECTOR Velva 0. Roberts, San Francisco, Calif.
Application May 4, 1954, Serial No. 427,643
2 Claims. (Cl. 128-286) The present invention relates to a new and improved article of manufacture comprising a catamenial or sanitary pad protector, wherein an ovate envelope of flexible impervious material is formed with a central opening on one side thereof adapted to enclose the labia majora and expose and hold in contact therewith a contained absorbent pad, whereby menstrual moisture is prevented from spreading to the person or adjacent apparel, to preserve a hygienic or sanitary condition, said envelope also being provided with end openings for the extension therethrough of supporting tabs on opposite ends of said pad.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved article of manufacture comprising a catamenial or sanitary pad protector having improved means adapted to completely enclose said pad and the labia majora to prevent spreading of menstrual moisture.
Another object is to provide a new and improved article of manufacture of the character set forth having improved means adapted to permit extension of supporting tabs on opposite ends of a sanitary pad whereby said protector adequately may be retained in operative position on said pad.
A further object is to provide a new and improved device of the type described having a greatly simplified and economically produced and readily operated construction and a maximum efficiency.
The improvement comprises the device disclosed in the drawings forming a part of the present application, in whic Figure 1 is a top plan view of the device flatly ex tended;
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the device curved ap proximately to the curvature of the anatomy as when applied; and
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1, in either direction.
Referring to the drawings:
The numeral 2 is used to indicate in general a preferably ovate envelope of flexible impewious material having a central opening 4 in the upper side thereof adapted to enclose the labia majora, not shown, and exposed thereto and in contact therewith through said opening 4, a suitable absorbent catamenial or sanitary pad,
indicated in heavy broken lines 6. To hold the envelope 2 in operative position, the same also has end openings 8, of lesser width than that of the pad 6, to permit the 2,700,974 Patented Feb. 1, 1955 extension through said openings 8 of end tabs 10, with which such pads are usually provided for securing the same to a belt or other suitable supporting means, not shown.
In order to readily permit a comfortable and convenient fullness and conformation of the protector or envelope 2 to the anatomy, when worn, said envelope 2 is provided across the under surface thereof with two or more box plaits 12, by means of which said under surface readily may be expanded to comfortably con form to the anatomy.
In operation, a catamenial or other sanitary absorbent pad 6 is placed within the envelope 2 with the end tabs thereof extended through the end openings 8 to permit said tabs to be properly secured to a belt or the like, not shown. The envelope 2, enclosing the pad 6, is then positioned upon the anatomy with the central opening 4 enclosing the labia majora and holding the enclosed pad 6 in contact therewith.
By means of this arrangement, menstrual moisture immediately is absorbed by the pad 6 and retained within the impervious envelope 2 and such moisture is thereby prevented from spreading to the anatomy and ad jacent apparel.
The provision of the box plaits 12 provides a means whereby the lower or outer surface of the envelope 2 readily may conform to the greater arc of the under side of the envelope 2, when worn, and thereby prevent a multitude or multiple wrinkles in the top or lesser are of the envelope, which wrinkles might tend to irritate and chafe.
Also, the provision of the end openings 8 of lesser width than the pad width provides a means for preventing longitudinal movement or displacement of the envelope on the pad 6 or extensions 10.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A catamenial pad protector comprising an ovate envelope of flexible impervious material adapted to contain an absorbent pad, and having a central opening in the upper surface thereof adapted to enclose the labia majora and expose a contained absorbent pad thereto, and transverse plaits arranged across the: bottom of said envelope and adapted to permit longitudinal expansion of said lower surface.
2. A catamenial pad protector comprising an ovate envelope of flexible impervious material and adapted to contain an absorbent pad having end tabs, said envelope having a central opening formed in the upper surface thereof adapted to enclose the labia majora and expose a pad in said envelope thereto, said envelope also having transverse plaits formed around the bottom surface thereof adapted to permit longitudinal expansion of said lower surface, said envelope also having end openings adapted to engage end tabs on a contained pad and prevent longitudinal displacement of said envelope on said pad.
